This right there made me walk away from two Hyundai dealers. I have never seen this tactic (selling useless sh*t at a 1,000% markup) used at any reputable dealer, and I will not do business with dealers that think I am a fool.
The car I purchased had a sticker on it with this same cr*p (Nitrogen filled tires, some sort of sealer nonsense, pin-striping, etc.) that was added to the car. It was shipped from another dealership (from Houston to Austin), and was never even mentioned during the sales process. If they had asked me to pay even 10c for this junk, I would have walked out the door.
No Audi, BMW, MB, Porsche or Lexus dealer I have been to has ever had a sign on a car with these "dealer add-ons" or mentioned them ever in negations. These things are always a rip-off, are totally unnecessary (else the manufacturer would have added them from the factory) and never worth anywhere near the added price. Dealer add-ons on a car are a pretty clear sign that they want to make a few extra $$$ off of inexperienced buyers, and I will avoid those dealers like the plague.
If I see a dealership with a rare car that has a "dealer mark-up" sign on it, they are forever purged from my shopping list. A local Pontiac dealership back in the mid 2000's was offering the then brand new Pontiac Solstice (MSRP about $25,000) with a 15-20%% dealer markup. I had gotten on a wait list, and was told I could buy my way up the list by paying a higher markup - no vehicle was on the lot (they even sold their demo cars for several $1,000 over MSRP) and you couldn't take a test drive - they wanted a down payment on a car unseen and without the ability to test drive one before buying it. I declined.
A few months later - once the people who "needed" to own a Soltstice the day it was released had all paid their above sticker price - I got a call from the dealership that they had cars on the lot and would like to invite me to a test drive. I told them I'd rather drive a rusted through Triumph Spitfire with no working top, that was running on only 3 cylinders, than ever step foot onto their lot again. They could have sold me a car at MSRP, but once they decided that their short-term greed far exceeded their interest in creating satisfied customers I was done with them.
Reputable dealers will not try this tactic on their customers. I'm glad you got that junk removed from the price and now get to enjoy your new car!
