  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow Genesis drivers, I just changed my oil with Mahle Oil Filter kit which came with the filter, oil pan plug crush washer, big o-ring that goes around the oil filter cap and a small o-ring which I ended up not using. When I took out the filter that was installed by the dealer, which was also Mahle, I didn't see the little o-ring either. Was that an extra piece for another perhaps a pre-2012 application?

Please let me know your feedback, if you did this work on yours. Keep in mind as of 2012, Genesis sedan V6 filter moved to under the engine, so I think this would be 2012-14 Genesis Sedan V6 question.

Looking forward to your feedback. Thank you!

I am not sure about the 2012-2014 V6, but on the 2009-2011 V6 the other o-ring fits on the tip of the wand attached to the filter cap.

On my 4.6, that small o-ring is for the small drain plug on the bottom of the filter housing. Mine uses an allen wrench for the plug. I usually replace that one every other oil change. I replace the big o-ring every time.

Hey Dr, '12 V6 doesn't have that plug on the filter housing. Good to know. Thanks! :-)

Hi Mark, yeah that wand wasn't there for my '12 V6. Thank you for chiming in though :-)

I went through '12 Coupe service manual which has the same engine. On the diagrams I only see the large o-ring being used. So I should be fine.

That makes sense. Starting in 2012 with the V6 GDI engine, they moved the oil filter to the bottom of the engine (was on top of engine for 2009-2011 sedan) so the filter mechanism has also changed.
