  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Test drove the GV70 today and dealer is up charging about 6k above the price. I love the GV70 but Imma wait until the hype goes down and get one next year not worth $900-1,200.00 a month car note.
Sucks that they're up charging you, the dealership I went to is sticking to the msrp after talking about the final price, which i'm willing to pay.

You got to pay to play and this chip shortage is not going to be over anytime soon so if your like me and wanted the latest greatest new toy you have to step up. Now that does not mean paying over sticker. That's BS. I got way more for my trade in than I would have a year ago so I figure for my lease of the GV70 it all came out in the wash. In 3 years things will be very different in our vehicle world so I wanted to treat myself one last time to a high performance ICE and have some fun before it's over. YMMV.

Still no reviews and I've had mine for 5 days. I should do one and post it so I can get free money like all the others in technology land
Agree, this is very strange. Before launching an new car, automakers (especially luxury makes) almost always schedule an embargoed press event that brings members of the automotive press to a location, brief them thoroughly on the new vehicle and then give them a chance to test drive the cars. That then produces a flood of articles and video reviews of the new vehicle that hit right around (or slightly before) the time the vehicle ships to dealerships.

Don't know why Genesis chose to do this launch in relative anonymity.

TBickel - I have a very similar thought process as you - cars will be markedly different in 4-5 years, so anything purchased now is either a last hurrah for ICE or a bridge (I guess either way it's a bridge). ICE will live on in maintenance mode for quite awhile, but for anyone considering the GV70, I don't see purchase of an ICE after this one.

Sounds like I'm also in a similar, but different (if that makes any sense) spot in that I'm nearing retirement, the car market is rapidly changing and feel like I need to take this opportunity, but also have an 8yo to consider (played around for a looong time in life).

It's just the "pay" part I'm having a hard time digesting given I can get very nice badge cars for less. Ultimately, I think I'll pull the trigger here, just working it through my system... Thanks for a comment regarding a higher-value trade in this market - while it would have been nice to get those $, it really does just end up washing out. All the dealers in my area are at least sticking to MSRP.

Keep up the posts - really enjoying hearing how it performs and your experience.

Regarding the used car market mark up its pretty crazy as I too can confirm. The dealer I spoke to yesterday told me to go on CarMax even if you are in a Lease and see what they will offer you. And sure enough they offered me almost 4k more than my buyout would be. It will be a hassle to go to CarMax, sell the car then go to my dealer and buy the gv70, but for the extra cash its likely worth it. Is it a wash?? I suppose, not sure I would get a full 4K off MSRP come "normal" times and also doubtful I would get any positive equity in my lease either. So good with the bad I suppose.

CarMax selling process is ridiculously simple, will take you 30-45 minutes. Also try Carvana, they will likely offer you more.

Like you, my dealer is also offering me a lower trade in value on my current vehicle, but Carvana is offering $5K more and Carmax $3K more than the dealership. I also agree that it will be a hassle to trade in the old vehicle at one place then buy the GV70 elsewhere, however the TIV difference warrants that hassle. Also I understand you are in a lease so some difference there but my point is still relative.

Interesting. Carvana offered me $1k less than my local dealer (with tax advantage), and was nearly $4k less than CarMax...

Even my "finance" person ( who for a change was great and did not tie me up for hours) said leasing is the way to go on this vehicle due to market conditions and Genesis not yet being a household name. I usually purchase cars I plan on keeping ( 2011 Tundra had for 9 years) but lease something like this. No it's not cheap but even after 5 days of ownership I have to say the value is there. Alex on Auto's just purchased a new Dodge Durango SRT and paid over 65k. Different vehicle but still. The interior of this rig makes that look cheap.

BTW you can run regular gas in this rig. Less performance of course but it is an option. Premium is only recommended.

I went to the dealer with a Carvana quote and a quote from the local Honda dealer for my 2019 Ridgeline and told them I would only move forward if they matched those offers. They did not hesitate as it only had 15k miles and they had it off their lot in an hour. I got more than I paid for the Ridgeline 2 years ago. These are "unprecedented times".

This thread is regarding GV70 Reviews.

There are other threads/forums where you can discuss selling used cars.

Give your Genesis dealer a chance to match the CarMax/Carvana offer. They might well do so (less any sales tax savings on dealer trade.)

Great review. This thing is going to sell. I love my red interior.

I love that he's almost redlining this thing. Not recommended during break in.

Agree. Time for Savageese to do one.

^ SG seems to get access later than AoA, Redline and the others.

Really like the Throttle House guys, Everyday Driver and Motoman.

These guys should have more subscribers, and not that annoying/clueless Doug.

Pound for pound, the Canadians may have the better YTers.

I can't get my head around Everyman driver. He usually just reads the marketing sheet and often knows very little about the car he is reviewing. Alex on Auto's and Redline are probably top dog. There are some good Canadian reviewers but its Canada and everything is different there. What a great job though. Wish I had thought about it years ago.
