  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Coupe Brembo Retrofit

I have a '14 Equus, which has 4 piston front calipers made by a company named "Mando". Mando is an oem supplier. I bought Genesis coupe Brembo calipers on eBay, hoping they would fit. They do not fit the Equus.
Incidentally, there should be virtually no stopping improvement between the Mando 4 piston calipers and the Brembo 4 piston caliper - physics is virtually the same. Brembos are aluminum and Mando are steel. Both are of the same basic construction. Did not actually weigh them on a scale, but in my hand they feel very close to the same weight.

Did you buy the rotors for the Brembos as well? I haven't done this swap but they should bolt right up as long as you have the calipers, brake pads and rotors from what I've gathered.

What Flarfignewton said is a correct statement, you would need the correct rotors too. If you put the caliper on the existing rotor it is most likely the reason it didn't fit. Same would be true if I tried to install my Brembos onto my factory rotors for my Genesis.

My Equus fitment attempt: The Equus rotors are too large in diameter. Equus and Genesis (4.6&5.0) have different part numbers for brake rotors.

14+ is a Mando monoblock caliper as well, not the multipiece design of years earlier.

Also the Coupe Brembo front rotors are considerably smaller than the 14+ Equus in diameter, so it is a downgrade.

Ed: You had helped me out (through this thread) a while back on installing the coupe Brembos on my 2014 R-Spec. I'm sad to report the car was totaled by some idiot who ran a red light and t-boned me!

Good news is I now have a 2018 G80 Sport. I haven't seen anyone on this thread post about the retrofit on a 2G sedan....do you know if everything is a direct swap?

It should be, I have not seen anything change since 2015 with the monoblock Mando 4-piston front caliper and larger rotors carrying over from the Equus, but the steering knuckle has remained unchanged since 2009 (Exception being the AWD variants). Have not found any 2018 part numbers yet to confirm that nothing has changed yet again. Picture-wise best I can tell it's using the same calipers/rotors as it has been since 2015.

Freddy Harris is planning on doing a Brembo swap on his 2G.

Again, as stated above, on a 2G with the monoblock Mandos, you are downsizing your front rotors. My personal recommendation for those with the monoblock Mandos are to get Brembo rears alone, send the Mandos and Brembos out to a powdercoater for whatever color and lettering/emblem you want on them and find a more aggressive pad for the fronts. Alternatively, Brembo makes a 6-piston front set in the aftermarket for the Genesis Coupe/Sedan front for a few grand that are as large, if not slightly larger than your factory rotors.

I am way late to this thread, picked up a 2012 recently. Just bought some coupe 19s, all four are rears and looking at this modification.

Brembos are a bit cheaper on eBay now. Very tempting. For those that still have their cars, or had it for a while with the brembos, any long term issues? I can't see why but just asking is all.
