  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

2011 Sonata Limited w/Nav

2008 Sonata with 61k.

I had 2 cars I replace to get my Genesis:

1. 1995 Z28 Camaro ( I built it and raced it)
2. 2000 Mitsubi Eclipse GT

bought an Rspec.

1999 BMW 540i 6 speed almost 180,000 miles

a few things I miss:
-snug side bolsters
-the 6 speed manual (paddles on the genny would have been nice)
-being able to use the THREE seat memory setting anytime (not just in park). On a long trip, shifting to another preset was nice.
-interior lighting at night (those subtle directional lights were a nice touch)
-audio processing modes (concert, hall, live, etc)
-auto up/down on all windows, not just the front
-the ride was nice
-nice angel eyes lights (I wish that Genny LED strip worked with the DRL)

things I won't miss:
-brake dust
-non-cooled front seat
-tight back seat (compared to Genny .. although it was pretty tolerable)
-parts prices (actually it was pretty reliable until the last 2 years when it was really getting old)
-took awhile to cool the cabin in Texas summers
-speed bumps had to be taken real slowly, the genny's stiffer suspension seems to soak them up a bit better (oddly). Kind of a thunking over them vs rolling over them at pedestrian speeds.
-seat wouldn't fold down, at least I have a passthru now
-valve cover gaskets (the V8's were not that reliable in this respect)
-radiator (2 in the time I owned it..... c'mon, really!)
-CD's in the trunk changer

This is my first Hyundai. I saw the 2013 on the showroom floor and had to get it. I traded a 2001 GMC 1500 for it. No regrets on that trade!

2003 BMW 745i :D

Hey, we traded a scion TC 08, 60k on the clock. Hated the noisy low profile tires..
12' genesis 6 cyl, the car moves!
The wife did all the driving, ( drove santa fe, vera cruz as well..had to ask her to consider the Genesis) ... i didnt want to drive as i wouldve bought, then and there. She drove it and.. Bought it then and there.:D

Happens like that sometimes.

I replaced my 98 Lexus LS 400 (had it 6 years and loved it) with the 2012 Genesis with tech and premium packages. I'm still trying to figure out all the "goodies!" It had 18 miles on it when I bought it and now has 250. Love it!

I bought a 2012 Genesis 4.6 to replace my 2003 X-type and 2003 S-type R Jaguars. I'd never considered a Hyundai before, but a friend of mine bought one and has been very pleased with it. I figure, with the warranty, the Genesis is going to save money in repair costs (compared to keeping the Jaguars). Whilst I miss the Jaguars, the Genesis is winning me over. It reminds me very much of my old 1992 Seville (this is a favourable comparison). I do have two other vehicles, which I'm keeping for emotional reasons. But, the Genesis is the car I drive most.

I looked at the X-Type when shopping the car I bought 10 years ago... it was a bit too small for my needs at the time, but I LOVED the looks of it (red with dove interior).

How was the X-Type maintenance-wise? It probably would've ended up costing me way less than my '02 Passat did over 10 years!

I just replaced my 2011 Genesis 4.6 for 2012 5.0 R-Spec and i love it. Much better ride a little stiffer and the handling is better but not much of a difference off the start but getting from 30 to 100 is much faster. I love to push it and have not really pushed it hard yet because it only has 400miles. I did pull away from a BMW 330I on the highway 1 week after i bought it we were getting on the highway at about 50MPH and we punched and i left him looking at my rear window. I got Black on Black with 20in Black & chrome Lorenzos and Falken tires with wings back and front. It looks hot and its fast best car i've ever had by far.

Must post pics at once.

Jaguars, like most English automobiles, are expensive to maintain. I bought it used (it's a 2003 with 120,000, I paid about seventy-five hundred for it), and spent about five thousand on it on repairs. I spent way too much on the X-type maintaining it, I won't do that again.

I have replaced my 2008 F150 with my first hyundai vehicle. 2012 Genesis Coupe R Spec 2.0t

I commute 102 miles (mostly hiway) a day. I was driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 with Hemi V8. It was a very nice vehicle with heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats. Panoramic Sunroof.Ok stereo with seperate subwoofer. Basically, it was loaded. I was only getting 17 mpg (combined) with midgrade gas. Test drove the 2013 Azera and just wasn't impressed with the ride. Wife wanted me to test drive the white Genesis 3.8 (premium w/Tech package) they had. WOW. Traded the Jeep in 2 days later. I love driving to work (but I love driving home more).

2006 Sonata V6 LX was my first Hyundai , great daily commuter car.
2009 Azera Limited, was a wonderful car..lots of amenities, but one fatal flaw with the front shocks being very "bouncy" causing premature wear of the tires.
2010 Genny 3.8....love it. Has little things I would love to see improved, looking forward to the 2014's redesign...will switch to a V8, only thing I wish I had done differently when purchasing.

2009 BMW 535i, bought it used, 1st time I had done that in a long time and regretted it. Nice car when it wasn't in the shop, which was quite often with one issue or another.

Old lady has a 2009 Lexus LS 460L, remarkable car but to be honest at the price if the Equus was out then it would be in the garage instead....maybe in a couple years it will be. :)

definetly a bimmer guy. last three cars: 328i, x5 and the genesis replaced my 545i. tired of paying the maintenance. still love em though. first hyundai. do not regret getting my genesis. it looks better and better each day:D

Pictures please :) !!

I replaced a 2000 Chrysler 300m. It had the high performance handling package (V rated tires) and it handled very well. It was also a very reliable car. I noticed the Genesis on the television program Leverage and started to look into it. I monitored used car prices for quite awhile until I found one that worked for me.
