If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Free Map Update Is Here!!!!!!!

I had my map updated on my 3,8 2010 Tech Sedan it took 3hrs. But I do not think it was completed correctly. My map version is 02.03.2008/04/26/08 and I did not loose any contact information. Can someone that has had a 2010 tech updated please check their map version so I might compare. My build date is Aug 15 2009 and I purchased in Nov 2009.

Thanks for the help,

Fiat

Did you pay for the update? I thought it only applied to limited 2009's.

There was a TSB from earlier this year to update the software in the DIS/Nav system, but it only addressed the operating software, not the mapping software.

Yes the update that they did was TSB-09-01-038 it didn't do a thing that I could see.

I have a 2010 4.6 and I didn't lose any presets but my data date changed to 4/30/10

Fiat.
You have the original version. NO NEW UPDATE was installed. Damn...Hyundai really are a disgrace in customer relations !

Why?? Because 1 or 2 of the hundred on here had a problem??? That's probably under 5% had/have an issue. Don't turn something into a negative when it isn't:grouphug: Questions?? Contact Flyboy:D

I did not pay and they also installed the 08-BE-010 tilt/telescope limit swwitches.

An update on my progress (or lack thereof) in self-installing the Mapping Update I purchased.

I called MapSoft and their Customer Service agent gave me the Authentication Code I needed and he also warned that at the end of the install it may ask for a 'Key' number, which he also gave me. Since I had already installed the first of 3 DVD's (Canadian version has only 3) I asked if I could just resume or did I have to start from scratch - the instructions seem to suggest that you cannot stop once you have started. He told me I should be able to just continue with DVD #2.

I tried this and was able to successfully enter the Authentication code, but after about 40 mins it stopped loading with an error. I reset the unit and tried again, same thing. Decided to start from scratch with DVD #1 in case that was the problem but same results. Called Mapsoft again and they said they were sending me a new set of DVD's as they had issued a new version due to problems with the version I had. I asked if my Presets and Phone Numbers etc would be retrieved after the update and was told that no, the update resets everything to factory settings and all customer settings and info would be lost  I'm reading here that some people retained their data and others lost theirs so who knows

Will post again when I get the new DVD's.

If you run an 2010 and are doing just the map update, you don't lose your presets if you are upgrading the software/map on an 2009, you lose the presets...

I went to the Punte Hill Dealer for oil change on Aug 12. The service writer offer me the free update that I did not know before I want in. I waited there for 5 hrs, so he gave me a loaner. He told me the update was failed due to internet problem ( I found out myself later it was DVDs). At the end of the day he called me said still no luck. I picked up the car next morning. He told me they have to order a new navi unit for my car with no ETA of the unit. Now it is almost 4 wks, they still do not know when can they get the navi unit. I will suggest you not to update the map. It has too much risk. Even they put a new unit in for you, I wonder how well is the dealer's craftmanship in this kind of complex repair. I talked to the mechanic (at that dealer), he told me they stop all the Genesis map update since they failed to update my car. I think that is what your Dealer is experiencing now. Pls think twice before you let them update the map.

Almost the same story for me. My "Head Unit" quit when the technician was removing the six discs from the disc player (head unit). After the first disc was removed, the disc player froze up. After I got home, tried the disc player, and all was fine. Just one of those computer problems with these cars that fix themselves after being off for a while. Well, the technician did not want to do the P06 upgrade with this head unit in place as he is worried that it will freeze up again with a P06 disc in it. Sooooooo, they ordered me a new "Head Unit". That was over four weeks ago. Backordered!!!!!! Still has not come in.

I know there is nothing wrong with my Head Unit. Just one of these Genesis electronic glitches, but my technician does not want to do the P06 upgrade until the new Head Unit is installed.

I'm thinking of taking the car to my closest dealer and have him do the update. Will talk with them tomorrow. If the backordered head unit does not come into my selling dealer, I just may have my closest dealer do the job with my present head unit WHICH HAS NEVER GIVEN ME PROBLEMS.

When they say they are going to replace the Head Unit be aware that you may not be getting a new unit. I can only speak for Canada, but shortly after I got the car the centre trim of the volume knob broke off. After several attempts to order a new knob they ended up changing the whole head unit with a 'refurbished' (repaired) replacement. The reason I knew it was refurbished was because when I switched it on there were phone numbers and Nav addresses for some other owner still in the memory. The dealer told me that Hyundai Canada only provides refurbished units for warranty replacements. In the end I persauded them to replace my original Head Unit and transfer the knob from the refurbished unit - rocket science eh?!

As you said, you may be better off with your original head unit.

Just purchased a CPO 2009 Genesis 3.8 with Tech package. Checked the Nav Date and it is the original 2008 map. Anyone tried to get the update if you are not the original owner? Furthermore, if it was truly "Certified" then why wouldn't they have done the upgrade?

I would definitely go back to your dealer and ask them to install the 'free map update'. If your vehicle is eligible then it shouldn't cost them anything as they can bill Hyundai USA.

Visited my closest dealer (12 miles from me) this morning. Was ready to make an appointment to have them do the P06 update. After talking with their Service Manager, I changed my mind. He would not let me talk with the tech that would do the job, plus he would not take me back into the shop, escorted, to talk with him. Also, even if I make an appointment, they would not let me have a loaner car for the day. Yep, you heard it correct, Jenkins Hyundai in Leesburg, will not let me have a loaner car unless my car would be in service for more than a day. Needless to say, I did not make an appointment with them.

