Replacement Tire Problems on 3.8

I recently had my tire changed to the Michelins. My car no longer rides smooth almost as though a tire is off balance or there is a flat spot. The first time I brought it back to the dealer they found a tire off balance. This helped but still had the vibrations. The second time they rebalanced all the tires, No change. Its back now for the third time and now they are going to get them road forced balanced and well see how that turns out. The dealer test drove my car and agreed that something is wrong. If not I'm going to have to get with Hyundai of America to get it fixed. Three times to the dealer for the same problem is unacceptable to me especially since I brought the car to them fine. I asked not to have the tires changed but they claimed it wasn't an option. Anyone else having problems with theses tires?

your dealer lied....it is optional.

tell them to take a set of the old ones off another car on the lot and see if it stops the vibration.

According to my conversation with Hyundai Customer Care, you have 3 years to exercise your option. I believe you had an option since you asked them NOT to change your tires.

I just had my OEM tires changed to the Michelin Primacy MXX4 that Hyundai are using to replace the original Hankook's. I am also experiencing odd vibrations, almost like a tire balance problem, but at a number of different speeds. These are the same type of tires that I had from new on my 2012 Genesis and I had no such problems with those. I haven't had time to go back to the dealer yet, but will be getting it checked out soon.

my hankook equipped awd 3.8l also occasionally displays what i would describe as short/sharp suspension motions when driving at highway speeds on certain surfaces. maybe some more suspension tweaking is in order??

We have the Michelins and AWD and so far so good, however we only have ~700 miles so we'll keep our fingers crossed I also have them on my Accord V6 coupe and had them on my Passat 2.0T and they were great - probably the quietest tires we've owned with great wear resistance.

Interesting. I have no idea what's happening with my car and I'm having a helluva time trying to get any info from anyone.

What's the production date of your car and what other options are on it?

Anyone else having any problem with the new tires or any other unexplained vibration, especially with AWD V6s? TIA to all.

PS: I've never had any problem with ANY Michelin tires in the past and am not convinced that it's a tire problem even now.

I am experiencing similar problems with the vibration. It was very noticeable with the Hankooks and got worse every time the car was parked overnight.
The Michelins improved the vibration significantly but did not eliminate it.The flatspotting from overnight parking disappeared. I feel it every time I drive the car though but it is very subtle. I tought myself to live with it since the nearest dealer to me is a bit out of the way and my work schedule does not allow me to keep dropping it there (especially without a loaner).
I have a 3.8 HTRAC, build date 05/2014.

I have a loaner, but I'm still not happy that nobody seems to know anything. PS: My build date is 04/21/2014.

I’ve had the new tires installed for about 3 weeks now Chuck and like I said in a prior post I thought the Hankooks to be a little better ride and a little bit quieter. I emphasize “a little bit”. I think overall they are fine tires. I think if you’re getting such pronounced symptoms unless you have faulty tires or they weren’t forced balanced I would look elsewhere.

Some pure speculation here from experience. You probably already know that auto wheels are never perfectly balanced. One of the things I noticed immediately is that Hyundai did an excellent job of marking the "lightest" side of the wheel with a circle in the finish and aligning that with the similar round mark on the Hankook tires (which shows the heavy point in the tire). This helps the imperfections balance each other out and minimizes the amount of tire weights that have to be added to finish the balance. If the new tires were not aligned when installed, the wheel/tires may be "balanced", but they really still have 3 points of weight imbalance that "fight" each other. This can lead to really odd vibration at several speeds, rather than one really bad vibration at one particular speed. If this was overlooked, it could slow down the Hyundai guys that are investigating. The symptoms sometimes mimic an out-of-round tire or wheel, either of which could also be contributing to the problem.

All the other major factors sound like they are being investigated for you already. Don't know if this info will help at all, but wanted to pass it along.

It's a February build; we have the signature and tech package.
