If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis 3.8 vs 5.0

That's kinda what I was talking about - the car weighs in at about 4600 lbs., but tap the accelerator and "bingo" 0-60 mph in five seconds - I kid you not.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record but yes the Genesis deserves the V8. Just the cherry on the top that turns this into the ultimate luxury sedan. There was a lot of justification to buy the V6 in other discussions about buying a car that would consume less quoting a few miles per gallon difference would make all the difference. Well now that 25mpg then is comparable to 50mpg now with gas at sub $2 (US) and the difference in the pocket book between V6 and V8 in consumption has dropped to half or less of what it used to be. They are saying they see oil dropping down to $20 a barrel, maybe you will see $1.35 at the pumps in the very near future.

As for the weight which seems to be mentioned quite a bit. If compared to an Audi S7 (V8 450hp) at 4564 lbs we are talking very similar. Bump it down to A7 (333hp) and now we are at 4398 lbs. Again strikingly similar to Hyundai's trim offerings. Never seen or heard of anyone complaining the Audi is over weight have you?Honestly, I simply do not feel the weight of this car or the need for a diet except myself that is. ;)

I think the A8 weights like 4700 pounds but yeah not that much difference in weight. Plus it's a huge car,I didn't even realize till I put it in my garage. The cool thing is you can't feel that she weighs a quarter of a ton with the v8. I got my big girl last Saturday and I couldn't be happier. Happy New years btw

If only the V8 AWD was sold in the US...

I assumed they didn't offer it because with awd it might have required gas guzzler tax. I know the srt8 challenger manual needed the 1k tax and so did 2016 shelby gt350. I believe the genesis would also have required the tax with the added weight which might explain why they didn't offer it. I bet there is a tax on the manufacturer too knowing how the government operates.

With gas prices at basement prices and suppliers choking on excess, possibly a new "Gas Miser" tax which would penalize cars with high MPG

Lmao, no kidding expecially that my semitruck gets 7 miles per gallon yet there is "gas guzzler tax". On top of that the more I spend the more money goes towards getting roads fixed. I guess our highways are in such good shape they don't need more money.

I suspect the reason there is no AWD V-8 in the USA is more likely related to CAFE requirements vs. the Gas Guzzler tax.

It will be interesting to see if the G90 and G80 are eventually offered with V8 + AWD.

Frankly, I'm more than happy with the 3.8, but I can understand that some folks will desire the V8.

One of the reasons that I moved from a Sonata to the Azera in 2013, was that I missed the smoothness of the V6 as compared to a 4 cyl. I'm sure that for some, the V8 vs. the V6 offers some smoothness and refinement in addition to the extra oomph.

I suspect that the G80 will include a 3.3 Turbo AWD option, but not a 5.0 AWD (if the 5.0 is even offered at all on the G80 now that the new 3.3T is available). That would be a sweet spot for power, handling and fuel efficiency for the G80.

I must say I prefer the light feel of the v6. ya the v8 is excessively powerful...but the light foot feel is a nice trait as well.

the v8 in sport mode is pretty nuts though.

hyundai missed a great opportunity by not offering a hybrid version of the DH. it would have been a great lexus Es300hybrid killer.

they would have sold more if they went the 4 cyl hybrid and v6 route, totally ditching the v8 all together

You are right about the v8 sport mode but the v6 isnt small by any means. As for a 4 cyl hyrid it's a bit much, they didn't even offer AWD v8 in the states. I rather them keep the options and msrp low. I personally got the genny because of value(bang for the buck)

the es300h lexus is a very high demand car. a lot of people want a full size hybrid and could careless about big horsepower

in case u were living under a rock, the v8 might be discontinued for 2017. it doesn't sell well.

the v8 should be saved for the g90 equus.

I didn't even consider the V8 since I wanted AWD for Midwest winters. I spoke to someone else here that bought a V8 RWD and was told it handled poorly in snow.

It will be removed for v6 turbo eventually but that is only because of government regulations regarding mandated MPG in 2018. As for v8 not selling, naturally there will be alot less sold since usually older demographic buy genesis in the first place. As for me I'm 26 and im loving all those horses. Each his own

First time proud Genesis owner making his first post to weigh in anecdotally on my comparison of the 3.8 to 5.0:

I test drove both the 5.0 and 3.8 and found that the 5.0 just felt heavier and powerful. I think this is in part to the rear wheel drive. The 3.8 handles like butter around turns, and had a far better turning radius than my old Audi. I personally felt like the 3.8 honed into my old driving techniques with the AWD Audi, and I'd think perhaps someone coming from a RWD car might prefer the 5.0.

Practicality speaking I see no reason to spring for a 5.0 unless you for some reason want to engage in drag racing. The 3.8's handling more than made up for the lack in power.

hyundai has put great effort on both the v8 amd v6, u can bet both engines will hold up well into 150,000 miles, unlike the european counterparts that will leak oil after 50k miles.

its all relative and a refusal of the v8 isn't a slam dunk case. the v8 pumps out 420 horses. It's faster than a lot of v8 engines out there, in fact its one of the fastest. It beats the infiniti m56, lexus ls460, benz e550 and the bmw 7 series. It is not a slouch. it is among the fastest v8 engines under 90k dollars. if your into the "mines is bigger than yours" game then you will most likely come out ahead....but the v6 is more practical, and hyundai tuned it to feel light and nimble. It does not feel like a 4500 pound car for sure.

if your commute is a slingshot with no traffic then the v8 is nice, but if your in LA traffic then its not practical. the v6 would be the better choice.

Has anyone seen a 2016 V8 anywhere? The last time I looked there were none anywhere in the US.

Even in traffic it's smooth, If your stuck in LA traffic then what you need is a helicopter not a car lol. Bro that v8 is buttery smooth,it can get up and go in low rpm and doesn't have that artificial sound added. Yeah the lex is an awesome speaker system but I don't need them to play me v6 soundtrack as I punch the gas pedal. Reminds of when I was a kid and I put a card against the tires to make a fake engine sound. Last I checked I'm 26 years old not 8
