Hello all, new to this forum.
So I have a question/experience to share regarding the Ultimate and lack of
CarPlay.
For 2 years, I've been really wanting to get a new car, but was holing off buying any new car until the car I liked had
Apple CarPlay (ACP?). I passed up a lot of nice cars that I liked, at good deals, because they didn't have
CarPlay thinking I'll wait till I like a car that has it.
I always thought the Genesis was nice, and liked Hyundai since I was driving a Sonata, but always kept it off my list since it didn't have
CarPlay.
Then I heard about the update, and checked the master list of cars with ACP on the Apple website, and was excited to see that the 2015/16 Genesis showed as supporting ACP. It says NOTHING about different trims not offering it. (Still shows this).
So this past Sunday (4 days ago) I went to the local Hyundai dealership, to see what kind of deals they're giving on the last 2016 Hyundai Genesis they have in stock, as well as what they'd give me on my trade in.
I specifically told the salesman that I held off on the Genesis and was considering other cars, because ACP was a major deal breaking feature for me. (I was given a great offer on the 2016 Maxima Platinum but declined and decided to check out the 2017's even though the lease deals were not nearly as good. I had also started negotiating prices on the 2017 A4). We talked about how much I love Apple stuff. I have the watch. I have the new iPhone 7. Etc etc.
The last Genesis they had in stock was an Ultimate, demo, which they were giving a great deal on. During the test drive, I asked if this car had the ACP update installed yet, and salesman said no, not yet, you have to sign up for BlueLink first, when you get home, you download it and you will have it. Cool I thought.
So I bought the car on the premise it has ACP. I don't think I would have even test drove it if I knew the Ultimates can't get ACP.
Only 2 days later when I tried to download the update did I find no updates on my BlueLink page, and after searching online, found this forum and other less obvious sources demonstrating that only Ultimates can't get ACP.
So obviously, I was pretty furious at the deceit and disappointed. Because otherwise, I LOVE this car! I almost thought it was too good to be true to get a car I liked this much, at a great price, with the one feature I've looked forward to for almost 2 years.
So I haven't spoken to the salesman yet, because he was off yesterday, but I'm really torn with what to do. On the one hand, I feel I was deliberately lied to (this is different than being promised an update later down the road - I was told the car I was buying supported ACP THAT DAY. All the while, he knew how important ACP was to me. And at no point did he take a minute to correct me that in fact the car I was test driving did not have this ability, and I should look for a signature/tech model instead (which did not have in stock).
So I ask all of you, half for advice, half just to vent.
I'm not sure what to do. I've had a few ideas.
1 - I actually think if I want to fight this, I have legal ground to take the car back and cancel the sale (it's been < 4 days, and was purchased based on false information). But at best, this would not be an easy process. They do not have any stock left of the 2016, and even if I wanted to pay premium price for the 2017 G80, they only have Ultimates in stock, which wouldn't help things.
However, other local dealers have a couple 2016 signature models left which I thought about test driving before buying this. Again, had I known about the ACP limitation of the Ultimates, I would have just gone straight to those dealers.
2- After having the car for a few days, I actually rather like the stock Nav DIS system. It's got clear images, and live traffic updates through XM Traffic (which is better than I thought it would be, much better than it was on my 2013 Sonata). And I especially like having with the HUD. I know the ACP wouldn't support that feature. I am learning about the Siri hands free features, and I know I can play my music w/ streaming or connecting the phone w/ USB, and can even use Pandora (which ACP doesn't support, I believe). So I'm trying to convince myself that despite 2 years of solidly focusing on having ACP, maybe it's not that big of deal anyway.
3 - I did lease it, so maybe I can see if they can arrange to transfer me out of this one and into one of the 2017 late model G80's at a good price which I've read here may have ACP in the Ultimates?
4- Lastly is probably the most realistic outcome, which is maybe I can get them to pay for the Connectivity BlueLink for the term of the lease, and pay for my map updates.
After thinking this over, and reading some of the other posts on the somewhat limited benefit of ACP, I think ultimately I'd probably be ok with option 4, but I wanted to reach out for any other suggestions/feedback? Should I fight this? If so, to what degree? Just makes me mad that there are dozens of cars out there I would have considered but turned down due to lack of ACP, then I unknowingly go out and buy a car w/ out it.
Anyone with ACP in their Genesis think it is a game changer for them? That would be worth giving up the features of the Ultimate if I even have that option?
Thanks everyone, and sorry for the very long post, especially since it's my first one.
