  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

I agree the build quality and attention to detail are excellent with the GV70. That said, the driving dynamics of the X3 M40i were superior enough to tilt the scale in the BMW's favor in my decision making process. The GV70 is a compelling product though for sun
No question the BMW is an excellent driving car, but when you compare the GV70 to it on an overall basis, the GV70 wins, IMO.

I think it just depends on what you prioritize and there's no wrong answer. I can see a lot of people choosing the GV70 over the X3 because if its style (inside and out), fit and finish, and superior tech. But, for me, driving them back to back, the powertrain and handling of the X3 M40i prevailed. I figure I better enjoy the driving dynamics as much as I can before the total demise of the ICE.

The GV70 drives very well, responsive, good handling, . Again, when finish, dependability, tech, style (both inside and out), as well as driving, the GV70 wins hands down. We could have really bought anything - Porsche Macan, BMW X3 M40i, Mercedes, etc. When all things were considered, the GV70 was the clear choice.

We could have bought a BMW X3M40, Q5, Macan, GLC, etc… when all things are considered (handling, interior finish, exterior styling, sound system, etc.), the GV70 wins. And the icing on the cake is that its price is at least 10k less than iits closest competitior‘s price.

The price delta isn't that much on the X3 M40i. Similarly equipped, the BMW is about $68-$70k before dealer discounts which are currently running about 5-7% off MSRP. So, when you take that into consideration, the pricing difference isn't much at all and will likely be made up on residual value when it's time to sell.

Residual value did not factor into our decision making process.

The GV70 is an excellent driving car, and much more refined and luxurious than the BMW.

Like I said, the GV70 is a really nice product. If you want more of a luxury oriented cruiser with a world-class interior, it's an excellent choice. However, my priorities are more slanted towards a dynamic performer, and the X3 M40i is objectively a better choice in that regard. If you drive them back to back you'll feel the difference in powertrain and handling as they are very pronounced.

It's great we have such a variety of excellent products to choose from.

If refinement, luxuriousness, style AND handling are all important, the GV70 wins. If handling is the only factor in your decision-making process, then perhaps the BMW wins. With that said, the GV70 is an excellent driving vehicle.

Like I've said, it's a nice product and I seriously considered it. I think maybe it just depends on what you're coming from and what your used to as far as driving dynamics are concerned.

I think Genesis will be more successful with conquest buyers who are currently in Lexus/Acura/Infiniti products versus the German competitors.

I've always heard Porsches are built relatively well but I do not have first hand experience with that like I do with the others. Plus the GV70 looks similar to the Macan in my opinion haha. A family member has a 2020 Audi Q5 and it does not even compare in quality. The closest in build quality that I know of is Lexus, but everyone knows that already. Hence why Genesis is modeling Lexus's strategy the best they can and I think they are succeeding in doing so.
Modeling Lexus as in building high quality to build reputation?

Well, I was at the stand-alone Santa Monica dealership over a two day period and I can tell you it was attracting everyone. They had trade-ins on the lot from Mercedes and Lexus. They had prospective buyers pulling in in BMWs, and even a McLaren. The McLaren owner was test driving the GV80 and G90. So, I saw first hand the type of attention the stand alone was attracting. The limiting factor is the Hyundai dealerships. Doubtful McLarens will be pulling into Hyundai dealerships anytime soon, but I’ll tell you, fill a dealership full of exclusive products with a line of those grills on the street and you will attract all. I saw it firsthand. I have to admit that it was comforting/reassuring to have two ladies in a BMW and a gentlemen in a McLaren inquiring about my purchase!

I agree. I initially was going to purchase an M340i with performance being my priority. The GV70 won out as the better value and all around purchase. I read about all these features the GV70’s comes with at a great price point and what I’ve realized is I hardly use many of them. What I do use every single time I drive is the horsepower, transmission and suspension!!! And in that regard the BMW is a far better/more enjoyably machine. That 6cy turbo of theirs is top notch.

The Genesis is good enough and better than most to enjoy spirited city driving, and I’m enjoying it plenty, but I’m with ya on the performance aspect.

Dunno. We were definitely in the market for a German car. The runner-up was the Macan. It definitely drives sportier, but no match for the refinement and luxuriousness of the GV70.

That is a seriously great review for the GV70 3.5T.

Their summary: It's now their favourite SUV and they would buy the GV70 over a BMW, Audi or Benz any day.
