  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Smart Trunk opening in the night

My understanding is you can't be charged for public drunkenness on your own private property.
Is there a law for private drunkenness on private property in your state? If so you do you live in CA ;)

As long as your not wearing a negligee and high heals have bottle of JD in one hand and a gun in the other you're probably ok.

yeah I live in CA, we have block parties all the time, never had an issue with drinking out front as long as we don't step off our property onto the public roadway

It's like 31 degrees out!

It's like 31 degrees out!

31° isn't cold. not below zero yet, I used to drive my convertible Camaro with the top down, down to 30°, only reason I stopped there is because the computer wouldn't allow the top to go down if it was colder than that.

31°, that's t-shirt and shorts weather.

@EdP Looks like @onmark has determined a workaround for the issue and "thrown in the towel" on resolving the issue. We may never have definitive proof on the root cause of the issue.

Do you want to call our bet null/void or "let it ride"/continue?
I'm amenable to either.
Yeah, looks like onmark took all the fun out of his problem. Lets call it void pending any new developments.

@EdP Our bet is officially cancelled. I'd consider renewing the bet if there are any new developments on the issue.

guess it's a difference in neighborhoods. I've "hung out" in my driveway, on my porch, and in my garage at night without being hassled by the police.

if it were me, I wouldn't be alone, I would likely be listening to a radio of some kind or watching a mini-tv and probably have a fire pit going, it's not like I would be slinking around in a black hoodie looking as if I was stalking someone..

I don’t see how your keys or any RF signal could have anything to do with the hood or the gas lid. Sounds like an electrical short.

Now that is strange. I can understand the trunk from an electronic pulse/signal of some sort as it is made to operate from the fob. The gas cap, not RF activated, but an electric pulse could still open it. Hood though, AFAIK is pure mechanical.

One time, easy to blame the local delinquents. Three times, difficult to fathom.

Today Coming Home While Vehicle In Motion, Trunk Popped As Well As Gas Cover Lid, Popped Open! Scarry If I had Trunk Full Of Things Could Have Fell Out & Caused A Wreck, Of course Should I Take It In For Diagnosis, it Won't happen.

I find that odd, because the trunk on my G80 will not open if the vehicle is in motion, even 1 mph, I have tried, pulling into my kids school and up to the drop off area I will reach for the button before coming to a complete stop and it will not pop open, even if I am creeping along at idle. as soon as I come to a complete stop it pops open. Never before.

sounds like you have a ground short at the control panel (button panel).

I've come out of the house three times in the mornings to find the trunk open. I took it to the dealer and they said the "latch was out of alignment" and ordered a new one.
They installed it yesterday, I was awakened at 3am by Police to tell me my trunk was open again. Anyone have this problem my Smart Trunk is not the one that power closes.
I'm currently having that issue, what was the fix?

I had this same issue earlier this year and it seems to have resolved itself. Did you find a solution?

I am sorry, but if you want peace of mind I would disengage this feature until when and if Genesis comes up with a fix. I have yet to use this feature.

I had a Buick LaCross that had this issue
and I was not the only one. Buick changed the way the key fob functioned, change out the wiring harness and the last thing they changed was the latch mechanism which looked like it may have resolved the issue, but I traded the car shortly after that repair was done.

It was believed that cars that had this issue were picking up the signal from someone near by using a key fob or some sort of signal from off a cell tower.

I once closed the trunk on an owners car which had two fairly new sets of golf clubs in it and it was also raining outside. I left the owner a note to call me which he did. He confirmed that he too had the random trunk issue and was very appreciative that I closed the trunk. I informed the owner of what steps Buick was taking to try to resolve the issue and advised him to take his car into service so that they could check it out.

I actually saw someone pull out of a service station and the trunk just randomly opened.
This is not just a Genesis problem but other brands have experienced the same you just do not hear much about it as it is a strange phenomenon that does not occur with every car.

Please note the cars that I mentioned just had the basic remote trunk open so this random trunk open can occur with whatever means is used to open the trunk, whether it be smart trunk or just using the remote.

Good Luck 🍀
