  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

I can say with certainty that the fix I applied previously works. Yesterday I removed the foam tape and the rattle returned. Reapplied it and the rattle was gone.
sounds good - prior to reading this, I liberally applied white lithium grease to what I suspected were contact points (including this "foot" area) and so far, no more clunking!

Ah yes, the quintessential Hyundai/Genesis sunroof rattle. This is my third Hyundai product (first a 2012 Sonata Limited, then 2016 Genesis 3.8, now G70). I’ve had an issue with sunroof rattles/creaks in every. Single. One. Same with my dad’s 2015 Genesis 3.8 and 2018 G80 Sport. However, none have been as bad as my G70. I’ve had rattles since around September after taking it on a spirited drive through the mountains outside Los Angeles. I get that aggressive driving through canyons isn’t the easiest thing on a car, but this is a sports sedan; the whole point is to be able to have fun without worrying about making the sunroof rattle! Anyway, I finally got the issue to replicate with the dealer (it’s near constant rattling now) and they’re actually replacing my whole sunroof assembly. Hopefully that solves the problem.

Definitely let us know if the sunroof replacement is a success.

I won't be thinking much about my minute rattle over the winter since my G70 Sport is under a cover until late March.

Big favor to ask. Your headliner will be removed to replace the sun roof assembly. Tell the dealer you need to see your car when the headliner is out. They may argue and quote insurance crap won’t allow you in the service area, but I’ve never been denied with a little persistence. I need a picture of wire colors that come from the 3rd brake light mounted on the roof interior and a picture showing if the wires go toward the left or right door pillar. I have a flasher module I want to hook into the wiring from the 3rd brake light but don’t want to disassemble half the car trying to find the right wires. Knowing wire colors and which side the wires go down would be a big help for me. Thanks.

Which dealer are you using?

FYI - replacing the headliner does not solve the issue. Or didn't in my case. They had to remove my front windshield to replace it. Total mess and I had the US limited Design Edition. Black shop grease all over the light cream carpet and suede headliner. It was a several month ordeal. The shop at my local dealership truly tried, but they are not accustom to the increased level of customer service and repair quality/care needed for luxury brand services. I called Genesis Consumer service to complain. They looked into it right away and eventually purchased my car back. I loved the car no doubt and may have just lived with the popping, but my local shop molested it and it just wasn't the same afterwards. I've since moved to a more practical Audi SQ5 since the Genesis suvs weren't ready and was going to wait for the redesigned G70, that unfortunately is getting the G90 treatment that I'm not a fan of. Now I can only hope they have a performance version of the GV70 in the future.

More practical...LOL. Yer kidding...right?

Brakes can only be purchased through Audi and over $3k all around...plus labor (Audi or elsewhere).

100% why we didn’t get one...it was close.

I'm definitely not going to let the dealer replace my headliner nor sunroof after what happened to Tdefrees car. The simple foam tape worked for me and I'm sure it may work for many. It's most likely a design issue, so unless they fix that, replacing it with the same thing won't fix it.

Genesis of Huntington Beach! Was going to use Laguna Niguel, but apparently the 22 minute drive to Orange is “too far” for them to do valet service even though the official corporate statement is 50 miles or an hour 🙃

Dang... I remember you posting all the details during the headliner replacement - sounded frustrating (no pun intended)!

I think it's pretty good on GMA for buying your car back. I would not have expected them to do that, but they certainly tried to do what was right, probably fully knowing their dealer network is pretty dang weak and silly at the moment.

I hope you enjoy the Audi. If I end up losing my car for whatever reason, I'm not sure I'd come back to Genesis, unless they make a performance version of the G70 that somehow blows my mind (which is entirely possible). Though I have no idea what I would get instead.

For all intended purposes, it is more practical for my lifestyle as a daily driver. 2 large 70lb dogs and weekly trips to Costco, an suv makes more sense. As I earn more disposable income in the near future, I may be back to purchase another G70 3.3t as a weekend warrior. I do miss it!

