  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What 5 relatively inexpensive items would you like to see added to the Genesis?

As a guy with a good R&D and Manufacturing background, belive me, they can do a whole lot for a grand total of less than $50 (mfrs cost, not retail), by adding the entire following list of mostly chromed plastic stuff what would enhance appearance (one item is more complex, it involves adding 1 LED to an existing string of LEDs).

For under $50 in total you can add all the following:

:)Wing Emblems - hood, trunk, wheels and steering wheel. (Less than $10 to manufacture the whole lot)

:)Chromed B pillar (between front and rear doors) and chromed window trim. (Less than $10-$20 to manufacture the whole lot)

:)Exhaust vents (decorative) on hood or rear side panels (like Buick used to have, and sports cars may have today). (Less than $10 to manufacture the whole lot)

:)Mud guards on wheel wells. (Less than $5 to manufacture)

:)Side-marker lights or reflectors (amber front, red rear). Cost less than $1 to manufacture.

:)Rear bumper reflectors. Costs less than $1 to manufacture.

:)Turn Signal visible in mirrors. (Don't know, probably $5-$25, depending on implementation. My preferred implementation would be to add a few more LEDs to the led strip already on the side mirrors, wrapping one of those LEDs around the edge so they would be visible from the drivers seat).

There are lots more things to be done, but this list is constrained by definition to "relatively inexpensive" items.

All that on one car? seems like too much to me...

All of the above, plus:

Those little pull-out extenders in the visors...real handy when the sun is coming in your driver side window and getting you right in the retina, because the visor is not long enough to block the sun!!!!

I guess I'll have to resort to my trusty old folded map, (held in place with a rubber band around the visor) to provide the additional blocking!!!

Just plain tacky.:o

Do you know that the entire visor will slide out if you pull it? It will cover the entire length of the side mirror on the slide.

:welcome:Yes, that's a nice feature, but what's even better is having 2 left and 2 right side sun-visors that move independently of each other.

That way you can have one blocking the side windows at the same time you're using its "mate" to block the front windows.

My old Mercury Sable had them, and they were a pleasure, esp. in the strong Florida sun, and esp. when the sun was low in the sky and shining right in your eyes (the 1st hours of sunlight in the AM, and the last hours in the PM)

The VW Golf has the same thing. When you swing the visor to the side it exposes a second visor that can be folded forward. It is a nice feature that all cars should have...especially higher end models.

My apologies if this was already mentioned: a heated steering wheel (heats when the seat heater is turned on). I think Saab has had this for a while (while they were still a viable car company.

Just purchased a 2010 V6 w/Tech package, I'd like to see:
1) backlit homelink buttons
2) Fan speed button that also turns off the fan
3) Remove ashtray and cigarette lighter
4) Ability to shuffle ALL CDs, not just the CD playing
5) Factory smoked glass

5) Factory smoked glass

I'm not exactally sure what you mean by "smoked glass", but....

Your car does have tinted glass. Granted it is not really noticable, but many cars including caddy's show in the window sticker "tinted glass"

It says on the windshield and possibly on the door windows "min. 70%" or possibly 80%. I don't remember without looking. My Elantra said min 70% on the glass, but using a tint meter the glass read 80% vlt (variable light transmission).

- High intensity headlights on all models [It's embarrassing to have yellow lights on a car that is supposed to be premium.]

- Separate heat control for the seat and back. My Genesis makes the back too hot before the seat warms up. Just put another switch there so the back can be turned off or down.

- Power folding mirrors, as several people have listed.

- A trunk that is easier to close. It does not have to be powered, just balanced. The trunk on my 06 Acura would close with a small tug from the inside hand hold. I have to pull the Genesis trunk nearly closed and pull hard to make it close.

- Better interior storage. The layout of the pockets and compartments could probably be improved to offer more useful places to keep small items. With the audio taps on the bottom of the center storage compartment, you have to either not use them, or keep the compartment nearly empty. The jacks should actually be external to the compartment.

I agree. Installed an HID kit and it was dead simple and cost all of $50 bucks, including HID light, connectors and ballast. The entire kit fit neatly inside the stock Genesis light housing, requiring no cutting or seal compromises. It can't cost Hyundai much more than that to include them on all models.

Well, I just spent the last 20 minutes reading all of the suggestions and I can relate to all of them. My list was longer than 5, but they were mostly repeating what others have said. Here's a couple that I haven't read.
1. Another set of blinker indicators at the bottom of the RPM/Speedo guages... along with the pre existing ones at the top... I'm 6'3" and on every car I've had, the top of the steering wheel blocks the blinker lights and I find myself having driven miles with a blinker on ...duh... and NO, I will NOT drive with the steering wheel raised (very uncomfortable) just to see the blinkers.
Maybe my next suggestion will fix that....
2. Make the drivers seat sit lower. I've got it all the way down, but it's still too high for my height. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sits tall in the saddle. I guess the Korean average height has something do do with that.
3. Any ambient lighting (front & rear) would be an improvement. Someone DID mention that the icy blue lights would look good overhead... I agree!
4. When opening the trunk, have it open fully! All other cars I've had made it easy to load an arms full of groceries, boxes etc.... provided you had your key fob in hand ahead of time.
5. As mentioned in another thread, have the audio system play from one CD to the next. Yes, as mentioned, all you have to do is hold down the left arrow button on the steering wheel a couple of seconds and it will advance to the next CD, but it would be nice to not HAVE to do that.

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL OF YOUR POSTINGS ON THIS SITE! I've been reading it for weeks before I got my 4.6 w/tech. I really love this car.
I've said it before, but I really don't miss my 2007 E-559 BENZ. This is so much more fun! Thanks again. Mike

1. Backlit homelink
2. Backlit steering wheel stalks
3. Built-in hard drive
4. Better matched HID headlights

Wow. You must have a different trunk spring from mine.
I have to say that I never saw a single car that has a trunk lid that closes easier than my Genesis.
All I have to do is slightly pull the handle and it shuts by itself.
What's the build date of yours?

Dan

You guys pretty much covered all arena.

I would like to see Haioondai put Genesis emblems on the hood, trunk, wheel cap centers, and steering wheel on all Genesis models when they assemble the car.

You bought a Hyundai, you must accept this fact, it is a wonderful machine. Perhaps remove any trace (and freebie ad) of the dealer? That might be in order.

Nearwater: I don't know the build date of my car. I bought it in January and I think I recall that the dealer had it for a couple of months. My trunk closes smoothly, but takes a lot of pull to make it go to the bottom.

One of the things I forgot as something that I wish the car had is a way to open the windows and sunroof with the remote. Hondas and Acuras do that and I have found it to be a great way to quickly release hot air in the summer.

I'd be happy with features behaving like you'd expect them to (based on nearly any other vehicle with similar features.)

- phonebook transferring over bluetooth (what an incredible oversight!)

- ipod displaying full artist/song information and returning to the playlist display when power is cycled

- memory profile / key fob integration

- make the smartkey unlock the doors when approaching the vehicle, instead of having to push a button (at least make it an option)

- cooled seats on both sides

I have a 3.8 with a premium Navigation and it dise these two things already

It sounds like you like the look of American Cars, but I believe the reason most people buy European cars or Japanese or even Korean in this case "aside from reliabilty issues" is because they hate that look to begin with...too much chrome on a car makes it look cheap IMO.
