  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Speaking of high mileage Genesis, does this car maintain relatively the same gas mileage as when it was new? Or it gradually got worse for you folks?

My 2005 Nissan Altima v6 gradually got worse gas mileage!!! It's 16mpg at 170k miles vs 22 when new.

mine (2011 4.6) is at 25mpg and it seems like that is about average since I've had it over 150k. Currently at 183k. It -might be starting to use a little oil as it was almost a qt down at the last oil change after 6-8k mi (I forget at the moment).
as I previously posted its starting to miss a little especially at low rpms. I'm debating about changing the ignition/spark plug coils as they are original and I've seen this behavior before in other cars that was fixed with the coil replacement. Or it could just be the engine reaching end of life for some other reason, but it seems to run strong most of the time. The trans has been trying to die for at least a 100k...

Probably carbon buildup on the heads and valves. Might be worth getting it cleaned. You should get better performance, too.

Dont know about the 5.0 (too new for me) but my 4.6 get 25-27 from Kansas to Virginia which is what the company advertise, car had 180k at the time. My father just drove it back to kansas from Maryland, he say he was getting 23-25 on regular unleaded.

The 4.6 mileage sounds about right. I glanced at mine the other day, and with mixed driving it was at 25.
I've driven my 5L G90 (2107) back and forth to FL a couple of times and I was getting about 25mph driving 80 mph using premium. Pretty good for that beast I think.

reporting in 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6L at 221k miles and still going strong. Last year, a family member took it to California and back, cross country is ok in a 221k Hyundai :D pretty reliable I would say. Still on original motors and transmission, although the transmission doesn't shift as smooth as before but I'm ok.

something to note, the 4.6L engine sounds a lot more quiet than my 5.0.

Shady, you've got me by about 15k. My 2011 4.6 has about 206k. It's my commuter car and ok on the daily 70 mile roundtrip, but I wouldn't venture much further. Check engine light has been on for about 3 yrs. Two mechanics and my tester say catalytic converters. One quote was $4k so not happening. A couple cans of magic juice turned the light off 2 yrs ago and I made it through NJ inspection. That didn't work this past April though. Engine seems strong and never a sulfur smell, buts it's near end of life. Trans has been flakey for at least 100k even after a flush and filter change.

I have a 5L Genesis G90 and I can't say that I notice that it is louder than the 4.6. Probably a lot better cabin soundproofing in the G90 so not a fair comparison. Hope the G90 lasts as long!

I have a 2012 hyundai genesis 5.0 r spec. The car is great I have replaced some gaskets had the ac compressor replaced. I have a power Commander it's lowered and I drive it like I stole it. She is really great and super quiet. Oh yea I almost forgot. She has 191,456 miles.
Good luck.

I only notice when outside, not inside. there is a ticking with the 5.0 part of the design 4.6 doesnt have this.

2014 Genesis with 192,800 miles.

did you flush the transmission? is this the 5.0 version?
Drained and flushed and serviced by the dealer at 86K miles. Searching for a new pan/filter combination for the next maintenance event. It has the ZF 8 speed but evidently there are two different series for the 2014 3.8 vehicles. Had the differential done as well and that will done again when the trans work is accomplished.

my 4.6 trans is bulletproof I would say, never flush or anything, a little rough shifting on cold days but nothing like a misshift. I'm scare to touch my 5.0 trans.

Gotcha. My owner's manual said to drain and service at 100K(that's when the warranty stopped) so I did mine early and no issues now at 192,900. Smooth shifting just like brand new. I previously owned a 2006 V6 Sonata with similar service requirements. Had the transmission drained and serviced at 76,000 miles then at 82,000 miles something happened and the transmission was bucking and acting up. Dealer asked if I used the manual shift gate as that seemed to be causing the issues. I told him no and that I had traded a manual gearbox car in for the automatic. Additionally, I said the car was new with the manual shift option so it didn't make a difference. New transmission installed and I never did another thing to it. Traded it with 255,000 miles for the 2014 Genesis I own now.

And to confirm yours is a V6 correct? I thought they switch to inhouse transmission for that year

My Genesis is the V6, 3.8L. Door tag shows October 21 2013 date but sold and registered as a 2014.

You are correct.

2012 - 2014 3.8, 5.0, R-Spec use 8-speed transmission built in house by Hyundai.

I have ZF 6-speed transmission in my 2011 4.6.
