Genesis Free NACS Adapter Thread: Post Your Updates

I got mine today. It's nice they provided a case. I wonder about the original application for that case. It has pouches and elastic retainers and even a little reinforced slot on the back. A lot went into it.
I also compared the Genesis adapter to a Lectron (non-Ford) adapter I have.
Genesis: 2lb. 5oz
Lectron: 2lb. 2oz
The Lectron definitely has micro switches on both the CCS latch and NACS latch
The Genesis only seems to have it on the CCS latch. I have not confirmed with an electrical test.
The Genesis NACS latch is a bit easier to access.
Genesis (left) Lectron (right)
Excellent! Thank you for the detailed post and pictures. The Genesis adapter has some meat on it's "bones." Very chunky compared to the Lectron.

Honestly the L2 NACS to J1772 adapter is the better bang for the buck adapter for road tripping. When road tripping I will book hotels that have L2 charging for their guests and I make sure to tell the desk that. It is about a $30 value to wake up to a full battery. Most hotels with chargers will have NACS units and most will have only one J1772. Since I usually see 3 NACS to 1 J1772 at hotels that have chargers, I use my adapter and leave the J1772 for someone who doesn't have and adapter.
Check out EVDANCE that is the one I use and it has been rock solid. They have giveaways nearly every holiday. I currently have their L1/L2 charger, a L2, 40 amp mobile charger and their adapter. All have been great.

Pay the man!

Are you talking about the 49 stall location at 101 West Avenida Vista Hermosa? That location does not support non Tesla vehicles. When I look in the Tesla app that location doesn't show up (because I've told the app I have a GV60). You can also look it up on the Tesla web site and see that it is missing the "Adapter Required for All EVs" tag. You also can tell just be looking at the icon. The charging bolt icon is for Tesla vehicles only, the NACS station show a NACS plug icon.

It's ironic that this location doesn't support NACS because that is the location Hyundai used for the photograph in their initial announcement that they would be supporting NACS, back in Oct 2023. If you look closely you can see that the vehicles aren't plugged in.

Love the irony. Apple? No informative icons on what I see in Android. I did rely on the site description in T app that says a partner site so very much appreciate the better ways to check.

I wrote to A2Z to inquire as to when the DC cable extension would be ready for sale. They responded and advised they hope to start selling it by June or July. The estimated cost may be $200 to $250 (US). I'll buy it just for the convenience of being able to pull into any Tesla charging space and not worry about taking up two spaces or waiting for a specific sided stall to open up.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Please come back and post about your experience if/when you get your hands on the extension cable.

I had a recent road trip where I had my Ford Adapter as a backup but EA was flawless. Peaked at 235 kWh and averaged 180 from a a ~20-80 SOC. In and out in less than 30 min and $0 with my charging plan.

Really hope to avoid the hassle (ha!) of Tesla charging but really glad I have the option in a pinch.

The different icons are visible in the web site, not the app.

There are 4 Tesla stations in San Clemente. Two of them are NACS stations, and two of them are not. The web site shows all four of these locations, with different icons depending on whether or not NACS is supported. Since you've told the Tesla app that you own a GV60, it only shows NACS stations. Your screen shot shows the to NACS locations. The 49 stall location at 101 West Avenida Vista Hermosa is not shown at all in your screenshot. Here's a screen shot from the Tesla web site showing all four stations in San Clemente, you can see that your map only shows the two with the plug icon.

I'm guessing that maybe you simply went to the outlet mall (below the word MARBLEHEAD on this map) on your own because you'd seen the chargers there, and figured you knew how to get there without using navigation. But if you look closely at that map, the outlet mall is on the ocean side of the 5 freeway. There is no icon on that side of the freeway on that map. The Tesla station that does support NACS is a mile or two inland from the 5 freeway, as shown on both this web map and the map you posted from the Android app.

The takeaway is that the best approach is to always start in the app, and use that to navigate to the station. Otherwise you may to end up at a station that won't work.

Its now 19MAY & I still have not received an email. Has anyone received an email or a NACS adapter yet?

