  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tesla CyberTruck

Wait till your tesla breaks down and is no longer covered under warranty. Wait till you go in for your 15k or 30k service wait. Wait till you get your tesla towed cause it wont charge .Dont believe me just watch. Wait what are you even doing in this forum?

well said...we need to support the companies that continue to make "quality" cars...SMH

So why are you in the G70 forum?

Wait what are you even doing in this forum?

I didn't realize you need G70 papers to post here. Would G80 papers suffice?

I'm not worried about this one. Batteries will advance in at a similar rate as Moore's Law (far from an exact linear curve, however), and costs will be fractional by the time it's out of warranty -- certainly less than a combustion engine. As for the "15/30k" services, there is no annual service requirements aside from the standard wear items. I have my tires rotated at a local shop, and have them lube up the brakes which are rarely used. Air filter every few years.

Just curious since you obviously prefer Teslas, why even bother with a G80 or whatever. No need to get snippy...

I wouldn't worry about getting your future EV serviced. There is already a courage industry of shops in California that build electric hot rods using Tesla motors and batteries. There will be plenty of guys who learn the new technology, and even those that do this kind of custom work to keep hotrodding alive.
I will miss the sounds and smells of an ICE.

let me rephrase that 15k/ 30k really nothing for regular ice car minus the oil and filters .No cabin filter in a tesla? or do they call it a " beyond filter " and have something you dont have to replace ? ill guarantee that your "first service" out of pocket will cost more than all my oil changes in the same year span.

electric and hot rod shouldn't even be used together. doesn't even make sense. :wallbash:

Hey...there always has to be one thread where we can bash stuff. Since Tesla and their wedge shit is the hot topic...why not :)

It just makes me feel better to say "Teslas suck". There...I feel better now.

You can certainly like and own more than one brand - I've had, continue to have and influenced quite a few Hyundai vehicles purchases over the last 10 years. But yeah, I do prefer Tesla at this point, primarily for the safety followed by the technology factor. I still think Hyundai/Genesis is the best value in the non-EV market and I don't think I would buy another other brand of car for a daily in that market, I hope Hyundai closes the gap with EV technology because they're currently at least a few years behind.

The cost of ownership will be less overall for an EV versus a traditional combustion car, especially if you intend on owning the vehicle for more than a few years. All my business cars and most of my personal cars will be EVs for that reason soon.

Have you guys seen the Tesla Tuktuk? It's called the CyberTuk!

you just bought your tesla correct ?

I'll own an EV at some point when other car manufacturers catch up to Tesla's tech. Aside from the Model S, I think every Tesla is duck ugly (yes duck, as in duck face), and the interiors are just horrendous!! Controlling EVERYTHING through that huge iPad is ridiculous, and in some cases, dangerous. The minimalist design cues are great for hotels, but not so much for cars. Also, the fit and finish (both exterior and interior) are pretty sloppy. But to be fair, most american automakers are in the same category. Lol.

I like what Tesla is doing in terms of technology, but I don't like the majority of their finished products.

I don't know much about lithium mining, but I have seen several articles like this about Tesla's Gigafactories....

Tesla Gigafactory Employee Death Raises Workers' Safety Concerns

Tesla's safety problems at its Nevada Gigafactory detailed in new report

Tesla factory workers reveal pain, injury and stress: 'Everything feels like the future but us'

...I'm sure some of it is hyperbole, but when you start seeing consistent reports saying essentially the same thing, then you've got to admit that there is some truth to the claims.

A friend of mine quit his job at Tesla and is OVER THE MOON about leaving. He said the place is horrible because of how overworked everyone is.
To be fair, you can voice control most things instead of using the dumb ipad (I stopped by to see a Model 3 in the mall once). I will give them credit for making the most Apple-esq interior imaginable, but I'm not a fan. Some YouTuber explained it best: Tesla needs to stand out to drive sales. They're not going win over the truck crowd by basically making an electric F-150 because everyone would just buy the actual F-150. They're going to get sales by making something you can't ignore - love it or hate it.

