2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

"No production green light has been given just yet, but it’s possible the car may have even more power than the 5.0-liter V8’s 420 hp. If the car does happen, we won’t see it until sometime after the regular V6 and V8 Genesis arrives in dealers this spring. "

Could stall some sales as many wait and see if the new model will get the green light. I would hate to buy in the spring to have a performance AWD model be announced later in the year. I hope they have some more firmness on their plans at launch - at least as far as this rumored model.

I completely agree. They need to have a firm yes/no on a performance variant, definitely before the '15 goes on sale... preferably sooner. Announcing pricing for the performance one before the regular one launches would be nice too. I was hoping to get the '15 5.0 as soon as it was locally available. I need to know whether to wait or not, and that will depend on timeframe and price...

Italia - I was looking at the CarBuzz site you posted, and in the comments section one poster mentioned that he saw on the 'USA Hyundai site' where the 2015 5.0L priced out at $53, 499. I have not seen any pricing on Hyundai's USA site for the 2015. The poster was a non-Hyundai fan, so no telling if he actually saw that info on the site, I sure could not find where you could build and price out a 2015?? Regards.

I believe you that the comment was there, but I can't find it. I don't think it makes any sense though... For one I believe the line that Hyundai hasn't finalized the options, let alone pricing (sure they have an idea, but I don't think they have the MSRP down to the hundreds). For them to be in the discussions stage and have someone do the coding to accidentally put it on the website would be silly, plus the full price V8 would likely only show if you "built it" on the website... otherwise you'd see the "starting at" price.

On to the actual price not making sense... They're stating firmly that the V6 will stay under $40k. A couple review sites predicted around $38k for the base V6, and I think that's reasonable. Remember that the base V6 will now include parts of what used to be the premium package, as well as new things standard (the Nav -- which when optioned separately on most cars is $1500+). Throw in the paddle shifters, etc. That makes the '14 to '15 markup rather reasonable at $1500-2000.

The change in pricing for the 5.0 should be smaller than the total change in pricing for the 3.8 because nav was always standard on the 5.0, but it's being added to the base price of the 3.8. So if the V6 goes up $3k total, I would expect the V8 to go up $2k or slightly less.

If the Hyundai USA site had the 5.0 that expensive, then it was the rear-wheel drive variant.... and since it certainly wasn't up on the "build it" page it didn't have the tech package either. That would put the AWD 5.0 with Tech at near $60k if they offered it. That would be dead-on pricing for an Audi A6 Prestige with a couple options on top of Prestige (full LED headlights anyone?). That supercharged V6 is severely under-rated and will run head-to-head with the 5.0 too.

Hyundai has stated several times from the very top that the Genesis and Equus cannot compete at the same pricepoint as the Germans or Japanese without a sub-brand, and that they'd rather offer them as low/medium volume halo because they boost brand perception and sales for cars in the mainstream brand segment. That requires that people buy them, which imo requires that they not be able to get an A6 Prestige for less than an AWD 5.0 Genesis.

Similarly if they did run the V6 all the way to $39,999 and then throw AWD on as a $2k option then they're only $1k short of an Acura TL-SH with tech for the V6 AWD model. That's hardly the difference to phrase as "that people can actually afford" from the Detroit launch.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but again if we're talking mid $50's and removing some features from the '14 I'll just go get the Audi at $57 with AWD and be done with it. The TLX prototype didn't look too bad either -- the next gen is supposed to deliver a good bit more power with the hybrid powertrain too.

Italia - That's good advice/information regarding the A6. I did not know the A6 would run as hard as the 5.0Rspec, but i believe you. They just opened a new Audi dealer a few miles from my house, and very close to the Hyundai dealer here where i live. They were suppose to get about 77 cars to open the dealership. When talking to the sales person he said they sent about 170 cars. I went to a dirt lot near the dealer, and he was not kidding --- it was loaded up with various Audi's with the packing/shipping material on them. Looked like 'Field of Dreams' to me.

I did see the TLX in the paper today. It was the featured car for this Sunday's paper. They needed to get that nose rounded off, which is what the article said they did. They had no info what so ever regarding the cabin, just the exterior. I looked at TL's years ago, and again a few months ago.

