  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tesla CyberTruck

Lol. I think the regulatory authorities are making it that artificial sounds are mandatory by the end of next year on all EVs. I think the new Model 3's have it right now, sounds for driving under 25 mph and reversing. I sometimes miss the throaty growl of a nice 8 or 12, the electric torque is addicting however. It's tough to look at cars differently from a fun perspective. Mix that with the safety and technology, it's tough for me to look elsewhere. I think long term the Cybertruck and Roadster will fit the bill for a daily and a fun car. I've never been a Porsche guy though. Their new Taycan looks pretty neat, might give one a spin when it hits the lots.

Quite a few actually. The major ones - My 2009 Genesis went through like 5 head units, 2011 Sonata Turbo blew a piston the day after purchasing it. 2012 R-Spec went through two engines. 2015 had two transmissions and some head unit issues as well (one of the transmissions were shipped upside down, causing a substantial service delay) -- fortunately my 2018 daily has not had any significant issues. Knock on wood for that one! Needless to say, regional HMA here in the central region loves and hates me I'm pretty sure. I've got some fun stories to share about that one sometime :)
if not, im calling BS on some of your claims.

I would like to point out I have a friend with a Model S that has over 120,000km on it and it has been very reliable and he has done nothing but regular maintenance to it. Anything else that has gone wrong has been covered by Tesla.

I do assume one day I will own an electric car, and there is a good chance it will even be a Tesla (Model 3 is a blast to drive and if you haven't tried it, you need to). That said I am still happy with what I have. The model 3 long range which is very comparable to the G70 3.3T Sport that I have costs about $20K more in Canada and there is no rebates for it where I live. It is simply not worth $20K more imo. If the price difference was only about $5K like in the US, I would definitely look closer at it.

you should check out the new Mustang Mach-E if you thing the Model 3 is a blast to drive. IMO FAR superior.

I'm seriously looking at it to replace the G80 as my daily driver when my lease is up.

Umm, if I had that many issues with a certain brand, i definitely wouldn't buy anymore.

Head unit? What, the stereo? Or are you referring to the cylinder head on the engine?

Well, at least with the Teslas, you dont have to worry about that. Hopefully you dont have any capacitor, battery, or motor coil failures...

Ok, I'm done with this worthless thread about a total heap of a truck and Tesla fan club derpa derp... peace

As for that Ford brick, calling that thing a Mustang is pure sacrilege. Guess they thought that they might attract some real gear heads if they were able to convince people that it somehow is a Mustang. Yo Man, just picked up a sweet new Mustang (whispers, Mach-E). What a joke. Call it something else, dont tarnish a legend. It's bad enough that it's a four door crossover SUV let alone electric. Maybe they pump artificial Coyote V8 sounds through the speakers so that buyers dont feel too embarrassed that it has Mustang badges on it. You dont see Porsche calling the Cayanne a 911...

Give me a break.

I'm going to have to take your word for that. I may own an electric some day too, but it will be a good looking car. I could not live with the front end. The standard Aero wheels are just plain ugly too, but the sport look OK. . Not the car for me. It may get better, but fit and finish has had many complaints and the cost out of warranty is astronomical.

In a few years, choices will be better when more cars from more makers are available.

Haha, I couldn't agree more - and I don't even like Mustangs!

They actually call their top trims of electric Taycan a Turbo.

I don't think that's a valid argument. There are Porsche cars that are turbocharged, but don't say 'Turbo' in the name. Also, back in the late 80's and early 90's, you saw tons of computers (mostly 486's) that had a 'turbo' function, didn't mean it had a tiny turbocharger in there.

Even so, I get that people are calling them out that, generally speaking, all their models with the Turbo name have actually been turbo'd. I don't think that's nearly as offensive as what Tesla just produced in their CyberTruck, though.

Well I have actually driven the model 3, but seeing as there is no way to drive the mach-e, I wouldn't claim it to be superior. I agree it looks to be a good option (really like the interior) even though I hate the name choice. lol

I agree the car looks odd and I would never get those base wheels. But like I said, the car is a blast to drive. The Model 3 I have driven was built this summer and the build quality is way better than my other friends 2014 Model S. They have definitely made improvements although they still are not up to the best of other manufacturers. And how would you know the cost out of warranty is astronomical when no Model 3's are out of warranty yet? And like i mentioned my friends Model S hasn't cost a penny out of warranty yet. Not saying that is the case for everyone, but their resale numbers clearly show they still have quite a bit of value out of warranty.

I did get to drive the Mach-E hence my statement, have also driven the Model 3, X and S. The Mach-E IMO is like a combination of the 3 and X, it is much more agile than and handles better than the X IMO, drives more like a sports sedan as it has a wider and lower center of gravity than the X, its handling is very close if not better than the Model 3 from my limited experience, the X is taller and more of truck/suv ride.

I agree the interior of the Mach-E is very nice.

also agree it should not have been called a Mustang, I see what Ford was going for in the name, but I think the name is a miss. the vehicle itself will be a hit IMO, 1/2 the price of a Model X with similar and in some areas better performance and options.

Great synopsis! I'd love to take the Mach E for a spin when it launches. I had an opportunity to experience the Model Y, and those two are going to be an interesting comparison. It's nice to see that they are moving forward with one price for the E, the trend will eventually transition to that.

There was an article (now lost) that outlined some of the cost of repair on out of warranty Teslas. Parts have to come from Tesla and the prices are very high. One had door handles replaced three times at a grand a pop. Others are having problems getting body parts after an accident. There are a lot of cars that may be fun to drive and make a great hobby. but, IMO, they are not ready for prime time as your only daily driver.

I cant stand these oversized golf carts, but then again I'm a gear head who loves the smell of Nitro Methane and tire smoke in the morning, but I digress... however I'd argue that the G70 was rushed to market and also isnt ready for prime time. Parts are scarce, wait times are ridiculous (parts have to come from S.Korea), dealerships are clueless how to work on them, majority of dealerships arent equipped or refuse to honor the valet and loaner services, reliability is questionable (sunroof issues, trans issues, rattles, electrical issues, paint and trim issues, etc...).

In my opinion, Genesis is on the verge of meeting criteria for a class action suit for false advertising when considering many of us decided to buy one due in large part to the promise of valet service, loaners, and an overall carefree ownership experience which by all accounts including admission to me by a Genesis rep that they have recieved multiple complaints but have no control over the dealerships' unwillingness to honor the services as advertised.
