  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A comment on the board about the possible replacement of a defective electronics module (head) could run more than $5,000 got me thinking about a warranty for the first time with a car. I realize even the Platinum warranty does not cover wearable items like brakes, filters, hoses, wipers. But for some reason I seem to recall that even the Platinum will not cover all aspects of electronics including the safety related tech (lane, intelligent cruise control, etc). Is purchase of the warranty when buying a new car the best time price wise to do it? Thanks

Whether or not you should purchase the extended warranty at about the same time you purchase the car, or several years later, is debatable. However, you do not need to purchase the warranty from the dealer where you purchased your car, and there are several dealers in the US who will sell them on the phone for a good price. Search the forum to find those dealers and get a quote.

Thanks. But the other part of the question is does the Platinum cover all aspects of electronics, infotainment, safety tech, etc and for how long?

I believe that it covers infotainment, but not any features controlled by "radar" etc. Call a dealer for pricing and get a copy of the terms. If you have any questions, you should be able to contact Hyundai (or warranty issuer) about the exact terms.

Thanks again. Seems to ring a bell. I wonder why they would not cover radar related issues? Bet this is a potential big $$$ repair, and not covering is a disincentive. I guess the important question is how often are there problems and how expensive is it.

I bought the Hyundai bumper to bumper 10 year 100K warranty with no deductible for $1425. Given the high tech electronics in this vehicle, i thought the warranty was worthwhile.

Here is what the Platinum Warranty does note cover. It does not cover non-factory installed items you mentioned.

Here is what is not covered:

• Mechanical, Exterior, Interior Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard transmission clutch components, air bags, solar powered devices, hinges, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, trim, moldings, door handles, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, batteries, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, shock absorbers, audio, security or other systems not factory installed, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing, constant velocity joint boots, safety restraint systems, cellular phones, electronic transmitting devices (except for those specifically listed under silver, gold, or gold plus coverage), radar detectors, appliances, near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components, vinyl and convertible tops.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
"near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components" Not included in Platinum extended coverage? I can understand many of the other exclusions, but is this some type of consumable like brake linings and hoses? Why would this be excluded any more than other electronics? I know you board members are owners and do not write policy, but you may have some insight if you have discussed in past. Also how much to replace said failed components? Is this a very low probability? Thanks

Your reading that wrong. Everything after "or other systems not factory installed work such as...", means anything that is not factory installed is not covered. I will have my dealer confirm that the avoidance systems and laser radar cruise control components are covered and report back.

That sounds logical, but the terms are very poorly worded. I am not sure I would take the dealer's word for it.

I am waiting on a response from my dealer. I will report back what their interpretation is.

Thanks to you for checking it out. I would rather have Hyundai corporate confirm this. Maybe someone who has standing with a Platinum warranty could shoot an email to corporate for confirmation.

Contract exclusions.

If my monitor is not playing tricks on me and I read the section correction, a period (not a comma) follows the word "approved". All the items in the next sentence are excluded from coverage. Bummer

That is what it looks like, but hard to say because it is extremely poorly written (maybe on purpose).

If it does exclude this equipment, I wonder why? Anybody have an idea if there have been issues with radar related safety tech, and how much it cost to fix out of 36 mo warranty? Seems like a pretty big item to exclude.

Only the following items are limited to 3 years - 36K miles:
Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth).

The other Tech features (including radar related stuff) should fall under the standard 5 year - 60K mile warranty:

Still not clear about the extended warranty and what it covers/excludes. It looks to me like the lawyers who wrote the terms are idiots unless they are trying to confuse people on purpose. It's no wonder that many people don't take Hyundai seriously as a luxury car automaker.

Thanks for the useful information Mark.
I have written unambiguous agreements for companies I have worked and have to say you nailed it about being confusing.

It appears that they think we are the idiots. :(
