If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody buy new 18" tires for their Genesis Sedan yet?

So I just got mine 4.6 White/saddle on Friday. The tires didn't bother me that much, but reading all negative feedback I'm thinking about changing them right away. also, just was wandering, is it possible that those Dunlops in 2009-2010 were just defective? :)
No, they are not defective. The Dunlops received equally bad reviews at Tirerack.com.

Manufacturers select OEM tires for a lot of reasons, which may be substantially different than the criteria we would use when selecting a tire. I recently replaced my Dunlops at about 22K due to some irregular tire wear (probably not completely the fault of Dunlops), and the Michelin Primacy XMV4's I have now are much better (in particular, my new tires are much smoother), but I don't think the Dunlops are so bad that I would replace them on a brand new car (unless I got something for the old ones). One of the main complaints is how fast they wear, and that is not a concern for you at this point.

I had idea in mind to sell Dunlops on craigslist, but with such crappy reviews all over the internet I'm not sure who's going to buy them and at what price. Anyways, 22k can take 2 years, I live in OC so wet weather and snow are not a big deal (usually), sound isolation in car is awesome, so maybe I'll just let them be.

I think your best bet would be just to run them as long as you can. Mark is right about the tires. I got 19,000 miles out of them with aggressive driving, and I'm driving a summer tire now that blow the Dunflops off the planet. I run Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires (Y rated) and they have much better tread wear then the Dunflops and have a lot more traction.

Did you get your tires?

Had them installed on Friday, and the difference is very noticeable. The car tracks straighter, and significantly less noise in the cabin. Have not tried the handling aspect, but since it's pretty damp up here, it could happen at any minute.

Paid $840 out the door for the set.

Hi Guys , a month ago i bought a set of Pirelli PZero Nero 235/50/18 at tirerack for $ 640 at my door, after 600 miles i can tell they are very good in both , dry and wet weather, so far. I do noticed a big difference on the noise level , the reduction is so drastic that now THE FAMOUS LOW REV HORRIBLE ENGINE NOISE( on my v6 sedan) is more noticeable . But back to the original point , the grip is much better and steering response did improve.

I think you will also see improved gas milage. I have 700 miles on the tires and I am getting 21.5mpg city right now.

Good Luck..........

I just got my new Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 tires installed yesterday. They are definitely quieter, and ride better than the OEM tires. Traction is great also. If you are looking for a summer tire, I'd recommend them. Time will tell on the treadlife.

I put one of my Dunlops on my scraped up rim in the trunk for a full size spare. I love that there's room there for it!

Yeah, and they should have supplied a full sized spare as they do in other markets!

I just put new tires on yesterday. I went to Sam's Club and bought Fierce Instint by Fierce which is made by Dunlop which is owned by GoodYear. Confused yet? I went with the same size 235/50/18 on new TSW Cadwell Chrome rims. I paid $137 a tire and $16 for mounting and balancing.

Just replaced my Dunlops with the new Falken Azenis TP722, which is Falken's first ultra high performmance all season tire. I was told by the Manager at Discount Tire that this was Falken's attempt to level the playing field with the Conti Extreme Contact DWS and that they had succeeded. They cost about $100 less but have a 60,000 mile treadlife instead of Conti's 50,000. Anything is an improvement over the Duncraps but so far I've been very pleased.

I have a question on these - The 235/50/R18's are listed at 440AA, which is only a 40,000 mile treadlife warranty, even though the Discount Tire website says 60,000 miles on the main page. Did you go with a different size to get the 60,000 miles?

I just bought a set of these for my car as well. Happy with them so far, but I've only put about 400 miles on them.

I just wanted to add to this thread that I have run through 2 sets of tires in less than 35K miles on my 2009 Genesis Sedan 4.6. The OE Dunlops were garbage. I replaced those with Pirelli P Zeros and those also wore horribly. The road noise was very bad. I just put Kumho Ecsta Platinum LX tires on the car and am very impressed thus far. The car rides noticeable better (it is a Grand Touring Tire after all). Also, I am going to use one of the old Perelli's as a full size spare and the tire (without rim) was in the back of my car for a day or so. I think there is something to previous posts on this thread that the Genesis would ride better with the weight of a full size spare in the car. Anyway, long story short, I think this car will ride better with Grand Touring tires and you will get vastly better tread wear. The car will eat up performance tires - which is true from what I hear about BMWs and other high HP/torque cars.

http://www.tirerack.com has great info and I chose to go with a w rated Grand Touring all season. Pick your the category of tire then take a look at the test, surveys and reviews of tires in that category. This has been very helpful to me.

Got my 2011 V8 a couple of weeks ago. I've already replaced with stock tires with the Conti ExtremeContact DWS (leased, so I figured I'd keep the Dunlops in the basement, put them back on before I turn it in). I'd try the Conti's in the snow, but my driveway is sloped, and sometimes when it ices over, I've had to get a running start to get into the garage (with my G35X). I don't want to find out that the Conti's are NOT ok by running into the side of the garage... :-)

Anyway, I'm starting my research on snow tires now. When I check on tirerack.com for snows to fit the stock 18-inch wheels, it only shows 2 tires that will fit, and I've seen neither of them in any of the discussions here. I'm not a big tire guy, so I really don't know what sizes besides the 235-50-18 can be expected to fit the wheel.

Not looking to get new wheels since it is a lease. Discount tire charges about $50 to swap 'em out every season.

Anyway, just looking for SIZE options that will fit on the stock wheel.

The Discount Tire website usually will show you alternate tire sizes that will fit your wheel.

Hmmm... It gives a list of alternates that will fit my CAR, but has a disclaimer saying I may need new wheels...

I guess the easier way to ask is, has anyone gotten Blizzaks or X-Ice for the stock V8 wheels, and if so, what size are they.... Neither of those come in 235-50-18 as far as I can tell.

A disclaimer just means that Discount Tire has corporate lawyers protecting themselves against ridiculous lawsuits.

If you find out your wheel dimensions (rim width in particular), and then look at the detail specs of the tire (may need to go to tire manufacture website), it will tell you the acceptable wheel rim widths for that that tire (tires will usually fit a range of rim widths).

In the 2009 Genesis Owner's Manual (Chapter 8, Specs), the 18" wheel is specified as 7.5J×18, which means the rim width is 7.5. Don't know what model year you have or whether that has changed.

I just put on a set of Conti Extreme Contact DW's - $1100 installed and road force balanced at my local Goodyear dealer. These are great tires (for me, anyway) - quiter and smoother riding than the Dunlops and perfect for my (conservative) driving style.

I've been running on Continental DW rubber for ~6k miles now and heartily concur. In addition, I've found the superior wet traction has provided added peace of mind this winter.

I've heard that the 2012 Genesis comes with Michelin tires and an improved ride. If anyone comes across the exact specs of the new tires being put on the upgraded 18-inch wheels, please post them...thanks!
