If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Replacement Tire Problems on 3.8

My car has now been at the dealer for 26 days. According to the staff at my dealer, the Hyundai rep and the tech (who I trust) drove my car yesterday and both agreed that the Michelins are the cause of the vibration and are talking to Hyundai Warranty people for where to go from here. They still think that the AWD cars are just a bit too heavy for the tires that have been used on these models. The clock keeps ticking and Hyundai Corporate moves glacially. I'm a bit dubious about laying the blame at Michelin's door, but we'll see.

Shoot an email to Dave Zuchowksi (dzuchowski@hmausa.com). He is the North American CEO of Hyundai. Detail your issue. Explain your car has been in the shop for almost a month regarding tire issues. Ask him for help.

I did about another issue and got a car payment returned to me AND the issue got resolved quickly. ;)

Will do very soon if resolution continues to elude. Thanx for the address.

I wrote him a letter and have gotten two responses from already. It looks like this was the way to go. Thanx, wasnt, for the idea. :)

No problem!

Being a repeat Genny buyer helps you out. I found Dave to be a great guy that really wants to help the brand and his customers. I was really impressed.

Just for a reference I have the 3.8 AWD Ultimate with the new Michelins (replaced under recall) and they are perfectly balanced. Thus my thought is either you have a bad tire (or multiple bad tires) or the dealer is not very skllled with a Hunter Road force balance. Mine rides smoother with the Michelins than it did with the Hankooks.

That's good news! :)

Kudos to Hyundai. I wrote to Dave Zuchowski and had two responses and a phone call inside of two hours. My confidence is being restored. :)

Just got my car back from the dealer. When they did the road force balance they found two bad tires. They replaced both and the car still had the vibrations. They ended up swapping my wheels with a car in the lot that still had the hankooks. While I am happy this solved the problem, I am still dissapointed that I had this trouble with the replacment tires. Well have to see what happens. My hope is Hyundai replaces the tires with a differnet model or brand.

The dealer went beyond the call of duty getting you new tires and wheels. Hyundai better take care of the, is suspect quality problems due to special production run. Or, I suspect Hyundai has a defective run of bad casting wheels? Not bent, but something odd or defective.

Have you asked your dealer to put a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport(Max Performance Summer tires on to see if the issue goes away? Might be an option.

Thanx. I like that idea - it may become an option but it isn't yet. The current plan is to install another set of the same tires on Monday and for me to try it out.

So far, Hyundai has been very specific as to what the installed tire should be, but that may change. I heard they were considering giving me a voucher but I think they want to try this other set first. Corporate is pulling the strings now and options may change. We'll see. At least now I have full confidence that the issue is getting sufficient attention.

If the second set not vibration free... Suggest you have someone check the wheels. Not for being bent, but defective castings.

The wheels have already been "excused" because the vibration goes away after a couple of miles. They are pretty convinced that it's just an application problem with the tires - meaning that the car is just a bit on the heavy side for the range of the tire and that fact seems to encourage flatspotting. I've been a bit uncomfortable with the diagnosis, but can't really say it's wrong. However, now that Corporate is officially involved I'm confident that, whatever the cause, it will be fixed to my satisfaction.

I am beyond impressed with the speed of Corporate's reaction. I used to work for IBM and it was famous for the complete, fast responses to customer complaints, but HMA has them beat by a mile, at least in this particular case.

I just don’t understand this Chuck. Yours isn’t the only Genesis to have these tires on. Like I said mine have been on for a while now and absolutely no problems. The configuration of our cars are the same as far as I can tell. So this statement is troubling. Is this the only 3.8 AWD they’ve done ?

No, they say there have been others. Now that you mention it, I wonder how those cases were resolved?

No one here is picking on Hyundai... And the reports I have responded to are not reported related to flat spots. Continual. As I also said, I suspect my 5.0 Ultimates real wheels are out of spec. The Road Force machine says so clearly.. Not the tires. Anyway, there are more and more reports coming out with vibration problems outside of the Hankooks. We know the flat spots are a issue.. There might be a extended problem for some.

I just got off the phone with my local Hyundai warranty administrator. She said that if I bring my Genesis Ultimate 3.8L in for a free oil change, they will have no choice but to perform the taillight, cowl, and tire replacement procedures. I wonder if some lawyer convinced Hyundai that once they cast doubt on the Hankooks, they would be liable for any unrelated tire problems that occur. At any rate, I will be performing my own oil changes until I am sure the cowl and tire procedures don't create more problems than they fix.

I just had my oil change last week. They performed the cowl replacement but per my request did not change out the tires.

Forcing replacing the tires does not seem to be Hyundai requirement. My letter stated the migration was available and optional (my words), not required. What does your letter say? I think the WA info gal or dealer is full of Shft. And I had the cowl, tail light and BO for the seat rail cover done, no fussing about me not wanting the tires changed just yet.
