2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

And what's really the purpose of waiting to launch sub-brand until the RK launches when it's only a 1/5-2 years away?

Because waiting will give Hyundai twice as much product to seel and that's really the issue here. Hyundai needs enough product to sustain the brand. Launching a sub-brand with inly two vehicles would be fruitless. They know that; that's why they haven't done it.

All the recent post above turbo talk gets me sick my stomach. Not because of the people making the postings. Instead because all the turbo fad from other suppliers, which produce tiny gains in overall MPG, add to the complexity... They also reduce available choice of the real man feeling and sounds that a V8 gives.

Turbo time with today's' suppliers playing keep up with the Jones's, and a repeat of chaos history of the 80's and early 90s, is sick. Yes, I know a few millionths of a gram per mile pollution is reduced with steady state EPA turbo driving.. So what? Real world mileage these motors do not deliver MPG advantage or reduced "emissions". Oh, maybe a few millionths of a gram per mile less of the FAKE named "pollutant" CO2 (which a family of 4 emits more CO2 breathing in a day with their bodies than a car... When will be exceed our "CO2 quota" and be "chosen" to become Soilent Green?).

I never want to see Hyundai go turbo with this or other high brand of car. I am very thankful they have not done this yet. They sure could if they wanted.

Let's have them avoid the doomed repeat of turbo history. The only factor here to force them into the turbo replacing the TAU V8? Feral jack boot thugs in .gov.

Look, if a supplier want to "give a boost" to one of their mainstream engines for a gain in horsepower they could not do within a particular design, good for them. A 600hp TAU 5.0 or 5.5 would be good start. :) Putting in super wound up turbo 4 to replace the 3.8 V6? Or ANY turbo V6 to replace the TAU V8, is sacrilege. So happy the 2015 Genesis has not gone to this past failed history path.

If I remember correctly, Lexus, Infiniti and Acura each launched with two models. Lexus had a sedan and coupe, Infiniti had the big Q45 and a smaller sedan and Acura with the Legend and sporty Integra. True, they all added models over time.

What may be holding up a sub brand launch: (1) the huge costs involved (2) the "re-invention" of the Hyundai brand still requires the halo effect of the Genesis-as-a-Hyundai strategy and (3) sub brands, while a great concept, don't always turn out to be such great ventures.....I don't know for a fact but believe both Acura and Infiniti haven't delivered the profitable business hoped for.

I agree, but the issue is that .gov CAFE standards work on fleet averages, vehicle types, and wheelbase area. The Genesis could get identical mileage as last year and .gov would give it more credit because the wheels got pushed a little farther apart. Likewise, because its sales numbers are quite low compared to Elantra and Sonata it doesn't hurt the fleet average too much to have the 5.0. As Hyundai moves down the luxury lineup there will be more and more pressure to go all-FI to meet fuel standards as the RK will have a smaller wheelbase and likely sell more units than the Genesis.

Not only does it hurt reliability and force companies with good NA engines to go FI, it also kills the uniqueness of the brands (Porsche) that went that way on their own. I bet Atkinson cycle is going to be the next big thing, and we start seeing Atkinson + Hybrid + FI and a huge cost increase for the same HP to meet .gov standards.

At least with Hyundai you've got a nice warranty on that Turbo.

The automotive climate is a lot different now than 20+ years ago. Although there is definitely a cost involved, it wouldn't be as much as launching a separate brand. Remember this is a sub-brand we are talking about. Brands like Infiniti and Acura are struggling for different reasons that are unrelated to each other.

...long, but entertaining rant...

It's the nature of the beast. All manufacturers will be forced to down-size their engines. Hyundai might not have done it with the 2015 Genesis, but that doesn't rule out a turbo for the MCE.

I kinda wish Hyundai didn't do this. It kinda burns early adopters to not sync the engine changes with the model changes.

Are the CAFE standards that much different in Canada? I was under the impression that they adopted out standards a few years back. Reason I ask is because of the presently proposed lack of 5.0 AWD offering in States.

I understand that, but the RK and new coupe are only 1-2 years away.

By starting the sub-brand w/ the new cycle of products starting w/ the 2G Genesis, it would preclude having to RE-launch the 2G Genesis and 3G Equus (which would result in some owners then having a Hyundai badged 2G Genesis and 3G Equus and some owners having the same model being presumably Genesis badged - w/ the Genesis sedan likely being called something else).

Many automakers since new powerplants w/ the MCE instead of the launch of an all-new model since it gives a reason to purchase a model in the middle of its life cycle.

Most likely, the Genesis will be getting a 3.3L V6 turbo powerplant but no indication as to whether it would supplant the 3.8L V6 or be an addition).

Sure wish they would make a decision soon regarding the 5.0 AWD. Lexus 350 AWD F sport has quite a bit of technology and is few thousand less than the E350 4matic sport.

Tom.....I've spent a couple hours in the 2015 Genesis as a passenger. I've seen it twice at the U.S. Hdqtrs and I have to sy, if they put a 5 Series, E Class, A6 and CTS in front of my house along with a 2015 Genesis and I get to pick...I take the Genesis. Period. Best interior. Dead quiet. Precision steering (Point and Shoot) and solid good looks. I am going to get a rear drive 3.8 H Trac not necessary in So Cal. 3.8 is plenty quick. I did see a 5.0 H Trac in a Hyundai parking structure at least in badging. Don't know if it's meant for production or not though. Any way you slice it, this thing is the real deal.

What are the chances of this thing launching around the current model's pricing for the 3.8 RWD? I want this car badly but cannot spend more than $38k or so...

Bill-thanks for your feedback. Hopefully we will get a chance to see the car in showrooms and take that important test drive.

Yes, Bill. I am holding off an upcoming move to a MB, Audi or BMW until I can see and drive it. Hopefully, it can meets expectations and your experience makes me optimistic.

Hopefully we will know soon. I'm personally expecting the base model to be 37-38k with the major increase in effective price coming from the lack of discounting below sticker. You've probably heard already, but they have at least promised that it will start "under $40k". They could obviously go $39,900 before destination and claim to have kept that promise, but I don't think they're going to ride that close to $40k, even with Nav now included as base.

So you just confirmed you saw the badging of the 5.0 Htrac? Thats good news.

I'm a big fan of infotainment systems in the car. The new Hyundai Genesis sedan for 2015 looks to have an awesome one. I just updated my iPhone to the latest iOS version and noticed that it had an upgrade for "Car Play" systems. I read about Car Play in the following article which mentions new models by Hyundai. Does anyone know if the new 2015 Genesis sedan will be "Car Play" enabled? Read about Car Play here: http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/03/ap...s-of-millions-of-cars-into-iphone-accessories

The 2G Gen will likely start around the $38-39k pricepoint.

If that's too close for comfort, wait a bit for discounts from MSRP to start appearing (in some parts of the country won't have to wait as long as others) or purchase one that served as a manager's ride, loaner, etc.

2015 MPG
3.8 RWD
18 city 22 combined 29 highway
3.8 AWD
16/19/25
5.0 RWD
15/18/23
If these numbers are acurate, it is likely then that CAFE standards may prevent release of 5.0 AWD in States.
