  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis V6 Signature vs. premium seat

Could not agree more. The only thing I am not happy about with the Genesis is the geniuses at the dealership. They are the geniuses I expected, but that still does not keep me from being annoyed.
The problem is - the Genesis is worth the trouble. :p

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I called two dealerships - one flat out said it wasn't possible and the other quoted $6K with there being safety issues if it were possible. Claim the car is configured such that a change of seat would be an air bag problem. I'm not buying it. They are just trying to upgrade me to a Tech in my opinion. I haven't been able to find a Genesis seat online either; obviously too new.

Appreciate your comment. about the only thing I don't value about the whole Genesis experience (mine is about a month old) is the dealership and the sales person. I firmly believe based on my experiencing 3 different dealerships is that the quality of the Hyundai product far outweighs that of the Hyundai people you buy it from.

This is exactly why Hyundai needs to make "Genesis" either a brand or a sub-brand. They cannot train regular sales people how to treat and handle luxury automobile buyers. Imagine how many higher-end buyers would lease/purchase a Genesis or Equus if the sales experience was more "on their level".

It is just plain laziness. I had my dealer claim that the headlights were not adjustable because they were self-levelling

This is a little more involved. I don't think a dealer is going to take the time to research the answer, be it Hyundai or BMW or Mercedes. That is why they quoted you the $6K price, it was a get you out of their hair quote.

Either you or a customizer are going to have to pull the physical and electrical specifications of the two seats and compare them. There is an airbag in the seat, but I would suspect that it is the same one for both seats. You will have to dig out that information. In the long run, because of the airbag, I don't think any dealer will touch that mod.

It IS true that in most cases sales people don't know what they're talking about in regards to automobiles. All they know about it sales. This goes for all dealerships. Some of us are "enthusiasts" and can't imagine how it could be this way. However, most people see automobiles as appliances - which is why cars like the Toyota Camry sell so well. Though I will admit I do like the Camry. Then again, I'm a bit of a car nut and can find something I like about any car...

This is a good thought and Hyundai should listen if they do really want to make this a premium brand. However this summer I also bought a new fully loaded Sante Fe for my wife from another dealer and the sales person here really did not know the product he was selling, or things like the warranty details. Besides the comical "let me check with my manager" back and forth the common theme with both dealers was the excessive pressure they exert after you reach a deal to sell you unnecessary warranties and other things. The atmosphere brought me back as a teenager buying from a used car lot. I have accompanied my kids in the last several years to buy from Toyota, Chevy and Nissan, and I did not see this. Will Iam sure there are good Hyundai dealers out there, for me, Hyundai is selling a lot of really good cars despite the people and dealerships who are selling them!

Sales people are chosen by dealers, not by Hyundai. Given that Hyundai dealers sell a lot of low price cars (compared to luxury brands), you are not going to find the same level of knowledge or professionalism that you would at a dealership like Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, Audi, BMW, or MB, etc.

There have been some interesting undercover stories written by journalists who got a sales job in car dealership and then wrote about the experience. First, most sales people don't make a lot of money, especially on lower priced cars.

Second, the number one criteria for getting hired is that a person demonstrate that they want to make a lot of money (and will do whatever the sales manager asks them to do). Knowledge of, or interest in, automobiles is not even a minor consideration when hiring car sales staff at the vast majority of dealerships.

I mentioned above that the list price of the Equus Seat (could not find a 2015 Genesis price) is about $4500 per an online Hyundai parts catalog, so I don't think $6K is out of line compared to what they charge for everything else.

Some people are claiming the safety issue is bogus, but I believe that the seats do contain airbags on the side of the seat-back (if there is a little SRS tag on the seat). If there is a front end collision, or a side collision, the airbag in the seat is supposed to inflate, but the wiring could be different.

The biggest problem is that the dealer just doesn't know for sure if there is an impact on safety with a different seat, and from a legal liability standpoint, the dealer could be held liable if someone got into an accident with a dealer installed seat not designed for that particular trim level. Personal Injury Lawyers don't care whether it is fair to sue, they just file law suits anyway.

There aren't many brands that offer an excellent sales experience. And service - forget about it. You might think service at BMW or Mercedes is good. It's not. They're very arrogant. Audi is even arrogant at the time of sale. Lexus is excellent in all areas. So Hyundai isn't that bad - but it's not a luxury car company so their sales people are just not trained to deal with people buying expensive cars. They really need to change that.

Yes, Hyundai is selling a lot of nice cars even with a sales staff that doesn't quite stand up to other brands yet. Imagine how much more Hyundais would sell if there were improvements in this area...

Yeah, I agree with you on all points. I imagine it's very difficult to find a good sales person who's also enthusiastic about automobiles. It's a shame...

Not only did my dealer adjust mine initially as I asked, but the tech showed me how so I could finish the adjustments to suit me. Fortunately, they are not all the same. (Carolina Kia in High Point, NC, just for reference.)

Yes, some Hyundai dealerships are great! They're certainly not all bad...
