Been here awhile...
Is the 27 mm socket required for the 3.8L or the 5.0L (mine) or what?
I think I take a 24 mm. - not sure.
Haven't done the job yet - looks like a lot of fun.
24mm for the V8 G2.

My recollection from 6 years ago when I purchased a 27mm socket for my V6 Genesis oil filter changes, is that the size that fits may depend on whether it is a 4-point, 6-point, or 12-point socket.24mm for the V8 G2.

When I say it takes a 24mm for the G2 V8, why in the world are you coming back with sizes for the G1 V6? Talk about stirring up confusion.
When it comes to oil filters and the Genesis, Hyundai is mostly to blame for that. They started out in 2009 using the same exact oil filter for V6 and V8, but then switched to new filter for the V8 only retroactively, and it has been a state of confusion ever since.Confusion is the name of the game on this forum.
x-post from another thread, but has anyone successfully removed the filter from the top on the V6?
2015 v6
Also, on my last oil change, i had originally planned to change the oil filter without removing the front fairing, but i couldn't get the filter housing moving without a 27mm socket and all mine are deep sockets so i put a 27mm oil filter socket on my wish list.

That and a mighty vac should allow me to do the changes without dropping either of the fairings. A Chinese food takeout container (black plastic) fit perfectly to catch the oil from the housing.
17 mm.Can somebody confirm the oil drain plug takes a 17mm size socket? V6 3.8L engine
The 2009-2011 V6 has the oil filter in that location. When they switched from EFI to GDI in 2012, they moved the oil filter to the bottom of the engine.2009 V6 sedan, I found my oil filter on top of the engine, right at the rear of the intake manifold. 27mm hex removed the housing cap.
Why isn't this noted anywhere in this thread? Was it only 2009 that did this?
This section of the forum is actually for 2015+ Genesis (2G). Even though all oil filters starting at 2012 are at the bottom of the engine, there is a difference between 2012-2014 (1G) and 2015+ (2G).
ntx_v8, Thank you for the detailed DIY. After looking at my 2015 V6, I am going to the first oil change this weekend at bout 1,000 miles. Using Mobile one 5w-30 EP and Mityvac 7300 PneumatiVac Air-Operated Fluid Evacuator (Thanks, rec by Mark 888).
Just one question: about how much oil came out of the oil filter housing (OFH)? b/c i am doing this from the top as i was able to fit a 4 " high tuberware under OFH which am hoping is enough to catch the old oil
TIA.
