Genesis and the
Kia Stinger is a fair representation of compan(ies) trying to break into the luxury brand. It seems the dealer level needs to understand the expectation of the clients, we expect a great product, and if it is not up to par, we want it fixed not only quickly but done well by what we perceive to be experts. I don't doubt that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are trying very hard, by they broke into the market with really cheap poor quality cars really not that long ago, and now they are shooting for luxury...they aren't hitting the mark because they aren't pushing the lowest levels (sales, service) into the right direction hard enough.
When I had my 2012
Kia Sportage SX, I said I wouldn't touch another HK(A) auto until they had some performance pedigree in their expertise since that thing was no fun to drive and the suspension was just terrible, but the overall quality was not too bad. Along came Albert Beirmann and I figured his oversight would fix the performance issues, which he somewhat did, although I perceive the
Stinger suspension to still be needing a lot of refinement work; but at least for me, the gains in driving experience and performance has been undermined by numerous refinement issues. I will not be burned by HKG a third time, this is my last Korean built car, and also my last brand new car since none have ever lived up to my expectations.
Also, to the note of the headliner replacement and the failure of it, I had my doubts initially that it would work, but I had some idle hope. I do think the design flaw of our sunroofs will eventually have a relatively easy "tweak" to fix them, yet that solution is still unknown over 2 years after the release of the
Stinger.