Now, if i really wanted to go all out and take care of this car/seat/spinal ordeal, the A8 would do the trick. I sat in that absolutely awesome seat, and it was the deal, period. After I got home, I saw that my neighbor had a white A8. She takes her 2 yellow labs riding around in the back of it!! I need to go talk to her, mercy. Regards

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/1206_six_cylinder_midsize_luxury_sedans/

They have the A6 at a 4.7 0-60.

4.8 for the 2012 Rspec from them.

A lot of that may be the advantage at launch, but I would definitely put the A6 3.0T more in line with the 5.0 than the 3.8 of the genesis though it may suffer to the 5.0 when not starting from a dig.

Any idea if the new 2015 Genesis will have ASPAS (Advanced Smart Parking Assist) like the Korean Version? See the Korean ASPAS video here:

http://youtu.be/qku8O2E82No

At the Detroit Auto show, these buttons were blanked out on the model that was debuted. See the difference here:

Also, the Korean version of the 2015 Genesis Sedan offered backseat controls on the center armrest. Will the U.S. version offer those as well as an option? See the difference here:

As you can see in your pictures, the US version appears not to have the parking assist or around-view buttons. They are also absent from the options list Hyundai released.

The back seat controls were mostly for the rear entertainment which is also absent on US models. Expect heated seat controls and the rear power sunshade to be the only buttons in the rear.

I agree with you. They need to get there act together. This whole release seems to be a debacle. Why would they not wait and release all versions at the same time. They are only going to hurt the sales of the early release cars for those who want to now wait an see when might be coming. I will be waiting now to see what transpires.

Too bad, I would have liked to have had those options for the U.S. model.
The KDM versions sold in Korea cost about $15K more than the Genesis versions sold in the US. Based on brand perception in the US, Hyundai must be substantially below their competition to compete in the luxury market, and some things had to be left off. For the price of a KDM Genesis, you can get a Equus which has many of those things (or will have when next Generation Equus is available).

Mark_888 ; Totally agree with you.

I test drove a current genesis 5.0(2014) on Saturday. I love it. Can't wait to see a new one in person.

Every time I see a pic of the rear, it looks like something is missing. It looks too much like a Sonata or Elantra without the chrome accent strip. IMO it makes the car look more downscale and less expensive. I will have to wait until the middle of next month to see it in person here in Toronto

katman0 ; I also sometimes think about the rear like the way you think of. This make me think more that I need to see car in person. Because, for example, when I saw audi a6 in internet, it doesn't look pretty at all in my eyes and I thought no way to buy an a6 but when I visited a dealership and saw Audi a6 with 20 inch wheels, it was a beautiful with its size.

I agree completely. I didn't get a chance to go to Detroit, but I expect this car will look great in person. Too bad we're not getting those dual projectors from the most recently posted pics...

I do really hope they do some minor things to improve on the Detroit model from pictures though. I really hope they don't leave blank button spaces on the top USDM models in the center console. I really hope they move buttons from the knee area to the center console and leave the blanks over there. Little things like that really detract from the overall look imo. That or reshape the cutout to remove the bottom two buttons below the DIS knob if they're going to remain unused.

When you quote someone, could you please remove the link to the images? We don't need to see them again. I don't mean to pick on you, since a lot others do the same thing, but it just slows everything down when using this forum.

The picture is a single small picture and it was nearing the end of the page and I thought it might land on the next one. I don't see your issue at all.

Edit: I even made a point of not re-re-posting the string of pics with the dual projectors that I also referred to.

I was able to see the new Genesis at the NAIAS. It was beautiful. The first thing I looked at was the
front grille. I wasnt sure if it was going to look a little obtrusive. It did not. It is not as big in person as it is in some of the photos. I focused more on the 3.8 as that is what I am interested in. I was a little disappointed that there was not a darker or even a medium brown leather interior as shown in some of the photos from Korea. The paint was beautiful and there was no orange peel as you can see even on the new C7.
The display was not that great. The new 3.8 was tucked in at an eye level semi circle, blocking the view of passers by which I thought was strange. the 5.0 was hiding in the back of the display. I thought it would be more open and elevated for the premier.
I will try to post a few pics later. The photos from the press kit are far superior to mine so Im afraid my photos wont show anything substantial.

I was also surprised they didn't show either a saddle or black interior since they had two cars to show. Good to know about the paint quality, orange peel drives me nuts. I have a few family members with Chevy products and they all have that orange peel to a noticeable degree, disappointing to see that appears to be continuing.
