  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driver seat issues and dealership woes

I will say, this isn't just a Genesis thing. When I was looking at the Giulia, the salesman there mentioned that they give you a loaner if you need service, but that their loaner fleet was mostly Chrysler minivans.

I had a Giulia. I had a minivan for weeks while the car was in the shop, for a radio boot loop (just like the Genesis), that my girlfriend named Carol.

I mean the REAL reason I bought an Italian sports sedan was so I could be seen driving a minivan....

Hah! Carol. Perfect name for a minivan.

Called to drop off my G70 for a radio boot loop issue. They were hesitant to offer a loaner also...had to have the service manager approve it!

Then mentioned they'd be sure to quote me the cost to fix it before starting the work o_O
I'm not sure if this is the cause of YOUR issue, but I present this anecdotally to paint a broader picture.

A few Stinger owners are also reporting radio boot loop issues. A few of them were in the Houston area and seemed to be listening to the same HD radio station. When the station turned off their HD signal (analog only), the boot loop didn't occur. If the Stinger owners switched to other media, the boot loop didn't occur.

I follow that forum because I am considering both the Stinger and the G70 for my next vehicle.

Just an update. I took the car for my 230 scheduled and confirmed appointment. Again they asked if I was dropping off or need the shuttle... I reminded them that I am entitled to a loaner. They said they dont have any available... then after wasting an entire day because I scheduled around this appointment and then spent another 20 minutes arguing about a loaner, they informed me that their genesis tech departed at noon and therefore couldn't work on the car. I'll have to wait two weeks after I get back from a work trip. Wtf

If this is going to be the norm, I'm seriously considering licking my wounds and getting rid of the car.

^ I can certainly see why you feel that way. Do you have any other dealers within the Valet area that you can use?

Does Genesis have regional or corporate managers that we can report these dealer issues to, or do they not really have a good management infrastructure in place yet?

The best would be to contact Genesis Customer Service, there are regional managers but Customer Service is a good entry point and issues can get escalated when needed.

I certainly hope you've relayed this to Corporate as that is unacceptable. I'd be looking for a different dealer. Hope you can find a better one.

I called the Genesis customer care line and spoke to a nice representative. She was very disappointed, took my info, assigned me a case number, and said she was going to contact the dealership personally as well as forward to her supervisor. Other than apologizing and documenting, nothing much else.

She gave me the info on another dealership about 25 mins away that is within the valet range. I've spoken with them before, and they seemed better but still wish washy. Will have to see.

I dont plan to use the valet because I dont want someone else driving the car but a loaner and solid appointments that dont waste my time would be good.

She also told me that in the future I can call the Genesis customer care line and they will schedule and arrange appointments for me. She acknowledged that they are still working on the dealer website scheduling apps because they dont yet offer valet or loaner options on the maintenance scheduling sections.

How was your overall experience with Genesis customer service? Would you recommend them?

Yes, very nice, attentive, and professional; at least the woman I spoke with.

I think that Genesis dealership who gave you the run around and poor customer service should get a scathing review and reported to the BBB.

Update: The less than stellar ownership experience continues thanks in part to horrible dealership experiences.

My local dealership finally scheduled my appointment to fix my grinding seat. I actually got a loaner but was treated like I was lucky to be given one.

Few hours later, dealership calls and says they cant find the part. So, i took the car home to wait while they ordered another one. Apparently they dont have many parts in the US. Had to wait 3 weeks for seat motor to come from Korea.

Finally shows up and had to take the day off because no loaner this time. They said they had none available but I could wait.

I requested a walk around with service rep because I explained that the car is pristine and expected it to stay that way. He said, well, we have to remove the seat. "And? I would appreciate that the techs take extra care and not scratch or damage the leather." He laughed and winced. Told me he cant make any promises. This is the Genesis luxury experience?

I took an uber home.

Few hours later, service manager called and said they removed the seat and motor, put it back together but the motor they ordered was the wrong one and not for memory seats. He said they called corporate and was told that they dont have replacement parts for a G70 with memory seats. What?! Said they have to send tech data to Korea and wait for research and a response.

At least they didnt scratch the leather, but they did gouge and scratch the plastic running board, tore my new window tint, left greasy finger prints all over the doors and leather.

I told them I would be replacing the tint and sending them the bill. He told me they didnt do it, so wouldn't be paying for it. It's about $50. Any other luxury car I've ever had, they wouldn't have thought twice about paying and they never left greasy fingerprints inside or out.

I've never been treated like this by any dealership luxury or not. Total incompetence also. Even more frustrating that the OEM supposedly doest have any replacement parts in stock for these cars.

Would you mind to tell us where are you located? That dealer behavior is not uncommon here in South Florida. I think until Genesis will completely separate from Hyundai and make standalone dealers we will continue seeing all this BS.

Unbelievable, and totally unacceptable. I am so sorry for you that this happened.

For those numerous ones of you who have had Hyundai products previously or Genesis as a Hyundai brand, was this common in our experience? The carelessness, negligence, incompetence?

Yes, as said before is common here in South Florida which is one of the biggest Hyundai/Genesis market in USA.

Five cars, twelve years, three dealers. Nope, never had a problem like that.

We bitch when we do and some of the problems are atrocious. Fact is, other dealers are just as bad. My worst experience was a Mercedes dealer. Unfortunately is is a crap shoot with any of them.
