  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 Sport - discoloration of the dark chrome trim around the doors

after much research and frustration with you all, I found the fix:

Ordered this stuff from Amazon- arrived this morning, Just tested 30 minutes ago- paper towel- hand buff on- rub off- waited 30 minutes before posting and still perfect where I tested, not a spot or stain to be found. So I'm going to do the rest of the car, this will save us from the dealer frustrations, screw em. Post your success story and love looking at your 3.3T again :)
Hey Rahjelli.

Ever get through the rest of your trim on the car?

How's it holding up?

Would seem any amount of polish will remove the exterior coating on the trim pieces and alter the luster/tint of the trim relative to other components. Right now the window trim, door handles and grill components all match for dark chrome tint.

Hey team.

Update, purchased and used the Meguiar's stuff on my trim and it is a solid choice.

Definitely doesn't clear up as much as the BK did but it isn't nearly as harsh, less chance of scratching, and with a few swipes of this product about 80% of my spots were gone and I would imagine it will keep the dark color lasting longer than the BK.

I do recommend it if your trim is discolored and spotted like mine was.

We had our trim replaced twice already and it needs it again. It's horrible looking.
I wonder if applying something like a ceramic coating on the new molding would prevent the staining and discoloration. I’ve applied it to our G70 but it’s only been a couple of months. We’ll see what a coupla years brings.

Appreciate your letting us know how it goes. Thinking of doing the same for my 2019 White G80 Sport with 17K miles and am not sure how much push back I'll get. Showing them this string should help.

I used a wet magic eraser on my G70 Sport, rubbed lightly until it all came off, it worked, did not scratch and did not remove the dark chrome finish.

Zero push back, it is a 100% warranty issue. I have various pieces replaced twice now with no issues from my dealer.

Thanks, that’s good to know. I’ll contact my dealer and also glad to hear about the wet magic eraser approach in case. It really is inexcusable that they did not realize the trim would discolor/oxidize after such a short period of time. Geez.

While I'll admit that does look better than mine, it's obviously a lighter color than the door handles, trim pieces on front fenders, around the mirrors, front grill, etc...

Submitted a claim via my local dealership and they are replacing the trim.

So I took my car to the dealership yesterday morning to have the trim replaced (They billed Hyundai $2500 for the work) and they are still shipping these parts with that rubber protective film, that when removed, damages the trim. So two of the pieces they replaced yesterday have to be RE-placed again, as the rubber protective film won't come off.

This enabled me to bring to the attention of the service manager that the trim I had replaced was damaged by the manufacturer and not by me taking the car through car washes, as he initially stated when I requested the warranty work.

The biggest issue I have right now is that FOR WHATEVER REASON there must have been a tech in my backseat as BOTH small rear corner windows had their tint removed and nobody can tell me who or why it was done + I found a large beach towel size shop towel out-stretched over my rear-passenger seat. So this will be a to be continued moment...

The dealer did some unauthorized work to your car on their own and won’t live up to it? That’s no bueno. I’d be pissed for sure and make them reapply new window tint. Even if the tint was too dark or not technically allowed on that window the dealer had no right to remove it.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the tint on the small rear windows needs to be removed when replacing the trim pieces.

You're not wrong. Those small windows are kinda bonded with trim. They needs to be replaced as well. I'll have to put the new tint on mine again. Done that 2 years ago and I'll be doing it again tomorrow.

Any updates on your replacement of the trim?

The rear most window is replaced with the trim. Tinting it is on you.
