  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

So I was driving through the car dealerships yesterday and pulled into a used car lot and decide to do a bit of polishing, busted out a micro-fiber and some Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer when the lot owner drives up. He's okay with me parked there, goes into the garage and reappears 5 minutes later. He goes all the way around the car looking at the front and rear badges (it's rebadged) and asks me if it's a Maserati. I thought he was joking but he says he really wasn't sure what it was. I was still incredulous....

Only have had mine for a month. Have only had 2 situations come up when I had people guess on separate occasions. They both guessed Chrysler at first. I'll keep making people guess to see if ANYONE gets it right.

When the sudden urge to polish hits, you pick a car dealership lot? I guess any port in a storm, but seems like a strange place to do auto detailing when the idea pops up

Agreed - and a used car dealer thinking a Genesis is a Maserati doesn't say much about used car dealers - I can imagine him in a few years giving the hard sell to a clueless buyer: "Let me show you this beautiful Maserati that I can give you a killer deal on!". Lol...

Well the dealerships were closed it being a Sunday...

I've had my car less than 24 hours, and I've already had one discussion with an admirer, two people checking it out hard when they didn't see me looking, and several people turn their heads (although that may be from my driving style). They're still very rare here.

I met up with a friend for wings after work today who hadn't seen the car yet. When we were leaving, I pointed out the 2015 Casablanca White Genesis to him in the lot and he said "damn dude, that looks like something LeBron James would drive." Probably the funniest comment I've had so far.

He just called your car a Buick.

The gentlemen who work at the car wash where I regularly take my car to get hand-washed commented on my car today. One guy was like, "Man the new wheels really do give it a whole new look!"

So I guess I chose alright with the wheels!

I was picking up my semitruck from the shop yesterday and the mechanic smoking a cig outside came up to me and asked how in the hell I was able to afford a Bentley lol. I told him it's a hyundai he said "that's a hyundai?!!". I had a good laugh on the way home.

Had a 2015 Genesis 3.8 pull up behind me then moved over and pulled along side me then dropped back again to check out the rear again. Next red light he rolled down his window and asked me what kind of Genesis was it. I said a 2015 just like yours.

Light change and he pulled out in front of me and I noticed he had the Flying H on his car. Mine is naked on the rear with the exception of the Genesis wing. :D

Smfh I don't know if I should laugh or cry at that guys lack of attention to detail

My two best buddies both have black Audi S5s; one has a FI V6 Vert and the other has a V8 coup-ay. In any case, every month a bunch of Audi guys meet at Rudy's in Austin for lunch, and since I happened to be in Austin today, I crashed their Audi party. I got some good-natured ribbing about Genesis stealing the Audi grille, but I had more than one person tell me how nice the Genesis is. This wasn't the typical backhanded Hyundai compliment of "Not bad for a Hyundai", but a genuine "Wow, that car is gorgeous."

Next time you are in Austin, maybe we can get together for lunch....

If you are up for it, I'll join y'all. I'm always up for Rudy's, and I actually used to attend the Audi lunches back in the early to mid 2000's when I had my TT Roadster and my A8L. Back then it was a lot of old school guys, with Ur-quattros, the original S4 (based on the Audi 100), and a few A4's. And a kid that attended with his dad's BMW M5 although he had an Audi S4 2.7T himself.

Good days, good guys, and good BBQ.

PM me if anyone in Austin would ever like to get together.