Like you said, fit and finish just isn't there. However, on a brighter note, HYUNDAI has committed to spend ~$17 Billion on EV tech over the next 6 years. I'm sure everyone else in the market is doing similarly. Once the big boys in the car market hop on the wagon, Tesla is likely to be f**ked.

Again, I'm not a scientist so I won't definitively disagree with you, but I do doubt the position that EVs are no better, or as some will argue, worse for the environment than ICE cars. I don't work directly in the EV industry, but am in finance and my firm invests heavily in the renewable energy sector. My colleague manages a portfolio that is focused on EV tech and his team is very much aware of current research in the area. Hearing him tell it, a lot of studies that are critical of EV tech have been discredited as biased, or at best, do not have the backing of the independent scientific community. Don't forget that Tesla is one of the most shorted stock in the US market so there is a lot of financial interest in spreading information that is detrimental to the EV industry, and some parties will not necessarily care whether that information is true or not.

As far as kids working in lithium mines, I'm cynical enough about the state of the world to believe this. It's definitely sad, but I don't think exploitation of people (particularly in the developing world) is a problem that is isolated to EV technology. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I don't think condemning EVs will solve this.

Hook me up with a job! 🤷‍♂️

total cost to own you will be spending more on your tesla from insurance, repairs, maintenance, ECT....in the span of ownership guarantee. people are fooled most tesla owners i biased and dont talk about when they get stranded, or get lock in there car , or how easy it was to hack and steal a tesla , or what the cost of certain things are, how many drive motors they had to replace or how there car wont let you go past a certain mph at times on longer drives. ect.. F all that... i work in the automotive industry and believe me there are alot more cons to what you normal tesla owner rave about tesla owners are blind and biased.

Earlier this year, yeah. I've got some more on order as well.

I'm happy to compare comparable vehicles, I'm quite certain an EV will have a smaller cost of ownership than a combustion vehicle in their respective categories.

Outliers happen all the time to all brands, I've had some relatively higher than average bad luck with the Hyundai brands personally (Multiple lemons) but don't hold it against them as a consumer because they've always made it right. Any manufacturer that intends to stay in business will do likewise. I'm fairly certain the historical brands all had way more issues when they were just getting into the mass automotive market in their first 15 years, we will see a similar trend with battery tech that will be improved over time with efficiencies and technology advancements at a far more rapid rate than combustion engines at this point. As for parts replacements, there's a few dozen moving parts in most full EVs, whereas the traditional combustion drivetrain has thousands.

The automotive industry is set for massive changes here soon. I foresee some industry members not keeping up with the advancements to the point of going out of business or being purchased into a larger group. Same thing with traditional dealerships.

Yup, I have several cars from several brands, but not one of them sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Hahaha

"Several on order..." and what do you plan to do with your fleet of Teslas? How about a nice 911 GT3 RS or something?

well, kudos to you sounds like cost isnt a issue to you anyways. what hyundai models did you have issues with? im fortunate to not have any issues with my hyundai and genesis products (knock on wood) they have honestly been the most reliable vehicles ive owned (mercedes, bmw, mazda, toyota, infiniti, lincoln, ford).

Lol. I think the regulatory authorities are making it that artificial sounds are mandatory by the end of next year on all EVs. I think the new Model 3's have it right now, sounds for driving under 25 mph and reversing. I sometimes miss the throaty growl of a nice 8 or 12, the electric torque is addicting however. It's tough to look at cars differently from a fun perspective. Mix that with the safety and technology, it's tough for me to look elsewhere. I think long term the Cybertruck and Roadster will fit the bill for a daily and a fun car. I've never been a Porsche guy though. Their new Taycan looks pretty neat, might give one a spin when it hits the lots.

Quite a few actually. The major ones - My 2009 Genesis went through like 5 head units, 2011 Sonata Turbo blew a piston the day after purchasing it. 2012 R-Spec went through two engines. 2015 had two transmissions and some head unit issues as well (one of the transmissions were shipped upside down, causing a substantial service delay) -- fortunately my 2018 daily has not had any significant issues. Knock on wood for that one! Needless to say, regional HMA here in the central region loves and hates me I'm pretty sure. I've got some fun stories to share about that one sometime :)