Thank you and too funny @gvjim, pretty much how I got there.... there are 2 chargepoint 125 fast chargers in that lot I frequent and "I'll just take my new adapter over to the Tesla stalls and test it out.". @gvjim , Again many thanks to a forum OG, thanks for sharing knowledge!

Now that's something I didn't know. That could be a convenient location to pick up a bit of charge when driving back from San Diego, which I did yesterday. Are they reliable? Do you frequently have to wait? You say there are 2, but the ChargePoint app says there are 5 there - is that wrong? Right at this moment it says there is one in use, 3 available, and 1 "unknown".

thanks to a forum OG
That's funny, I've only had an EV for 13 months, so I consider myself a Johnny-come-lately. But I did enthusiastically dive into my EV homework, so maybe that makes me seem more like a OG.

Hey if you're local, you should come to EV Fest in a couple of weeks in Long Beach (May 31). It was great fun last year, but I had the only GV60 there.

The 125 is shared, charger #6 & next to 6. There are a few 62.5, some 9s(?) And at least one new one not yet activated (i think 62). I usually go early 6-7-8am, and so have never waited - always reliable. Crap, one of these days we'll do the in real life thing but have to be in the Valley on the 31st.

Its now 19MAY & I still have not received an email. Has anyone received an email or a NACS adapter yet?

Some have already received their adapters and have posted in the thread with photographs. Please look through earlier replies.

In terms of not receiving an email, there are plenty of us in here who are still waiting so welcome to the club.

Still NOTHING but marketing and OTA reminder emails from GMA! 23 GV60P. Some luxury division - my friends with EV6s and Ioniq5s have had their free adaptors for weeks now. LAME GMA.

I received the same email letting me know that an OTA update is available that adds wireless CarPlay and Genesis Pay… still no email about the adapter and my friends have also received theirs from Hyundai.

Genesis consistently misses the mark as a luxury division. You’d think they would try harder to set their brand above Hyundai/Kia in customer service and instances like this.

Wow, so much WHINING on this thread. Sure, it's too bad Genesis doesn't hit the luxury mark like Mercedes, which charges $185 for the adapter. 😳 And it's not even clear if it's available for sale yet - the Mercedes web site currently says "Mercedes-Benz EV customers will be notified in early 2025 when adapters are available to purchase through an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer." As for other luxury brands, well, no news yet from Porsche, Audi or BMW. It took Ford and Rivian the better part of a year to roll out their free adapters. I don't see that so far Genesis has been particularly better or worse than other manufacturers on this, and definitely better than some in that they are providing the adapters for free. (BTW, I haven't received an adapter or an email so far.)

I don't disagree with your comparison's between Genesis and those other brands. But, personally, my issue is that I expect Genesis owners to get some additional priority over the KIA and Hyundai customers. If nothing else, the sheer volume difference would make it easy to knock out the Genesis customers first. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation.

And besides, if it wasn't for whining, how would these forums succeed?

Same - except, I also haven't received any emails about OTA updates . Did everyone get that? I have a 2023 GV60 Performance and already have CarPlay. Was it a 2025 specific update?

Couldn't agree more with this statement. Genesis is a standalone brand at this point but the Hyundai/Kia influence is obviously still strong and they are clearly co-dependent on parts and the E-GMP platform.

I'm still very pissed that my 2023 has HDA1 when it was initially advertised as having HDA2 and HDA2 made it into some 2030 GV60s but got pulled because of chip shortages. That is understandable, but HDA2 still made it into 2023 Hyundai IONIQ's that weren't even the highest trim level???

They don't sell enough GV60s vs EV6/IONIQ's to worry about us. Sales volume is king.

Has anyone that are NOT first owners of a GV60 get emails / adapters? I asked our dealership about this but they said there weren't anything specified. We're second owners of a GV60 2023 Performance in IL - no emails yet.. :/

Still nothing but looks like genesis is selling the?

That web site is not Genesis USA, but rather a third party company with no actual connection to Genesis. I'm kind of surprised they can get away with using the logo. (BTW, the price on that adapter is way too high.)

Lectron sells the adapter in question on their website for almost half the cost. If you are going to buy the Vortex, I'd buy it straight from the manufacturer:
