  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is my 2nd Genesis...2015 sedan 3.8....recently had the tire swap done with new Michelins. 3 days after swap I got a severe shake (wobble) while doing 65 on interstate. Took car back to dealer and they made sure all tires were properly torqued but could find nothing wrong. Yesterday it did it again(after 4 weeks) at 40 mph after filling my tank and leaving gas station. Drove about 1/4 mile and pulled over and checked all tires visually as best I could and saw nothing out of ordinary. It actually felt like all tires were wobbling! I searched forum for anything like this but couldn't find similar condition. One thread mentioned anti-lock sensor possibly bad and kick in intermittently. The fact that it just stops after stopping car and doesn't do anything after I start driving again is puzzling. Almost like something is kicking in or out and causing this condition. Drive shaft/rear end? I love the car but this one has me and my dealer puzzled. Taking it in for a recall in a week and they will try to locate cause again. ???????

Is your car AWD?

Yes...AWD. When I experienced this condition 2x I popped into neutral and shaking continued...so I ruled out engine causing problem.

I'm sure this is gonna make some sense when they find out the cause, but in the meantime it's a real head-scratcher! It's starting to look like the tire swap may have been done for the wrong reason and didn't solve anything.

Yes...I agree. I was OK with The Hankook tires...however they had 18000 on them so I welcomed the Michelins which up to now seem like a great tire, but not sure if they are any better than the Hankooks. I'm now reading up on fuel sloshing in the tank, which can cause severe vibration if baffles are faulty. Sounds crazy...but what the....

I'd like to think so..however the dealer says everything tires, wheels, balancing, rotors, etc. are all ok. They can't find the cause of the intermittent shaking. ????

I had almost 23000 on mine, but I had the same problem before and after the change since new. Not as severe as yours, though.

Its got to be something in the suspension. I had the swap at 1500 miles and the michelins vibrate much more than Hankooks, but for a shorter period of time. Once warmed up they are fine but the car does not ride as smooth now that it did before. I feel every little bump, seam and rough patch and I run them at 34psi. The car is not as pleasurable to drive now compared to Hankooks. I wish I had never swapped tires and I'm a huge Michelin fan and they have great tires so there is something in the design of car/suspension that is doing this.

I'm not convinced it's in the actual tire because the car rides like a dream 99% of the time. It's only when this crazy condition occurs that the car shakes/wobbles like I was driving over rumble strips!

Thanks for all of your input!

Is it like the feeling you get when the Lane Keep Assist kicks in?

Ckon (Chuck)...I did respond to your question on post #3. Yes it is AWD.Sorry you missed it.

Canuck-Ottawa ...I don't have LANE ASSIST so I'm not sure what it feels like. This is a severe intermittent problem. The car shakes severely and feels like the tires are all loose and ready to fall off ( even though they are not). On my previous post I mentioned it feels like I was driving on rumble strips. Could it have something to do with AWD licking in and out?...I don't know but it's not the new Michelins because it would be doing it all the time. Hopefully the dealer can find something next week when it's back in the shop. When they do a test ride it always performs beautifully. It feels like it could be coming more from the rear of the car.

Thanx, Rinker, I saw your response. I was asking for clarification from "Comp1" :) (My car goes back in tomorrow and I'm gonna be mentioning this thread.)

I am starting to think that the Michelin Tires that are being used for this 'tire swap' are not the AAA grade that we expect from Monsieur Michelin. These tires were the OEM fitment on my 2012 Genesis (albeit RWD & different size) and I never had any vibration problems. Since changing the original Hankooks to Michelin I have a highway speed vibration that two wheel balances have failed to cure. I also still have the low-speed vibration after the car sits for a few hours, although this goes away after 10 minutes driving. Certainly no better than the Hankooks in this regard. I'm very disappointed with this change.
