  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Sedan Reviews

Top Gear UK reviewed the 3.8 here. Pretty negative review, but hey I'd look at things that way too if I lived in a place that only got 61 days of sunshine a year. In any case, while their review doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for 2016, I did find this quote interesting:

The body is also prone to squatting heavily onto the rear axle on getaway, with the nose rising skyward like an overloaded yachting pleasure craft.
I wonder if that's a clue to this issue that a few are having.

Top Gear sorta called it a pig boat, didn't they.

"It's a comfort barge, then? Yep. The low-speed ride is what really betrays the Genesis as a product aimed at retiree Americans - it floats and porpoises around like a li-lo. So, on rubbish UK roads, it's like riding a li-lo down white water rapids. The eight-speed automatic's gearbox's hesitation doesn't help matters."

I think they totally missed the mark on this review - having owned the car for 7 months, I disagree with almost everything they've said. If they were expecting a sports sedan, then they just don't understand the car...

Top Gear knows which advertisers ante up and buy ads on their show, and at least when it's broadcast in the US, Hyundai isn't one of them.

Look let's be honest, the Genesis is heavy. It's a big car (It's nearly the size of a BMW 7 series), made of high strength and ultra-high-strength steel (between the two, more than 50 percent), filled with tech and safety features and polished off with almost 90 pounds of sound-deadening. All those features add up in weight. On the flip-side, it's also solid and well-built, and there's no other car I'd want to be in in an accident (save perhaps the Mercedes E class).

I don't dislike the German manufacturers nor their vehicles, but I do loathe the unbalanced praise they receive by the media, without mention of some of the reliability issues that plague some of them after a certain point of ownership.

In any case, with regards to the Top Gear review, the percentage of time my 2nd gen Genesis (2016 models can't come out soon enough) will be on UK roads will be 0, and I'm also likewise unlikely ever to drive on the Top Gear test track, and I'm okay with both of those realities. On the other hand, the percentage of time it will be spent driving on 80mph freeways of Texas will be, shall we say, considerably higher. Thanks Top Gear, you're fun to watch, but I usually DVR-fastwind through your commercials anyway.

Look at those photos of the Top Gear hosts. They must be at least 5, or more, years old.

They are definitely older than 5 years old - I would guess 55+ ;)

He means the photos themselves.

The Top Gear review reads like it was written before the car was driven. It is all about the proposition of a Korean luxury sedan competing successfully with cars from Germany and The UK, and the thinly-veiled snobbery and bias is quite frankly unattractive and undermines the credibility of Top Gear in my opinion. While the 2015 Genesis is not a sports sedan, it is a capable performer for it's size, weight and level of comfort. It does not "float." It has a wonderfully tuned suspension for the segment it populates, and it does not have cheap switchgear as the article suggests. My 2015 Ultimate has great fit and finish, the controls, buttons, switches are first-rate, and the leather, wood and aluminum trim are tastefully done and on par if not better than the European cars that the reviewer pimps in comparison. The seats in my 2015 are the best I have yet to encounter in any luxury sedan as far as support and comfort. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar have nothing in the segment that offers as much car for the money - nothing!

While soft-close doors and reclining rear seats mentioned are a plus in the UK version, they appear to have put the steering wheel on the wrong side ;)

I'm surprised how they didn't comment on how the hood "slopes".

They are such fanboys of super cars, I really didn't expect a good review from UK Top Gear. They are a guilty pleasure, but I kind of view them as the UK version of Jackass.
