  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

So far so good on mine, been about a week now.

I wasn't sure about cross linking forums here, but it sounds like it's allowed.

General sunroof noises thread:

Sunroof rattle fix thread:

I don't doubt the possibility that some of the Genesis owners have noises coming from the headliner, but I suggest not eliminating the possibility of the noises being from the sunroof. The sunroof has a lot of mechanical and moving parts and is a highly likely source of noises. In new cars which have rather quiet interiors isolated from outside noises, it's hard to locate the true origin of an unwanted noises, it tends to sound like here or there.
(Question also goes to @mrcleeaan) So if my sunroof is open, I shouldn't hear a rattle if it is the same rattle described in that thread. Correct?

If my sunroof is all the way forward and tilted open, I get a ton of noise. If the glass is all the way up and slid back, I get no noise. I do get a little something for noise in rough parking lots with it open, that may or may not be the sunroof though.

I didn't go through the whole thread but for my car, yes, if I opened the sunroof (tilted), rattle went away.

For mine, the noise (slight rattle) does not go away if the sunroof is open or tilted.

Opened or closed, I had the noise. Just harder to hear with the wind noise when opened. So I rode with it open a bunch. Day 7 and no updates. It's turning cold and missing my heated seats! If they buy it back, going to search for a 2020 Savile Silver 3.3t Sport.

Is yours sunroof rattle or headliner popping? I'm too lazy to go back to re-read everything.

My headliner seems to be the culprit. I push up on drivers side headliner by grab handle and it seems to stop. Frustrating stuff as the car is perfect otherwise!

mine is a G80 sport tho

Hmm, that's the first time I've heard of it being on the driver's side. A number of us have this issue, but AFAIK it's always been on the passenger side. However they would seem to be symmetrical, so it seems like it could happen on either side. Is your noise temperature dependant (only happen on hot days)?

Headliner popping. They tried a repair "kit" originally, did not work. Popping got louder when it got hotter. They then replaced the entire headliner, requiring the front glass to be removed to install the new one. Did not fix.

***UPDATE*** ---- Just got the call. They will be submitting a repurchase offer in a couple days. This makes me feel like they do not know how to fix this issue yet...or just didn't want to spend another dime repairing mine. For the sake of everyone here, I hope they figure out how to resolve this issue soon!!! I'll have a few days to contemplate what I'll do next. Buy a 2020 model or shop elsewhere. Do I flip and get a Supra? Local Toyota has one at MSRP for $55k. I love the new Savile Silver though!

check out the supra's issues with wind buffeting before you buy. I bet that would annoy you more than a crackling sunroof

Is it really that bad that you would turn your car in over this? If you don't lose any money...go for the 2020 Savile...looks awesome.

Thankfully...I don't have this issue. But if I did...I think I would try to gerry rig something myself first (I know folks have tried).

If they hadn't already torn my car apart to replace the headliner, I might have tried something. But I feel my car was molested after that work and I started finding issues (dirt, loose rear grab handles, more noise). I love the U.S. Design Edition, but I love this new silver color more. So it works out to my advantage. I'll see what their buyback offer is and go from there.

Oh ok...I have lost track who has had work done, etc. What a mess.

I have no faith that those moving into 2020's will universally not have the same noise issue. I hoped when our Stinger member had his roof entire replaced and sent back to Korea (January 2019), they would reverse engineer the issue and have it fixed later. There are some new buyers with the new 2019 GTS, as far as I know some of the latest built 2019 models and they are having sunroof noises as well. To me, it seems the fix is still unknown. I'll be able to update more once I start playing with mine a bit more, but that won't be until spring when the temps start going up again.

I don't know if this issue has been fixed for the 2020 models but it will give you a new clean car to start with. I would do that if you aren't losing any money. Otherwise, even if it may sound like a headliner popping issue, I suggest trying the fix from the stinger forums. I'll provide more info/pics on my fix once I get home tonight.

Btw, love that new silver!
