  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto NOT coming to Ultimate Genesis (2015, 2016)

To be honest, the thing I find frustrating aside from being mislead by the dealer when I bought the car and early reports from Hyundai that it would be available on all vehicles with a 8"+ screen is that it is being offered as a free download but other SW updates are not.

If you want to update any other software you have to buy a new map version which will run $150+. I don't necessarily have an issue with having to pay for the map update, that's been going on for in-car nav systems for years but they should disconnect that from the system updates (and maybe they will now as it seems they're doing so for AA and ACP). In today's environment with OTA updates for phones and other vehicles, that flexibility is expected and emphasis is only going to increase on that in the years to come.

I can live with not having ACP, but it would be nice to be able to fix other glitches/issues with the SW without having to drop more $$.

This 'article' sheds no new information whatsoever. We already know that everything except the Ultimate gets AA & CarPlay. This article only mentions the 8-inch screen which is consistent with what the Genesis currently has (short of the Ultimate).

I guess I must have missed it where it made a distinction between the Ultimate and Premium package and AA and CarPlay and indicated that one would get it and the other one wouldn't. Oh wait, that distinction wasn't there. Now whether it's not there because of the of the author's unawareness of the distinction or whether it's a legitimate reflection of the product feature matrix, but it IS potentially new information.

You're right, this may be new information but based on the article, it only mentions an 8-inch screen which I can not imagine would be used in the Ultimate. I don't believe they made any significant changes to the Genesis with the move to the G80 badging. My bet is on the author's unawareness. That said, I do expect Hyundai to figure out AA/CarPlay quickly as other manufacturers are making it standard across the board (Ford).

To add more fuel to the Apple CarPlay discussion about it ever being available on the 2nd gen Genesis Ultimate, check the following KDM 2017 G80 link posted in another thread:

https://www.genesis.com/kr/en/luxury-sedan-genesis-g80.html#

Scroll down to the Model & Price section, select the "3.8 Finest" model, and expand that model selection. Notice the last item listed under Key Spec is:

"DIS(blueLink2.0, 9.2" display, Apple CarPlay, bluetooth hands-free), Lexicon Premium Sound System (17 speakers, quantum surround logic), DVD Player"

That sure sounds like the same system provided in the 2015-16 Genesis Ultimate. Why can the Korean version be updated to CarpPlay and not the U.S. version??

Carplay is listed on all 4 models (1 has the 8" display/7 speaker system while the other 3 have the 9.2" display/17 speaker system). They also show an image of Carplay on the 9.2" Display:

The KDM EQ900 makes no such reference to CarPlay on any model:

I'd not assume that the KDM head unit is identical. There could be substantial hardware differences.

I'd join you in the celebration if it turned out that the recent comment from the phone rep is correct regarding "still working on the update" for Ultimate owners, but I suspect this may sadly be another instance of a phone rep taking some liberties in what they tell us. Hyundai has been pretty specific about the lack of compatibility due to hardware issues.

Not sure how many of you received a response from Hyundai, but after I wrote them a letter explaining my dissatisfaction, they sent $400.00 in service credits, to upgrade the maps on my 2015 Ultimate. While I'm not excited we most likely won't see CarPlay or AA, it was a great move on their part!

They paid for my map upgrade and offered 3 years of Google guidance package. Would much rather have CarPlay, but at least it's something.

I hope this post helps to explain the confusion. I have been able to talk to the Hyundai Korea Multimedia team which does the development for this and was told that on 2017 Feb release of G80 (DH PE model) in Korea and elsewhere, hardware behind the 9.2" screen has changed and therefore Apple Carplay and AA comes installed. But on the older Genesis(DH model), due to software/hardware incompatibility it is technically impossible to add Apple Carplay or AA. So I hope this settles once for all any hope of retroactive upgrade for 2015/2016 Ultimate Owners including me...

Thanks - but early G80 owners will be rightfully upset if Feb production includes AA/CarPlay with the 9.2" system as that would mean some 2017 Ultimates will have it and some won't = bad idea for PR.
