In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I just bought a V8 (Tech package). After 500 miles (less than a week) I began to have Battery issues.

First the car would not start. The starter solinoid clicks but not enough juice to turn over. A jump starts the car but the battery does not maintain power. I tested the alternator and the tester shows that it is recharging.

I also have had XM radio shut off, radio / navi sound go dead, navigation resetting the programmed route while driving.

Even after recharging to 100%, the batery only has enough juice to start once or twice. This morning, I found something curious. While recharging the battery (charger indicator showed about 90% power) I opened the doors. Immediately the battery dropped to 20% (about 9 volts). As soon as I open the the door the voltage drops. It must be a electronic / computer issue.

As today is a holiday, I will be visiting the dealer tommorow. It's getting me nervous. Did I get a lemon?

If anyone else out ther have found a solution, or can advise what to do, please let me know. I will share any finding I get. I hope the dealer knows what they are doing. At least, I feel a little better that this may not be an isolated issue as I have seen other forums describe the same problems.

Hey Dpark02, hopefully you have gotten your battery issue fixed. There are quite a few electrical draws on the Genesis sedan with all the gadgets we have. I have the 3.8 liter premium with Tech Package. I have 30,000 miles and no problems with the battery at all. When they were checking into a different problem, they mentioned a "ground strap" TSB. That usually is a cable attached to the electrical system and the way you described the Battery taking a charge and zonking out immediately afterwards, describes a classic defective battery situation. If a cell blows inside the battery, it looks and acts just fine but when you need it, it has no charge under any load even after a 24 hour charge. I believe the battery is covered in the first 12 to 24 months. It is expensive because it is gigantic compared to most automobiles. If it went dead after 4 to 12 hours after a full charge, then it would seem more like a drain on it you can't see like lights not turning off.

Anyway, have it looked at at the Hyundai dealer. I don't think anyone OEM's the battery but Hyundai.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Passenger side front headlamp housing has been continually fogged with moisture after the first week of getting the car home. I presume there's a sealing problem with the headlight cover. I'll take it in under warranty and get it fixed this week.

I'm also getting a lightly-audible squeak when the steering wheel moves out of the way after I shut the car off. Interesting that I don't hear anything when I start the car and the steering wheel returns to the 'drive' position. I will monitor this one and deal with it if the condition worsens.

Here is my latest issue...I put it on youtube for proof to Hyundai!

At about 1500 miles I began to hear an odd droning sound when decelerating from 50 mph or higher (described in a separate thread). Yesterday I took the car in for initial service (3750 miles). The tech heard the sound and reported he'd never observed it before. He called Hyundai and they advised him that the transmission needs to be replaced. I don't know if there's a TSB on this but will find out. Anyway, they're going to fix it and I have no complaints - this is a GREAT car at an amazing price.

Wow, that ain't good.
I also thought for a moment that it was the radar detector.
Does it happen during CD/mp3 playbacks, or is it just the radio station?

Dan

Hey Dan...it happens at random times, random days, and random temps.

However, when it does start...it will usually do it for about 20 min and then quit for a while.

I thought the radar detector or my iPhone was the culprit so I unplugged the detector and turned my phone to airplane mode. Needless to say, it still did it here about 30 min. ago.

The funny thing is that for the next 3 weeks it probably wont do it at all...hence the reason for the video.

Well, we will see what they say!

That should be annoying as hell. Does it happen during CD playbacks as well?

I heard that the launch of the Genesis was pushed back a little due to delay in developing the DIS/Lexicon system.
I think we're seeing the results of premature product development.

I agree, after a few weeks of ownership it's pretty clear to me that the DIS is the weak link in this car. It's slow, the UI isn't very well laid out, and there are just too many issues being reported. This is one area where my last Infiniti was definitely better.

When first starting up in the Morning, most times I hear a rapid clicking noise and the Gas Tank needle vibrates and so does the Temp Gauge needle. They stop after about 5-10 seconds and work O.K. all day after that.

I didn't drive the car for about 10 days, then it had a dead Battery. I recharged the Battery in my garage with a old home Battery Charger and it's been O.K. since. I have not let it sit more than 2-3 days since . Was that normal ?

Not normal... You should be able to let your car sit for longer than 10 days....
Sometimes my Genesis sits for 7-10 days... I've never had a problem with my battery. If you do a search, there are other people with the same problem you have.

Mine can sit in the garage for well over a week and will start just fine. In fact, I've started it just to roll it 25 feet into the driveway, rolled the windows part-way down, cranked up a car race on XM, and shut the car off... while I did other work in the garage. Let the race run - restarting the DIS system after it automatically shuts off after an hour a time or two - and then start the car to back it into the garage again. Then it sits a week. Still started perfectly fine; I've done this twice now. The factory battery can thus:
* start the engine twice
* run the DIS system for a few hours (with the LCD turned off via one of the system options... though it still is ON for the nag screen every few minutes)
* sit for a week
During that time, the alternator was working maybe a total of 30 seconds - not enough to recharge the battery any significant amount - certainly not enough to make up for those two engine start loads.
* After a week, start the car and take it for a spin.

The DIS system remains in a semi-ON standby state each time the car is shut off or whenever a key fob action is taken... for something like 20 minutes. That way it re-starts more quickly if you're just running into the 7-11 or whatever for a minute. (it'd be nice if it skipped the regular start-up nag screen for this at least!) If the DIS is totally OFF, it returns to this semi-ON state in anticipation you'll be using the car in a moment when key fob action is taken, doors are opened, etc. So repeated access to the vehicle while it's parked probably gobbles up more battery energy than you might expect from simply opening the doors and triggering the interior lights for a few seconds over and over.

Well I am at about 25,000 miles. I consider the car to be quite reliable but I have had various issues with electronics.
- Park sensor replacement
- Check engine light causing 2 different visits to dealer (ecm problems), also caused engine to run rough at idle and go into safety mode one time
- had the center controller dial replaced
- on occasion the xm radio freezes up if you change channels once too often; need to reboot/restart the car to fix.

I am curious to see what they put in the 2011 model!

I detected a peculiar noise at about 3,000 miles (described in http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=5237). Took to dealer, they didn't recognize it and called Hyundai, who advised them to replace the transmission. They replaced it and all is well. There is no TSB on this problem, and they won't know what the problem was until the engineers disassemble to trans and examine it.

I'm guessing this was just a random fluke; in any case, I was not inconvenienced at all and have not lost any confidence in the car: I still love it.:D

Here is a new one.

I got in the car to go to work this morning and my RADIO KNOB IS MISSING????

GONE...I looked everywhere and its just plain gone??? Maybe it caught flight when I had all my windows open yesterday...who knows...

I dont even use the thing. I use the steering wheel controls.

Only issue I have experienced lately is in the rear interior LED "dome" lamps either flickering or not coming on at all. I simple fix is to turn off "door" on overhead console and press again. This seems to be a temporary fix all.

I believe there was an owner who had the same problem and dealer replaced the switch assembly.
He mentioned something about a loose connection.
Go see the dealer.
