Genesis Korea June Sales
As seen in the post about 1st half year sales in Korea, Genesis (and esp. Genesis + Kia lux) sales have done pretty well in comparison to the Germans, despite having a more limited lineup and powertrains.
The G80, despite its age, has been outselling the E Class and 5er (5er sales will tank for the east of the year as BMW struggles to deal w/ the fire issue), and the EQ900 has outsold the S Class and 7 Series.
As noted, EQ900 sales have slipped, but that's primarily due to the new K9 selling well.
Genesis probably would like to see the G70 do better (or not drop too far from the 1k/month it had been doing), but compact lux sedans don't sell nearly as well as the mid-size segment.
The fact the G80 is still selling relatively well despite it nearing the end of its life-cycle is a good thing and the when the next gen model launches, should see a spike in sales.
Right now, the EQ900 is overly affected by K9 sales, but when the facelifted model launches, should be able to claw back some marketshare.
The Germans have been really aggressive in Korea (it's one of their most profitable markets) when it comes to pricing lately, hoping to further increase market-share (BMW's fire issue should put a damper on things for now).
What Genesis needs is more fuel efficient powerplants to better compete against the Germans (and even Lexus - hybrid Lexus models have been gaining traction).
The upcoming new 2.5L turbo should help things; even more so if it is tied to a hybrid system (even if just a 48V mild hybrid).
In Japan (which has 3x the pop. size),
none of the IS, GS or LS hits
500/month in sales.
In fact, the only Lexus models that hit the 500 sales mark are the NX and CT (and not always).
Poor RWD Lexus sales are alleviated by sales of the Toyota Crown series (which sells a lot better); which is why Toyota recently launched the new Crown and why the GS may be seeing the last of its days.
