  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Downloaded the new software update for my 2023 GV80 via USB stick

The car does have Over the Air (OTA) update capability (It is in the settings menu under setup->General->SW info/Update), but I am not sure if the owner has to launch it manually or if it does it on its own.

I don't believe the OTA capability is activated for this car, by Genesis, yet

Yesterday I received an email from mapnsoft about the first 4 issues in my list above that they said they were fixing. They now say they are only fixing issues 1 & 2 in my list above. Items 3 & 4 have to be referred to either the dealer or Genesis. (In previous email they already told me that item 5 has to go to dealer or Genesis.)

I do not like that the vehicle owner cannot know whether Genesis or mapnsoft is responsible for fixing any given issue. It creates a lot of confusion when you complain to one and they send you to the other. This is the old shell game like you could run into years ago when you took the car in for tire shake. The dealer says its the tires and the tire company says it is the car. That approach never resulted in anything getting fixed.

Genesis needs to take full ownership of issues for the customer. If the map software is the problem, let Genesis take it to the map company not the customer. One stop trouble reporting!! Not "Guess who to refer it to, and we'll tell you if you guessed right"

In my car, the OTA setup item says it is "available", just under the OTA item entry. I'm not really sure what that means.

I have a 2021 GV80 3.5L. While I'm familiar with software updates for PCs, Macs, iPads and such, I'm a little confused about the Genesis updates. First, there seems to be little or no information about "why" the update is to be made: what are the 'look and feel' improvements and what are the safety-related or critical updates. Second, there also seems to be little or no information what changes are included in an update. If an update has changes to both the map and OS packages, the changes in each should be described separately.

I haven't yet tried to update with the Oct?/Nov? updater, but the other day I noticed an abrupt change in the cluster: Instead of speed and RPM indicators showing in blue, it has changed to a (what I consider) very pleasant white-ish and yellow-ish dials. And whereas the previous speedometer was marked every 5mph, this new look is marked every 1mph.

Does the car update all by itself. without a human initiating it?
Feature updates are usually pretty well documented at the update site. See: Notice | Official Genesis Navigation Update Website

Can you take picture of instrument panel, would be interested in seeing those changes (I have a 2021 3.5 prestige as well)

I think OTA is available (tho random), but no matter what, I think it always ask if you want the update.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Opened a case with mapnsoft 10/30 and sent a few reminders but no response to date.

For my car,map updates have all been with the usb stick, probably because it is very large and will eat bandwidth. But I did get a over the air update for something in the entertainment system. two to four months back. I forget exactly what it was for. A lot of others got the ota as well.

Did you have to launch the OTA update or did it just install on its own?

Someone posted either in this thread or another one that you can not go backward with updated. They seemed to know what they were talking about.
I believe that was me. The fine print on the software update sight clearly states that the update may also remove somethings that cannot be put back once they are removed.

The OTA Software Update is automatically installed. Once successfully installed you have to select UPDATE and the software update is then downloaded.

The problem is the OTA Software Update install is sometimes unsuccessful which means you have to order the update or purchase a USB stick and down load the software update from the software sight and then take the USB and do the Update from your car.

For me, I got a notice on my screen telling me there was an OTA update. I followed the instructions and installed it. But I didn't do it right a way. I waited to see if anyone reported bugs. When I saw there were no issues, I went to the menu and had it install the update. It took a while and I thought it would be finished by the time I had taken my trip but it was not. It did finished after I had turned off the car as when I started it the next day, it told me that the update had been installed. It also told me what it was, but it was very broad. , like it said radio has been updated.... But I don't really remember what.

The new map update is still sitting on my desk in a usb drive as a lot of people have been complaining about it so I thought I would wait for the revised version. But I have a 2021 and from what I have seen, it does not screw mine up.

OK Genesis USA--If we install an update and it takes away features we paid for and originally expect to have-then the repair update should repair and replace ALL these features to total customer satisfaction. Your customers need not take our cars to the dealerships and dealers need not have to replace things your update screwed up. It's time and money for us that Genesis created/caused.
I'm a brand new gv80 owner and do not need to spend my time chasing Genesis finger-pointing crap! I love the car-but I cannot be a repeat and loyal customer under these circumstances. Get this fixed immediately.

Last over-the-air update I did changed the behavior of the idle start/stop. Can't remember the last time it activated. It just seems to auto disable itself all the time now. Was incredibly annoying before... so much so I considered trying the bread clip trick. Maybe they use that for updating modules other than the infotainment computer that don't require as much data. 20 gigs is a lot to transfer over a 4G LTE connection.

I do not believe the OTA would have changed the operation of the stop/start feature in your car as that would not be with in their scope but rather something that could be going on with the stop start feature that perhaps service needs to take a look at. MapNSoft Software update only deal with Map, Navigation, some Audio and Climate Control. This information was based on a conversation that I had with MapNSoft and under the circumstances I was dealing with I found what they were saying to be true.

Please be reminded that the Stop/Start feature only operates under certain conditions. I have seen times were my Stop/Start may not kick in for a period of time.

Right, MapNSoft doesn't touch anything but the infotainment computer/module. So that's all MapNSoft is qualified to talk about. There are dozens of other modules in the car that occasionally need updating and it would be much more cost effective if Genesis could update them over-the-air rather than require everyone to go to a dealer for the update.

Thanks for that info. It helps general understanding about where the mapnsoft and genesis line is drawn.
I would still be confused about who to report a specific issue to. For example, mapnsoft has told me in an email that they are responsible for correcting the problem where the "speed limit sign" that is displayed in the HUD has totally disappeared with the latest map update for the 2023 GV80. There is also another speed limit sign displayed in the cluster next to the speedometer. (The latest update caused this speed limit sign to stop turning red when you are driving over the speed limit). Mapnsoft has told me that they have nothing to do with this "speed limit sign", and I have to refer to Genesis.
So, they are responsible for speed limit sign in HUD, but not the one in the cluster. Go figure.
The best model would be for Genesis to be the one stop for all trouble reporting. They are in the best position to know who needs to fix something than the customer.

Seems to me this whole issue is a result of MapNSoft not knowing that other modules were changed due to the chip shortage. Since the infotainment computer contains the 4G LTE modem and that's where the speed limit data comes from (as opposed to systems that use the camera to actually read the signs) it's responsible for sending that info to the other module(s) involved. So what we have here is a case of "the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing", to use an old expression. What I know for sure is you have to pay Genesis not MapNSoft when the freebie period expires, so ultimately it's their responsibility to sort this issue out with their vendor. It shouldn't be my problem. At least not if they want to get $99/year out of me. I'll gladly send that money to MapNSoft instead if Genesis would prefer I deal with them directly.

FWIW though, I'm not having any major issues with the update on my 2021.

So my car actually reads the traffic signs with the front windshield camera. Perhaps that is why mapnsoft is responsible for the speed limit sign in the HUD and Genesis is responsible for the one in the cluster. But that doesn't make sense because they both must be using the same data source - the front camera. Otherwise you might see two different speed limits in the HUD and cluster. The speed limit from the camera reading posted signs will not always match the speed limit in the navigation database, which is often out-of-date and wrong.

The map speed is priority. The camera one only displays if there is no speed limit available from the map. This issue with the hud may not be a mapsoft issue. It could be the wrapper that integrates all the data for the HUD. This would be on Genesis end. They need to work together to fix the issue.
