  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto NOT coming to Ultimate Genesis (2015, 2016)

cut and splice some files into the OS.

cant tell you how since I haven’t isolated the menu structure from the audio controls yet.
You was making it sound very simple. Just install Meego projector you stated, well apparently it is not that easy to modify the stock 2015/2016 Ultimate system to add CarPlay/Android Auto. However, nothing is impossible I suppose so I hope that you finger out how to integrate Carplay unto the older 2015/2016 Ultimate platforms.

I'm in if you can hack the 2015 ultimate to support Meego Projector for Android and Android Auto.

Assuming Sub can find a cost-effective way to pull this off, I'd say all of us would be "in". Heck, even a generous donation to his Christmas Fund would be in good order. Now let's leave Oz and his profound talents to focus on the work at hand lol.

Good luck Sub, we're all counting on you.🤞 Let us know if we can help in any way.

Indeed... If it were simple, someone would have already done it by now. I'd be curious on how to upload the "hack", if it can even be done by us "Average Joes"...

I'd pitch in but unfortunately, I'm a Data Center admin... I can't code worth a damn... lol. Technically, since MeeGo is Linux, it's entirely possible to code a new interface. One that has AA/CP and FLAC support... lol... Those 2 features are what prevents me from calling it the perfect car for me. If those are in the car, I may actually drive it until it dies for once rather than upgrading every 5 years.

I think loading the revised software would be the trickiest part of it... I'd brick it for sure!

if it is anything like some of the other makes, loading won't be an issue. back in 2006 we (me and several other mopar forum members) hacked the Chrysler units to remove the lockout when moving so you could enter addresses while in motion.

to side load it was pretty simple, the unit determined that if the version number on the DVD was greater than the version number installed it would start the load process. So we incremented the version by .1 so version 5.0 became version 5.1 and it would load.

since Navteq used whole number versions (i.e. V5, v6, v7, etc) when the next revision was released it would successfully overwrite our hacked version, and since the keys for the in motion lockout were the same, we would just re-patch the newest version. Technically the speed lockout was still there, we just changed it from 10mph to 99mph (would only allow 2 digits in the routine).

I must've burned 2,000 dvd copies of that for members over 5 years, as I had a dvd dual layer duplicator at work (would make 10 from a signal master in about 8 minutes).

A little more difficult with the SD chips, but I suspect if one figures out how to load ACP then all one has to do is create a sub version number outside of the one MapNSoft uses, this will allow it to load, without bricking the unit and still allow for future map updates, of course with each official update one would have to reapply the patch.

Do we know if the CPU is an Intel Atom or ARM? I grabbed the partition files from the other thread and it's definitely Linux. If it's an Atom, I might be able to boot the firmware up in a VM but if it's ARM, I'm not sure if there are any decent emulators out there.

Systems are 32-bit Atom processors.

I should get you a complete image to boot- I was having issues getting a disk image to save in my Linux environment though.

That would be great if you could. Either VHD or VMDK would do... or maybe even a Macrium Reflect image. Those should let me image it back to a physical disk more easily than a virtual disk image.
Ideally images for both the 2015 and 2018, see if I can spot the obvious differences between the two. But like I mentioned, I'm not a developer so I don't know how much I can do but you never know until you try.

I can already see one problem with doing it this way. If it works, it's not a simple update through the USB port. People will have to image a SSD and swap it out with the internal unit. Ratchets and screwdrivers will be involved. At least, people can't brick their units. The original SSD will be intact unless they wrote over it. Might be a good chance to increase the Jukebox storage too....

Well, I wouldn't mind having to update in a manual way especially if we can make updates and fix little things versus having to pay for a map update to get minuscule changes. Realistically, I don't mind having nav in the car for backup but I definitely rather have AA than the stock nav. Does anyone with a newer vehicle with AA, does the turn by turn on the HUD work?

not from AA or ACP only from the internal GPS. not aware of any car that has this ability with their oem HUD

I wonder how the HUD is connected to the HU and what it's capable of displaying. I wouldn't mind displaying the entire google maps screen on the HUD... lol

It looks to me like it displays specific predefined symbols and turns. Nothing ad hoc.

Yeah... it's not an "active" display. Just turns elements on/off as needed.

As the owner of a 2015 Ultimate and a software developer, I would be interested in taking a stab at it as well. Do you have the 2015 and 2018 images?

Thank you!

Ditto. I'm also a Dev. If we get other dev's together and get some working VMs and decompile and or RevEng some things, we could have some significant successes.
