  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I finally figured it out! While the swoopy H is no great shakes, I never understood why everyone thinks the wing emblem is so great.

Its a classic tramp stamp! I don't personally go for that look, but it explains why so many folks want the wings on the butt of their car.

But to each his own, different strokes, etc. etc. But you got to admit the symbolism.

For those of us that are uneducated-what is a tramp stamp?
What socio economic groups use that term and what part of the country is it used in?

Good to see I'm not the only one who didn't know what a tramp stamp is.:D

"Tramp stamp" generally refers to the lower-back tattoos that are becoming more and more popular on females.

I guess I am the one owner with no rebadging intentions.

I am really surprised by the results of this poll. How is Hyundai going to build a reputation as a luxury brand, if all the luxury cars sold are "cloaked"? Does this also mean if asked the question directly, would you avoid saying it is a Hyundai?

Everyone I have spoke to in my local area since getting this car is impressed with the leap forward Hyundai has made in quality and design of vehicle offerings. I think Hyundai should get some recognition for that.

Not saying everyone should adjust to my point of view, but was still amazed at the number of people rebadging.

For me it wasn't a question of 'cloaking' or trying to hide the fact that it is a Hyundai, the wing emblems just look better then the flying H. Typically when people come up to me and ask me about my car i tell them it's a Hyundai genesis and the very next question is 'that's a Hyundai????' i look forward to that response, lol i love the fact that people are shocked that such a nice looking car is made by Hyundai, so no i don't hide the fact that it's a Hyundai at all. To that point, I think Hyundai did a poor job in introducing the Genesis to the market place. If you look at the other major car companies, they all have a separate division for their luxury cars with different names, branding, etc(Honda - Acura, etc) This is the approach Hyundai should have gone (and from some of the posts i have seen in this and other discussion websites they may be moving in that direction) when they introduced the Genesis. They could have introduced themselves to the market place for their luxury division and setup new dealerships that sell their brand only (currently the genesis are selling in dealerships along with other companies) The dealerships that sell this car should be upscale and luxurious like the Acura, and BMW dealerships they are competing against. It's damn near a joke that i call the dealerships in my area (i live in NY) to find 1 true Hyundai dealership and others sell multiple brands (like Curry Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan) all at the same dealership (i know this is not typical for all dealerships but since Hyundai does not have a major presence in most markets, they usually 'share' dealerships with other major brands) . This in my opinion is not a well thought out expansion to the US for their luxury brands. Not only should they have been thinking of the car but the dealerships where people will be buying this car as well. Now i know we are in a recession and that kind of outlay is expensive, but if you want to do something big like this you can't half ass it like they did, you have to do it right or not at all. I know many people here, and other discussion sites, are disappointed in the dealerships/service centers that currently are available for the Genesis (either though poorly trained/informed sales staff and especially poorly trained service mechanics). This is an item they ultimately need to address before they even think of bring in the Equus to the US, cuz i don't know anyone who will by a 60-70K vehicle from a Hyundai/Toyota/anything else dealership, lol

I too have no intentions of changing my "H". The car speaks for itself, and the Tech pkg is awsome. I did my research and for the money, I feel it was a steal. If other people want to buy a name brand luxury car and spend the big $$, thats their choice. Yes its a Genesis by Hyundia.........that's all I have to say.

Where can the rebadging items be found/purchased? Thanks.

I had a guy see the winged badge and ask me if the car was a "Bentley". I said "No, its a Hyundai Genesis". He was impressed.

If you want the trunk badge, make sure you order Part Number 86330-3M000.
MARK ASSY-TAIL GATE. It is a perfect fit, just as is, once you remove the Flying H from the trunk. Fits the trunk holes perfect.

The one for the front hood is Part Number 86320-3M000. American Genesis' do not have the holes in the hood for this badge, and you must cut the pegs off in order for it to fit.

Do not get the two badges mixed up, unless you want the extra work to get them to fit.
I ordered my Rear Badge from my Hyundai Dealer.

Also, I'd like to see pictures of before / after....

I scanned over pictures / video in another thread and can't see removing italic H.
As I pass people, I like to 'flash' that italic H. :p

When I got my 3.8 Silver BlackTech I requested the Genesis have the new badges on the hood, trunk, and wheel covers. It made it look even more distingished. I love Hyundai and what their products represent. However the Genesis is special and needs to be represented as a brand of its own. Why the name Genesis wasn't picked up by a competitor years ago is a loss for them and a big advantage for Hyundai.

I got to see my Genesis on the highway today and does it look sharp with the wings. One thing that I'm curious is that although Genesis is considered a large car it really
looks smaller like a midsize....which makes it look sportier...well thought out design.

Does anyone else have this same observation?

Externally, it is more of a mid-size car, but by EPA standards, the interior room and trunk qualify it as a "Large" car!

I'm sort of a minimalist, so I don't want a front hood emblem. However, the flying H looks pretty cheesy in my opinion, while the wings look pretty slick. So, I'm going to replace the rear emblem, wheel caps and steering wheel emblem.

Ordered the parts off of eBay this evening (all prices incl. S&H);
- $8 for the rear emblem
- $19 for the steering wheel emblem
- $36 for 4x 18" wheel caps

Not bad to make the car look more attractive. Oh, and I tell people its a Hyundai if they ask, I'm not worried about branding, only what *I* think about its looks.

Dealership sold wings for 20$ so it was convenient enough. Now I have little wing in the back.

Mother's Day there were three Gennie's, Black, White and Champagne, in the resteraunt parking lot. All three had wings. I just like the wings better, and the charcoal wings on the wheels looks better to me than the oem.

3.8 Chanpagne/tan with Premium.

I actually bought the air bag with the wings, dealer charged $90 to install. By the way it looks GOOD!

What is the best airbag elblem change? Pry it off and replace or cover it up with a sticky over ply?

The "best" emblem change is to replace the airbag module with the Korean market one. It's light year's nicer than the aftermarket stick-on one.

That being said, everyone has said that it's much better to place the emblem on top of the H, not to remove the H. From personal experience, it looks and fits fine just on top of it.

Just received an e-mail from USPS that my wings and hubs arrived at the post office this morning at 7:11am. I hope that the carrier was still sorting so that I receive them today. I'm itching to install them before a weekend trip.

I really like the winged emblems, maybe because they look a lot like the USAF pilot's wings that were pinned on my chest in 1953.
