  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Intake comparisons

So I had the K&N Cold air intakes for about 2 weeks now and everything seems to be fine. However, when I'm on throttle, instead of just one long continuous suction of air, my intake will stutter and do multiple quick consecutive suction sounds like it is struggling or something. I never heard this on other cars so I was wondering if I had a problem. It happens when I am about 50% throttle.
From what I have noticed it kinda seems to be a common issue with this platform. So I try to stick to the motto “full send or nothing”.

Could you give more info on K&N intakes? That could mean anything. Is it a kit? Clamp ons? Drop ins?

ahhh crap so you have the same problem too

I am also running Map 2 and changed the spark plugs, everything else is stock

Thank you for the info. I haven't noticed this myself but since you have other mods that I don't have it's hard to say. I will go for a drive when I'm off work and especially listen for this but also make sure you reset the system by unplugging the battery, perhaps the JB4 already does this? Worth a shot anyway I will update asap
PS: if you unplug the entire battery leave the trunk open or you wont be able to open it again unless you climb in the back seat and use the manual lever.

Yes my car does it too. But I just fix it by either driving normal or just punching it

Thanks I learned about the trunk part the hard way lol

Haha. Ya I have been fortunate enough to not get one since I got my car lol
So what do you think those sounds are? Some sort of surge or flutter? That’s kinda freaky for just an aftermarket intake mod. I know you guys run the JB4 too, maybe that’s the root cause?

I was taking yo someone and he said it might be the mass airflow sensor or something like that. I'm not too good with cars so I would not know, but yea I run the jb4, the high boost might be causing the stuttering as well.

Huh... I've never had that sound on my car, and I'm using the AEM intake (which is the same as the K&N, just plastic piping and dry filters).

Perhaps you could record a video or audio clip of it making the sound?

I'll record it when I have the chance

Ok I managed to get a video of it. Not the best audio but you hear it on the second pull for about 1 second so listen closely lol. It happens at the 9-second mark to the 11-second mark.

I really think it's related to how the JB4 manipulates sensor inputs. Try switching it to Map 0 and see if it still does it.

Has anyone given the Agency Power intake a go? Looks solid but I know there were fitment concerns.

Also, should I assume any intakes made for the 3.3 stinger or g70 would include replacement for both intakes? Most dont specify (other than the agency power and BMS) that it comes with two kits.

I'll try it and see what happens

I would stay away from the Agency Power Kit. Unless AP has redone the kit in the last few months it’s going to be nothing but problems. Specifically the filters not seating on the inlet pipes correctly and having a tendency to pop off of the piping. When I noted all of the issues I was having with the AP Kit the response I got was basically, “We never test fitted this to a G70 so we can’t guarantee it’ll work with your car.” Of course after I bought and installed mine I then started finding all sorts of complaints from the Stinger side about similar issues I was having.

I ended up going with the Injen kit but had to order new filters as the filters supplied in the kit were too long and had clearance issues that I wasn’t comfortable with. Injen basically said the same as AP, that the kit was never test fitted on a G70 so they couldn’t recommend using their kit.

The BMS Kit wasn’t what I was looking for, visually, so I didn’t check it out. But from what I’ve seen on these boards most G70 owners really like the BMS Kit.

I tried doing something similar... But at a lower speed. I'm not hearing the sound stutter at all - this is at about 1/3 throttle.

Take a look/listen...

Let me know if I'm doing it wrong - or maybe I just have selective hearing!