When I left, I telephoned the Service Manager at Orlando Hyundai, (30 miles away) who is my normal servicing dealer. Told him that I want the P06 upgrade done this week and also told him how my favorate tech does not want to do the upgrade until after my Head Unit was replaced. Told him that there is nothing wrong with my Head Unit and tested it many times inserting cd's, playing them, and then removing them. Because the Head Unit had a "Brain Fart" when the tech was going to do the P06 over a month ago, the tech does not want to do the update with my present Head Unit. Everything that is controlled by my Head Unit works great, and I don't want it changed, (not to mention that Head Units are on backorder). Service Manager said he will talk with the tech and would call me back tomorrow. I do want to get the P06 upgrades later this week, plus they already told me they would give me a loaner for the day.

If he does not phone me by noon tomorrow, I will call him.

Yes, I did get the update on my 2009 CPO Genesis 3.8 and I'm the second owner. It shouldn't matter if your the second or 49th owner, if you take it in and you're car falls under the update, they should do it.

As for the CPO status, they just check out the car, I don't think they look for all the available updates and do them, at least they didn't with mine.

I took my Genesis in to get the update. All seemed to be going well but the service manager came about 30 minutes later and told me I'm not eligible because I previously had a free map update back in April. He said that I was only entitled to one update even though I brought the PDF that was posted in this thread and it made no mention of any restrictions.

Can I call someone to get this free update "approved"? Any suggestions? I have to go back in later this week to get my backup cam replaced anyway and would like to get them to do this update for me as well.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I went to the dealer and asked for the third time if they had the P06 update. He said that Hyundai told him not to install the update in any car until they corrected the problems that they are having with the install. Has anyone else received a reply like this or is he just making it up?

I just had my Nav Update completed on my 2009 Genesis 4.6. It took the head genesis technician 2 days, and 4 attempts to complete the install. He was on the phone almost 20 different times to both Hyundai and Mapnsoft. He was very frustrated to say the least. The dealership was great though. I had a loaner the entire time, and they kept me up to date on the status when it was going to take longer than expected.

I could see Hyundai putting a stop to the TSB until the problems with the install that exist are solved, but my dealership didn't have this directive as of today.

While they had the car, they also did the tilt/telescope wheel, and ECM update completed.

Went to Orlando Hyundai this morning at 8am. My favorate Genesis Technician started the P06 update a few minutes later. Update was completed just before noon. (Yes, just before noon).

When I took the car in, I told the tech that he did not have to record the am/fm/xm/phone-numbers/navi-locations, as I have already written them down, and he did not have to enter them back into the system as I would do it when he was finished. (This was to save him time).

Everything went great. He did check to see if I lost the Bluetooth connection, but I still had it, so we did not have to pair (sp) the bluetooth again, but the phone numbers were not there. On my way home, I saw that the GPS Maps now show newer roads, compared to the former map. Once home, I re-entered all my am/fm/xm and the phone numbers and navi locations. Did not take me long at all, and this saved the technician a lot of time. All is operating great.

Did I say I was in and out in less than four hours? My Genesis Tech knows what he is doing. BTW, he kept the car on a charger connected to the posts under the hood.

I should add, for anyone in the Central Florida area, or anyone who is going to visit or is a "Snow Bird", and who thinks their home dealer Service Technician is not up to the task of doing the P06, I highly recommend visiting Orlando Hyundai's Service Department to do the job. If you live close enough, you can just take a chance and drive there and make an appointment (they may even do it that day). If you telephone them, connect to Service. When the girl answers (she is only an appointment taker) ask her to connect you to a Service Writer (Salim, Eric or Allen), then make your appointment with them. Make sure that their Genesis/Equus trained Technician Mark will do the job. He is the best. (1-800-453-1505 or 407-578-5337)

Reading previous posts, I see all the problems some dealers are having doing the P06 update. Mark has done a few, and he knows what he is doing, and he does it in minimum amount of time and does not have problems doing the update.

BTW, make note that this is only for 2009 Tech cars, sold before sometime in February 2009. (I bought mine in January 2009). If you give the Service Writer your VIN, he can check it to inform you if your car is included in the program.

Again, to save the Technician (Mark) time, I wrote on a sheet of paper, all the radio settings (am/fm/xm), Navi addresses, and phone numbers that were in the system, as they will be lost in the update. Instructions for Tech is to write all this information down before he starts the job, then to re-enter it after the update. I just saved him time by re-entering the information once I got home.

Lastly, NO, I'm not on their payroll. :D :p ;)

I did take my '09 Genesis in this past Friday. I had provided the bulletin to my sales rep (just purchased it Certified on 9/18/10) and they scheduled me right away.

I am happy to report that it worked fine. No issues. The map data is as of 4/10 I believe and I now enjoy the capability of Random Songs or Random Artists with my iPhone 4 plugged in as my iPod. They reset my radio stations for me and while my Phone Book was gone I didn't have that many numbers in there anyway. My bluetooth connection remained. I also had to reset (no surprise) my home and work map locations.

Arapahoe Hyundai in Denver rocks. Enjoyed driving a 2010 model as a loaner but didn't have the tech package... glad I was able to get one with it as it makes all the difference.
