DRPearson, are you saying that you drove off the dealer's lot in a car that had a telescoping steering
wheel that was too short for your comfort?
Also, why haven't you gotten a custom auto upholsterer to make you a better-fitting seat? Even a seat insert, held onto your seatback with rubber bands, should work wonders for you. This is what such businesses do. This shop is 5 minutes from my house. You must have a similar place available.

PMCErnie - quick reply is that i have honestly looked into all of the alternatives that you have posted. I am just running on a short fuse due to spinal and CLL leash. This has seriously restricted my decision making abilities. Normally, i would have taken this bull by the horns and taken care of it one way or another. It's just not easy now to deal with decisions etc as it used to be a short time ago.
Everything you have posted, i agree with, and wish I could tackle, but I am floundering between just spend the cash money and get a new car, or deal with altering the 2013 Rspec I have. I am not doing a good job of dealing with the issue, but realistically, I do not get out a lot, so trying to weigh that into the equation. Again, i agree with you and 3 years ago, I would tell myself, get the darn deal done and move on.
I went the site you posted, and several others. As you posted, It would be easy to just get a shell built to fit over my Rspec seat that will allow me to get by until i get another car, or the 2015 Genesis. I did this exact thing when i had an old Mark VII which had articulated seats but was not good for my spine ---- I did trade in that nice Mark VII for the best car seat I have sat in, the 1993 SHO. I do not like FWD, etc, but the seat was the deal, period. I bought the last versions of the 1995 SHO's automatics, then found out the the
Lincoln LS's with some minor alterations worked great for me. After 3 LS's, the last being the 2006 RWD 3.9L V8, I was out to find what would work for me.
I spent 6 months looking at the V8, RWD Genesis, then drove 5 of them, then made a decision to buy the car so I could arrange to have Chemo for the CLL I have. After 800 miles of driving in the 2013 Rspec, i realized it was not working --- great car, great quality, etc, but I screwed up. How did I not realize the telescoping did not work?????
Great question. I drove a number of 2013 3.8's and 5.0's, but when I decided to buy, I got the dealer to get me a 2013 new White Rspec from another dealer close by --- I should have done what i did with previous cars ... rent them and drive them for miles to determine if they work. The telescoping issue as folks have posted on line here was performed on the 2012-2013 via a TSB to restrict the range of the telescope
wheel. I honestly do not know how i missed that, or if the models i drove did not have the software changed (in the 2012-2013 models) that restricted the telescoping range "significantly' ( as posted from folks on this forum).
I screwed up, period, but the 2013 Genesis, and 2012 Genesis was not designed to have a 1 inch telescoping
wheel range .... the software change was performed to prevent warranty issues, period. I have sat in the Equus, and the Azera to see how the range is in those vehicles, and it is much much more than 1 inch as the 2013 Genesis. Again, i screwed up somehow, period.
Let me try to pull things together, and see where i go from here. My wife and I did rig up a device to have the upper part of the 'straight' seat back to bend forward, as it is in the 2015, and most other sports cars .... it was not pretty, but it helped some, but it did not allow me to get closer to the
wheel as needed.
I honestly appreciate the help and information from you Ernie, and others on this board, but i am inch-worming along to try to get a resolution. I have never been this gun-shy regarding dealing with a car issue, but the over-all health issue has limited my judgement and process. Thank you for the site again ... will re-visit the site again, and again, i am sorry i have taken up so much time, space and words here. Regards, Dan.
PS - For what it is worth, i did contact the Hyundai Rep, and he is going to look into the software TSB that restricted the telescope issue. I do not expect much, but the Rep was a top notch pragmatic person when talking/conveying the issue to him. 'Why have a telescoping
wheel to be only 1 inch' --- so will see where that goes, but bottom line is that i screwed up here somehow .... it's my problem and i am trying to resolve it. Regards, Dan.
