If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Genesis G70 Oil and Filter change (how-to)

Looking to make your Genesis unique? Look no further than KDM Warehouse - where orders are shipped immediately!
Has anyone found brand filters for the 3.3 than WIX or OEM?

On a previous car (Audi) i used an oil extractor instead of draining from the pan. Anyone aware of any issues with going the same route on the G70 (3.3)?

I understand I still need to get under the car to change the filter.

EDIT: I ended up putting the car on ramps and draining the old fashioned gravity way. Next time I know where to better position the oil collection container -- that oil comes shooting right out something fierce. Even with cleanup, oil change took about an hour. Pretty easy. Used Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W30.

I had just finished changing my oil in my garage, I backed it in. Put the wife's car in the driveway to make room.

Next, a hail storm comes. Hail is getting larger as wife's car is plummeted. It'll be all MY fault if it gets hail damage!

So I dive into my car to pull it out of the garage so I can pull hers in, then pull mine in. I had forgotten I have the SEVEN QUARTS of dirty oil in the pan just ahead of my right front tire!

Yes the sh*t went -everywhere-. BTW, it was still hailing...

Sounds like something only I could do.

Oh crap what a mess. As long as my car was in the garage I’m afraid my wife would have been just SOL as I had a beer from within my garage. I’ve been caught on my Harley back in the day with hail and that stuff hurts so getting out to juggle cars around, nope.

OMG, Tinsley - that sounds like something I would do. What a mess! Sorry to hear that. The dealer's still doing my oil changes for free because I'm in my 1st 3 yrs, but they're using standard oil, the car doesn't call for synthetic (like my 2010 Camaro SS did - they spec'd full synthetic). But next time I'm going to furnish my own Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 and a Mobil 1 or K&N premium filter (they're good for a full year or 12,000 miles). I found both those brands of filters @ Advance Auto Parts. On the Camaro (6.2L 426 HP V-8) I used to change my oil only once a year - but I don't drive alot, I average 6500 miles a yr. But Synthetic is definitely the way to go, no matter what brand of filter you're using.....

CORRECTION!! Those K7N and Mobil 1 filters I viewed at Advance Auto are NOT the correct filters for the G70 3.3T. I just ordered a WIX cartridge on eBay, 19 bucks including shipping. Comes with a new filter cartridge O-Ring and a new washer for the oil pan drain plug.....

Wix for the 3.3 from Rockauto used to be under $7.00. Shipping is not free, but I ordered (4) last time from Rockauto and I’m thinking I paid roughly $30 total. That was a year ago and I still have (2) filters remaining. The Wix are made in S Korea which I thought was a strange coincidence since our engines are Korean too.

Yeah, thanks for the info, pulsar - I had totally forget to look @ Rock Auto. I've dealt with them before on Brembo brake pads for my 2010 Camaro SS, they're prices can't be beat. I got some premium Raybestos pads for about 2/3 of what Advance Auto (my usual go-to parts store, they're only about 5 minutes away).... I'll definitely look at RockAuto next time, and buy a few to minimize/spread out the shipping cost.

Gotta love these dealers. Our 2021 Santa Fe comes with some free oil changes. The manual recommends only synthetic but the dealer does not use synthetic. For an extra $45 they'll be happy to. You're supposed to do oil changes something like twice as often when using non-synthetic. Of course they won't cover the inbetween oil changes. I bet when you're paying for the service out of pocket they highly recommend synthetic.

^ gotta love the distinction between "required" and "recommended". dealers usually "recommend" the world, whereas the OM "requires" specific things. if something is required in the OM, the dealer is obligated to adhere to it.

So knowing that we have every 6k to go for maintenance, I’m old school and have always changed my oil every 4-5k. I don’t mind paying for an oil change but also see how pointless it is if I can just wait the extra 1k. I have been driving my 3.3t pretty aggressively though since hopping into it… should I then just take her in for a change at 3,500? Again this is the anal me who’s used to those 4-5k oil changes lol

^ not at all. lots of guys do the more frequent OCI out of habit. based on my annual mileage (not much) i qualify for one Genesis service a year. i supplement this with by paying for my own OCI at the 6 month mark - not at the dealer of course.

I’m in the severe schedule out here in Vegas. I’m at 15k miles and I’ve had probably 6 oil changes at this point which averages to about every 2.5k miles. All free at the dealer, all full synthetic as a free upgrade from the normal stuff. I barely do any driving, but my service advisor lets me do oil changes based more on timing, since I’ve had the car 2.5 years at this point. Maybe I’m lucky with my dealer, but more often oil changes shouldn’t be a hard thing to swing for them to pay

My dealer scheduled OCI is every 10,000 KMs. I checked my oil today and it was really dirty, not just dark.. so I felt it was time for a change. I built myself some homemade ramps and changed the oil but not the oil filter. Maybe it didn't technically need it but I feel better anyways!

Last but not least, I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 full synthetic oil.
After using oil, how do you feel about it ? Does that particular oil make a difference for your car in performance in a way ?

He's not on the forum anymore. He sold his car.

I use pennzoi platinum ultra and have since changing from factory oil. Only have 6500 on the odometer. First change at 1000 miles and 2nd at 6000 miles. With most synthetics not sure your really going to find much differences. I ran Mobil 1 in my G37 for 9 years. Would have loved to have looked inside that engine to see how clean, or not the inside was? Some synthetics use some trickery in claiming their oil is synthetic. Multi stage refining with petroleum oil allows some to claim synthetic for the molecular size by then has gotten so similar to pure synthetic they get to claim ‘synthetic’. PP ultra, being made from natural gas I’m figuring is 100% full synthetic for it’s not suppose to have any petroleum products at all in it. Just a guess on my part though. Price wise PP, Mobil 1 and Ultra and very competitive so use what your comfortable with. Not sure with normal driving any difference would be noticeable.
