The Genesis G80 has long been a firm favourite of the hire-car crowd. But that was back when its was sold as a Hyundai, and not as a standalone premium product. Will this re-launch broaden its appeal?

They have a specific road tune for Aussie models. Doubt it is drivetrain. Mostly chassis based. My best is 6 secs stock.

179kw is 240hp. Are they using 87 Octane power rating?

yes, exactly. the 3.3T rating for aussieland agrees with our rating, but the 2.0T is off by 15hp. something seems weird. not sure why they'd retune the 2.0T and not 3.3T.

i wonder what the Stinger 2.0T is rated at down under...

They normally tune them up and not down over there.
Must be a typo unless their official site also says it.
I suspect they are using 87 Octane numbers as the 2.0T was specced with lower Octane on the Sonata and Optima previously.

^ perhaps, but then why wouldn’t they have done the same for the 3.3T? Just seems odd to use a lower rating for one and not the other. Unless the 3.3T puts out 365hp on regular, then fair enough.

The official site lists ‘240’ (179kw) for the 2.0T, so no typo as Beefer showed.

^ yeah, but they compete on price. this is where the G70 pulls away, literally and figuratively. people like to compare the 3.3t to the M340i for performance but in the real world there is a huge on-road price gap. easily $10-$15k. base prices may be similar but try finding a base M340i.

Base M340i still clocks in higher for the RWD variant than the AWD G70 Sport (or Dynamic edition for that matter)

I haven't read the reviews or comparisons, but I wouldn't doubt that the M340i has a significant performance advantage on the G70, so that may justify the cost. Probably wouldn't matter for most since the cars both operate in an odd segment that straddles the line for luxury/performance vehicles

^ you're probably right.

the base M340i xdrive starts at just shy of $64k in CAD. plus freight & PDI, etc,, which adds another $2500. the G70 Sport AWD is $58k CAD, including freight & PDI. we don't get a RWD option for either, but i assume the spread would be relative.

so, a minimum of ~$8500 difference before options on the M340i. it does cross the line ahead of the G70, but at a steep premium so it should be faster to justify the cost.
