If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Head Unit Problems

Amp needs to be swapped.

I've had my Genesis 4.6 w/ Nav package for a little over a year. I have had the head unit replaced twice and the screen replaced once.

I have no control over when the AM/FM, XM, Disc, or Bluetooth works or not. It seems that when I start the vehicle if the radio comes on its all good. I shut the car down, fill up with gas, start the car.......no radio, disc, bluetooth. Get to my destination and shut the car down. Get up in the morning, start the car and everything works.

I have long travel periods almost every weekend (about 250 miles) and you'll never guess when the radio decides it's not going to work.

I do have a cell phone synced and have read in these forums that that may be the cause. Can anyone tell me if removing the bluetooth device will stop the radio from its intermittent performance.

I don't know in what state you reside, but in some states the lemon law extends for two year on new autos. Go to the largest law office in your city, they will have someone who has had some experience. Remember you have a 40K auto.

*SIGH*

I had my first "issue" with the head unit today. I got in my car and it wouldn't start! Dome lights wouldn't work, no radio, blue tooth, DVD/CD/USB and a blank NAV screen and way too much else to list. The smart key wouldn't lock or unlock the doors......I noticed a blue LED blinking at me and it was the smart key socket, so I put the key into the socket and the key started the vehicle. The car drove fine, but no electrical basically, so nothing worked electronically.

To save a long ass post, I checked a crap load of fuses to see if one had blown, and after too long I checked the breaker fuse located in the driver side fuse panel, and it was a little loose. Just by touching it everything turned back on and works great!

Maybe this post will save someone else some headache if they every have the same symptoms.

Thanks for sharing the info, Scott!
I'll look for the breaker fuse if this ever happens to mine.

No problem. The breaker fuse is the fuse surrounded by the yellow holder, and by pullng the yellow holder, the fuse is removed. This is for basically storing the vehicle for extended periods of time, such as for me since I store it in my garage for the winter. Pulling this fuse will prevent battery discharge will the car is not operating.

I have had my Genesis for two years with no problems at all on the head unit.

On Monday when driving to work, I was switching between AM and FM when the audio locked up. I couldn't switch it to disk or the USB drive, and a call I received on my cell would not come through the blue tooth.

Called the dealership to set up a time to have it looked at but when I got back in the car everything worked normally.

After reading a few of the posts on this thread for the first time tonight, I really hope I don't experience this issue again..

Haven't been here in awhile and surprised to see this problem not resolved.

Got my Genny back In Oct. 2008 and experienced nav/radio/phone problems within days of ownership. You guys know the drill...but in my case, there really wasn't anybody else with the same problems yet.

It was in and out the shop, head unit replaced (as well as other tried remedies) and it happened again.

They took my car back and replaced it with another identical car.

Within 4 days, it happened to the second car.

By this time though, they seemed to get a handle on it, and the amp was replaced and I've never had an issue again...and I have 30,000+ mile on her.

Is this happening on 2010 models, too, or just the 2009...

2009, mfg date 8/08. I've also always maintained my XM subscription. Dealer and Hyundai Regional Service have been unable to repair. If there was a sure fix, we would not be discussing. I would like to know if there is a mfg date when this problem no longer occurs.

Has anybody had these types of problems in the 2010 or are they all 2009?

Thanks.

I took my car in because I had no output from my speakers off and on. The new amp went in and my XM stopped working because the amp had a new XM I'd. Coincedently my voice control also stopped working. I would hit the button and no chime then the whole system would go south. Once I got the XM authorized on the new amp everything started working again including the voice controls. Now my trial is up on XM and now my voice controls don't work. If I try to use voice control by hitting the button my audio output stops working. I know for a fact that if I subscribe to XM then everything will start working again. Seems to be software related. I'm not convinced that a new head unit will fix this issue.

I've dropped my new 2011 V8 today for the similar problems (happened about 3 times during my first month of ownership):
- no traffic information available
- no XM radio available
- XM channel would reset to "1" after the car is restarted
- no sound coming of the speakers (happened only 1 time)
The dealer is looking into these issues...

This is a absolutely fantastic car which I love to drive. I wish there was a TSB for these bugs, or an updated part available. What I can see from this forum is that so far the root cause for these problems was not 100% determined. Many people posting here about their amplifiers and head units were replaced many times without fully fixing the problem.

If you do a youtube search for Genesis XM DIS you'll come across two videos I made. One with XM and one without. Was this your problem?

no, this is different for me. I still have the trial subscription and everything normally works flawlessly, except a few times when my car "lost the XM radio" (no XM channels, no traffic info available). After the car sat in garage, each time the problem would be cured by itself.

Hyundai tech told me all my problems with the car were related to the amplifier unit, which was replaced today. It's to early to tell if it fixed the problem, since they were so intermittent. All is working great so far.

I have not been able to make A2DP and AVRCP work on my 2011 V8 Genesis. Did anyone else has been able to make A2DP work on any V8, any year?

well I got one story mine loses its phone book I put 96 numbers by hand because nobody could tell me how to get a blackberry contacts into the car --so I sit there one at a time and enter then it goes 0/200 let it rest (like parked a few hours) and start up bingo it's back ! it happen a few times, called dealer and was told it's new and rebooting ha,ha,ha--a few days later it loses all sound nothing xm cd ipod am/fm --one big fat zero again told it was rebooting got the sound to work by turning off radio and wait a few mins.--call dealer again now they tell me to come in for a upgrade takes 20-25 mins they got some new cds that they can upgrade the system -do I want to wait? or take loaner ...I don't want to come back so I wait 2 hours they tell me that I need a new head unit for the car ....it's 5 weeks old and I have been to the dealer more than 10 times --they are very nice to me just hope that this is the end of making there place my second home.....I LOVE THE CAR ,BUT WONT PUT UP WITH THIS KIND OF STUFF MUCH MORE...I understand new cars have sometimes the need to be worked on to get the bugs out --but twice a week to the dealer in the first 5 weeks --a friend of mine leased a E550 benz 4 months ago not that much more in a lease $125.00 a month --only to dealer once for oil change NOT ONE THING WRONG WITH HIS CAR --LOVES IT THINKS I WAS CRAZY TO LEASE A HYUNDAI....I'M STILL WAITING FOR NEW HEAD UNIT TO COME=== REBULIT ???? While this may not be an answer to this problem, I do know that the Head Unit has a "Variant Coding" in the "Engineering Mode". This has to be set when a head unit is replaced. One part of this coding has an item where "XM Radio" is turned ON or OFF. My theory is that if the dealer technician will turn this OFF, when the free XM expires, problems might be avoided.
