In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Genesis Wing Emblem Installation Process

Not all of us are lucky enough to live in Texas, Tex. Good luck trying to rip off the logo on a cold trunk. You might end up with more than the logo.

JW:

Regarding the pins/holes mismatch, are the wings pins larger in diameter than the holes left in the trunk after the flying H removal, or is it the pins don't line up with the existing holes? In other words, if you had to drill, is it make the existing holes a little bigger or drill two new holes.

Before you undertook this, did you inquire what the dealer's body shop guys would charge for the job?

Thanks!

The holes on the trunk matched up exactly with the wings on my 2012 so no drilling or grinding needed. May be different on other years or may be using wrong wings. Good luck

The wings are great. I was going to have the dealer put them on when I bought/ picked up my car, but lo and behold, they were on the car when I got there, complimetns of the dealer! the funny thing is abut a week later, a girl I work with said to me "I can't believe you bought a Bentley!" It was a great laugh when I told her the truth!!!

Anyone know what THIS is?

QUESTION: I don't think I've read ANYWHERE on how exactly to remove the wheel center caps... can someone walk me through it real quick, if you don't mind?

Is it simply "heat for a minute or two", and "pry it off with your fingers"? Or more involved than that? I'm talking about the center caps, not the 18" wheel covers. Those grooved tabs on the back make me think it's not gonna be that easy....

Thanks!

If you are referring to the metal center "H" on 18" wheels then yes just heat with hair dryer or place in oven at about 175 degrees F. There are several threads on this regarding replacing the H with the wings.

No - these are the center caps on the 19" R Spec wheels.

Same thing actually. Did it to mine. I just took the caps off the 18 wheels and put the wing on the R Spec wheel. Same size center...That is, the center of the center cap:D

Thanks Scott - the question is HOW did you take off the caps? Did you have to heat them? Use anything to pry them off with? Brute force? Your nails?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

Try this link, it was a big help for me.

To answer your question, I used a heat gun to remove the flying H off - once it was hot, I used a tiny flathead screw driver to pry the piece off, but I did apply some electrical tape to the center cap, so I didn't damage either piece.

Bout twenty minutes for all 4 wheels.

I had the dealer remove the front wing emblem and the GENESIS letters on the back. I left the 4.6 and the rear wing. The 4.6 looks good, IMO, by itself but the quality of the numbers is poor - there's paint bleed on the side.

I'm going to replace the dealer plate frame when I find a quality one if anyone can recommend one - every one at the auto parts stores was plastic or really flimsy metal.

I bought the 4.6 18" winged wheel centers from eBay for $115 and even though I think that's overpriced I think they look great.

Thanks, stone... I've had my wheel center caps since last April LOL.

I just don't know how hard it is to remove the OEM's.

Come over and I'll do it for you:cool:

Along with info on this process I saw this posted this morning by 'Ruissimo':

I've had really good luck painting the black plastic dealer frame with chrome spray paint. It moves the match of the plate color very close to the chrome already on the vehicle. John

I found a nice polished stainless steel frame at my local Pep Boys.

Hmm... must've been sleep-web-browsing-and-forum-posting again... 'cause I don't remember posting anything this morning. Except this.

Re: Genesis Wing Emblem & other ammenities

I just did this with my new/used '09 Genesis, it totally changes the look of the car and can't recommend it more highly. My friend who'd already done his Genesis helped me with mine. I also went on eBay and bought the steering wheel logo, and center wheel caps...which only cost me about $45 total in addition to the hood and trunk badge.

I also had my windows tinted (3M CS tint) to 35 which is the darkest legal tint in my state.

Do yourself a favor, put about $400 in to your car to do all of this and you'll be VERY happy you did when you look at the final product.

I'll post some pictures later this week so you can make your own opinion.
