  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

Personally the biggest disappointment from the NY Auto Show was the Mint Concept. Genesis always hit it out of the park in my opinion for concept cars and I looked forward to it every year but this time it was just bland and pretty boring. I really wanted to see a Coupe of a G70 in concept form with the new face on it. On the other hand the model that surprised me when it came to design was the 2020 Cadillac CT5. That model looks amazing and honestly props to Cadillac for finally figuring out their new design language.

Actually like the Mint concept; shows Genesis is thinking outside the box and there could be a market for an upscale urban BEV (also like how the dual strip light design can change/be differentiated).

Not surprised the facelifted G90 didn't show up as wouldn't be good to show up the 2019 G90 (of which there are dealerships just getting them or will be getting them); diff. for Canada since they've been selling the 2019 G90 for about a year.

As for the CT5 - the front and rear are pretty good, but the side/greenhouse just ruins it.

Really awkward shape w/ that atrocious black plastic panel (made worse w/ that chrome nib a la the Civic).

Also, the dash design already looks outdated.

Lincoln's new dash design looks more elegant and upscale.

@YEH I thought the same when I looked at the CT5. The side view ruined it for me.

I would probably see the Mint selling more in Asia then in the states. It fits what the Japanese like which is small Urban type of vehicles.

Reason why I thought the G90 Facelift would get revealed at NY was because back around January or March Genesis Canada revealed it their and usually when that happens Genesis of USA would reveal the car at NY. But I understand your point.

As for the CT5, I agree with you that the C-Pillar fake glass thing is not a good idea but the overall vehicle looks very good for a Cadillac especially in today’s standards. Let’s not forget at least Cadillac isn’t giving up on Sedans unlike other American brands. I usually like to hold judgement until I see it in person but so far it looks very good. I’m sure you and I both want to see the V version.

What's the problem ?? I think it looks really good.. I can understand if one has a "preference" for the more sedan style back end.. but this thing looks great IMO. and it is FREE of any Cartoonish sized grill.

I saw an Audi last Friday that look so much like the rendering of the 2020 G80 that I thought it might be one. I chased it down a little until I saw it was an Audi the rear and sides look like the rendering. Did not see the front. Also did not catch the model.

Also for some reason this picture of the Cadillac CT5 looks better than the one from the show. Color maybe, still there is something about the rear of the profile that does not trip my trigger. Maybe it is the way the rear light sits, or that black piece after the back windows, or the spoiler thing off the trunk or a combination of the three. For me just covering the spoiler with my courser makes the profile look better, cleaner. I like the roof line. And everything from the rear door through the front. So it might just be me but I have never liked a fake spoiler on a trunk lid. If it were really functional like on a Porsche then its okay but the little ones that are just for looks don't look good to me.

Looks like Caddy made an attempt to imitate the G80 with that profile, but the execution was sloppy at the C pillar. The tail lights do hint of G80 and so does the short front overhang. I love that part on the G80/CT5 and hate cars with so much clunk ahead of the front wheels.
Now if Caddy would only bring the Escala to life as shown, sigh.

I beg to differ I see no imitation of Cadillac coping the G80. They are in completely different segments. Remember this model replaces both the ATS and CTS. The short overhangs is something the ATS had which is why they did that for the CT5. I don’t see anything in the design that copies or mimics the G80.

that rear door is a mess, 3 seam lines, the extra quarter window within the door and the pointed tip above the fuel filler.. yuck

A mess is being gentlemanly kind. But I looked online in the deep red color at the NY show makes it look better. The Malibu style IPad display inside is another mess (gentlemanly kind) 😁

See photo attached. The semblance is not about segments or what the car replaces, just the look. And I know the short overhang of the ATS, I owned one and loved it, my comment was a compliment.

I think I can see where you say there are similarities but then again, there is only so much differentiation that can be done.

Agree. I tried to do the photo stack like you did, but failed. LOL
By the way, check out Polish Angel products to bring out that deep shine in you beloved Genesis cars. They are a bit pricey, but worth it. Rapid Waxx base with High Gloss spray (that is the name of the product) for maintenance and you will LOVE it. See Photos. Enjoy.

At a glance I can see it. Looking at details the differences become apparent but from a quick glance the profile said Genesis before it said Cadillac. The more I look, the less I like it though.

Less you like the Caddy? Or the Genesis?

Like the Caddy less. Poor imitation one you start looking in detail. The profile is about all that is in common. Genesis has nicer wheels too.

Totally agree.

Well, maybe (even if Korea and China, the 2 main Asian markets for Genesis, like their large sedans), but I'd say just as much (if not more so for Europe).

Even here, in urban centers like NYC, think there would be a market for a premium small BEV (easy to park in small spaces, don't have to visit a gas station - which are getting more difficult to find in the city, etc.).

Don't think could ever get past that chrome nib and the black plastic.

The facelifted CT6 looks better, even tho it still has the traditional/somewhat bland greenhouse/C-pillar.

Kinda funny how the basis for the new Cadillac design language, the Escala, has a greater similarity to the G80 (granted, only so much can do w/ that shape).

The only part I see similar is the bottom line of the door. Personally I just don’t think Cadillac went and said “We should look at the G80 for design cues” they based their design on the Escala and not the G80. I still don’t like the C-Pillar as much as the next person but I just can’t imagine Cadillac wanting to copy Genesis.