Brakes aren't $3k at my local Audi. Was approximately $1800 for rotors and pads on my 2013 A6 3.0t I traded in for the G70 originally. Definitely not cheap by any means, but lasted me 55k miles. I'll be out of lease way before the need hopefully.

Sorry to tell you...yes they are. Double. High performance brakes only from Audi.

That’s why we got the Q5 instead of the SQ5.

I wanted the S soooo bad...but wife’s decision in the end...her ride.

That explains why Laguna has never offered me valet service for my appointment(s). I'd be very interested in hearing about your experience at the Huntington Beach dealer since it's much closer to my house than Laguna

I've had lackluster service from my local Genesis dealer and wondered whether I'd buy the car if I could do it all again. Upon looking at the competitors, though, absolutely no company offers this blend of performance and features for the price. To get to the level of equipment in a BMW with a 4-cylinder (let alone a 6) would take 5 grand more. Jaguar charges like $800 bucks or something ridiculous for a heads up display. For better or worse, I really think this is the best car in its segment.

I honestly have had a pretty good experience with Huntington. They have a dedicated Genesis concierge - the only dealership I've encountered with one - and she's super nice. Irvine told me they were "booked out for two weeks" for the service valet, and Huntington took my car with 3 days' notice. As for Laguna, I can't advise against them enough. I actually called Genesis Connected Care to verify the official driving distance for valet, and the representative got the dealership on the phone and the service manager hung up on her! So, she put a note about how poor the service was in the official dealership file that is used to determine whether they are allowed to continue operating a Genesis store 😂 So, while they're not quite perfect, Huntington is definitely your best bet in OC.

Genesis and the Kia Stinger is a fair representation of compan(ies) trying to break into the luxury brand. It seems the dealer level needs to understand the expectation of the clients, we expect a great product, and if it is not up to par, we want it fixed not only quickly but done well by what we perceive to be experts. I don't doubt that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are trying very hard, by they broke into the market with really cheap poor quality cars really not that long ago, and now they are shooting for luxury...they aren't hitting the mark because they aren't pushing the lowest levels (sales, service) into the right direction hard enough.

When I had my 2012 Kia Sportage SX, I said I wouldn't touch another HK(A) auto until they had some performance pedigree in their expertise since that thing was no fun to drive and the suspension was just terrible, but the overall quality was not too bad. Along came Albert Beirmann and I figured his oversight would fix the performance issues, which he somewhat did, although I perceive the Stinger suspension to still be needing a lot of refinement work; but at least for me, the gains in driving experience and performance has been undermined by numerous refinement issues. I will not be burned by HKG a third time, this is my last Korean built car, and also my last brand new car since none have ever lived up to my expectations.

Also, to the note of the headliner replacement and the failure of it, I had my doubts initially that it would work, but I had some idle hope. I do think the design flaw of our sunroofs will eventually have a relatively easy "tweak" to fix them, yet that solution is still unknown over 2 years after the release of the Stinger.

I think that's fair.

I don't blame Genesis or the dealer for my (essentially) loss of warranty; but, the dealership experience has been extremely frustrating going through the troubles I went through with my car. Also, with so many reports of major drivetrain failure has lead me to completely lose confidence in my car.

My next car will most likely be used. If I were to go back to Genesis, I'd be very hesitant to do so, and would do a ton more research into my local dealers before pulling the trigger.

Todd, what reports of major driveline failure do you refer to? This site and owners here?

Both Stinger forum and this G70 forum.

Strictly speaking about the 3.3: Transmission having to be replaced (one report of it "blowing up"), improperly installed transmission coolers, transmission randomly changing into neutral.

Also, the fact that some of us experience very harsh shifts while others don't is concerning to me. I suppose I just don't trust the transmission.

A lot of people are reporting issues related to their transmission. From what I can tell, it seems to be limited to regions that experience cold weather (aka I haven't seen any from California/Florida)

Edit: Looks like Todd beat me to the punch
