The midsize lux sedan segment isn't slow in Korea; it's by far the largest segment.
The fact that the G80 (despite its age) is only down 6.9% compared to last year is pretty impressive.
EQ900 sales are down in large part due to the sales of the new K900 doing so well.
As for the US, yes - lux sedan sales are down, but the article totally ignores that Genesis sales are down as much as they are b/c of the delay in launching the '19MY and the halt of shipments of the '18 back in spring.
Genesis may have over-estimated the market for smaller lux sedans in Korea; but still, the G70 is doing about on par what the German competition is doing in that segment.
Where the Germans have the edge is more variety in the powertrain dept., in particular, electrification.
Not sure what you mean by segment that is sagging - as lux CUVs have yet to make major headway in the Korean market.
K900 sales are way, way up and have more than made up for the decline in G90 sales.
At minimum, the G70 and G80 need a hybrid variant pronto; the new 2.5T wouldn't hurt either.
You make several god points. I think the major flaw in my reasoning was that I wasn't thinking specifically about the Korean market, which the article addressed. Thanks for the corrective input.
