Yes: I am having the same exact discoloration on the Metal Trim Work, I am going to tell the Service department where I bought the Car at., Have you done anything about it?View attachment 15239I have my G80 sport for about 3 months and after I got my car back from the dealership for some rattle and armrest fabric issue. I notice that the dark chrome trim around the doors starting to discolor. I see spots everywhere on the chrome. Pieces started to look like it was from a 15 year old car.
Is anyone is having this issue? This is a WTF moment.
Had my trims replaced 3 times. They acknowledge there is an issue but can't pinpoint where it comes from.Yes: I am having the same exact discoloration on the Metal Trim Work, I am going to tell the Service department where I bought the Car at., Have you done anything about it?
I have the same issue on a single piece under the passenger rear window. My car is 1 month old with 1200 miles on it.I have the same issue. Had my G80 Sport for 2 months. Never put cleaner on the chrome.
I have a trim problem. I own a 2019 G70 genesisQuestion: has anybody with a 2019 had any issues with the trim? Sounds like no, but wanted to confirm. Also, for anybody who replaced their 2018 trim, has there been any further issues?
I would go to a different dealer. I just had mine replaced two weeks ago under warranty.I brought my '18 G80 sport in for the turbo oil recall and had them also take a look at the trim. According to them, Genesis is no longer replacing the trim. They are now directed to use this special one time only use buffing compound (and tool?). Well they had to order the part, but happened to have some "leftover" so they did ~75% of both sets of trim around the windows.
It appears to me that they are simply polishing off the dark chrome and leaving it in a more polished state. I can say this much it attracts and keeps fingerprints like crazy. Has anyone else run into this?
Just located this post! I have a Genesis G80 Sport 2019. Noticed it two weeks after I got the vehicle. They other door trims are doing it now. I really think it has something to do with going through car wash. My others trims we’re not doing it until my last two recent car washes. My hypothesis is this issue is only applicable to the 2018 G80 Sport based on the postings in this thread. If any non 2018 G80 Sport owner has this issue let us know. Additionally, it would be helpful if any non-U.S. 2018 G80 Sport owners have this issue (e.g. our northern neighbors -eh. My 2018 G80 Sport was purchased in the East Tennessee. Port of entry was Brunswick, Georgia (U.S. not Russia
) with a manufacture date of April 28, 2017
The 2018 G80 Sports is the only model with the darkened window trim pieces. Per the sales brochure "Sport dark chrome grille surround, grille insert and window trim".
I suspect this is an issue with the supplier using a "lacquer" to darken the non-Sport trim that is highly susceptible to this discoloration (acid rain, manufacture post lacquering cleaning solution) and not doing proper Q/A on their product before delivering to Genesis/Hyundai. My replacement trim had the same minor pitting on one piece. I assume, but cannot confirm, the dealer ordered replacement trim and did not "borrow" it from another G80 sport on the lot.
Since the replacement, I've done numerous home hand washes, 1 touch-free drive through wash, parked outside/driven in the rain, and the discoloration has not re-occurred. Car is kept garaged at home.
I did not discover this until my first home wash a couple of weeks after delivery. It took me several months to take it back to the dealer. Dealer replaced at no cost/no fuss (Mr. bubbaG80Sport we'll order the parts and fix the issue no problem).
My suggestions are:
1) Keep complaining to dealer
2) Find another dealer
3) Call Genesis/Hyundai repeatedly until you get resolution. Being gracious, charming and courteous will go a long way. As they say “You attract more bees with honey than vinegar”.

Worth noting we have this same issue on the G70 sport dark chrome trim. I've had mine all replaced, and the replacement pieces are still flaking/peeling and need replacing again. Manufacturing issue for sure.
Also, the guy who's dealership polished the dark chrome off.... I would have never let this happen. Now you have limited to no recourse anywhere else and your chrome trim doesn't match the dark chrome elsewhere.
Gold or platinum plated window trim.... I'd love for them to actually figure out a fix for the problem.
