If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Thanks. I may have asked that badly though, was reading on my phone and typing is a pain.

I have an aftermarket remote starter in my current vehicle, they gave us a choice of using the car's factory fob, or of getting a new dedicated fob. We went with the latter (chose 1-way not 2-way to keep the cost down). The main reason was that the range for starting with the factory fob would be the same as for locking/unlocking, which intuitively is much shorter than needed for remote start. When we were looking at new cars a couple of years ago, Subaru mentioned StarLink includes remote start using the app (among many other features) and included 3 years free, then paid subscription. I scoffed at paying but then realized that it would take several years of paid subscription after 3 years (I forget the cost) to cover the cost of an installed remote starter.

For Genesis, I guess that's "Genesis Connected Services" which they mention on the Canadian site at Genesis Connected Services - Mobile Remote Application | Genesis Canada (I've seen some discussions from 2019 of Subaru not actually delivering, as they were waiting for government approval and/or signing a deal with a cell carrier, but surely they've solved those). I don't need to start my car from the far side of the world, but I do want to do it from a longer distance than a lock/unlock fob allows. Of course I want to be really close for Smart Parking and would probably use the fob even if the app allowed it (physical buttons and all that). :) In Canada RSPA shows up on the top 2.5T Prestige and the top 3.5TT Sport Plus. Reviewers dismiss it as a party trick, but it's one of the features that drove us to Prestige from the trim below, and it would be a compelling feature if we were to get a Hyundai instead.
I’m not sure what trim level it starts on in the US but I have it on a 2.5 Advance. Love this feature as I have quite a walk to my car at work.

Does this mean the GV70 has an always-on cellular connection? Does that mean it has to have its own phone number?

The feature is registered through your Genesis select service which I believe is satellite based through Blue Link. But, I'm guessing here; someone else can probably explain it better.

I'm going to guess that it's mobile-phone based and not satellite technology. So yes it would have a phone number assigned, but not capable of making calls. Similar to a data plan on a tablet, they assign a phone number that doesn't have voice activated.

This page has some articles and videos about Genesis Connected Services Connected Services | Genesis Resources | MyGenesis

Also, the blurb about Genesis Connected Services on the main page at Genesis Motors Canada - We Come To You. (this is Genesis.ca but I assume the same in US) has a footnote #5 (also ** but I can't find it), which says [my bold]:

[5] Genesis Connected Services includes 5 years of service without charge. Genesis Connected Services is available for new vehicle purchases and leases subject to the Genesis Connected Services subscription terms and conditions. Only use Genesis Connected Services and corresponding devices when safe to do so. Cellular and GPS coverage is required. Features, specifications, and fees may vary by model and are subject to change. Some limitations apply. For more on details and limitations, please refer to the Genesis Connected Services Agreement – Terms and Conditions or your authorized Genesis distributor.

Here is another amateur review for the GV70 ( sport advance I think) These are almost painful to watch they are so bad. I think he say's he hates the wheel package 10 times. Anything for some "click's" and don't forget to hit that "subscribe button". So lame.

Genesis if your reading this ... please send both the 3.5 and 2.5 versions of this vehicle which has been out now for months to the professional auto journalists in the US. And fire the head of the marketing department while you're at it.

Completely agree with the rims on the Sport Advanced as well as the Sport Prestige. Don’t know what Genesis was thinking, otherwise an almost perfect car.

So I went and finally test drove the 2.5T. It was the prestige in Canada. The power seemed adequate to me. However, the car felt less controllable. I am not sure why I felt like this. The 3.5T didn't feel this way to me. Anyone else felt this? Or just me having a bad day?

Also saw the burgundy in person...god...that colour is amazing indoors.

See..? Car and Driver still does not have a test vehicle for real data...

The most efficient GV70 model, according to the EPA, is the one with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine which earned ratings of 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The twin-turbo V-6 earned ratings of 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Once we have a GV70 into our office for testing, we'll see how it does over our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route. For more information about the GV70's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

How is this even possible?! Well, can’t forget they built nice products only to try to figure out the dealership mess at some point after the fact.

I really don't get it. I understand that we are in the midst of an upside down world and car market but all the other vehicles that have come out in the last few months got to the automotive press in most cases BEFORE they hit dealerships. Or at least close to when they were available to the public. This is precedent setting.

The only reason I keep harping on it is because as we read posts here in this forum ,people are clearly looking for more information especially comparing the 2.5 to the 3.5 and it just is not out there even though the cars are. And I don't believe it's because there are no cars. They take a few and have them shipped between journalists. My dealership here in Phoenix has sold close to a hundred in the last 3 months.

If they’re selling so well in Phoenix then my supposition would be that Hyundai Corp. want to avoid the Telluride effect. They don’t seem to be selling that well in the southeast, which doesn’t completely surprise me, either, from the standpoint that people with money in my area seem very attached to existing status brands like BMW, Mercedes, and especially Porsche, or to American status symbols such as Fords and Caddys.

Bingo!

Alex on Auto's ( top tier reviewer her in the states) is already doing a full review of the new Infinity QX60 and it's nowhere near dealerships. I think these guys are ticked at Genesis for making them look bad by not having it way sooner. Maybe they will just pass on reviewing it.

More like Genesis are not interested in paying their ‘review fee’.

If they did review it then those reviews were filmed months ago. At this point they would just be waiting until the embargo date to post the videos online.

I find it funny how this a complete reversal of the G70 release- that car had full driving reviews out almost a year before it hit dealerships. But the reason it hit dealerships so late was because of the Genesis dealership divorce fiasco with Hyundai.

I wanted to give a brief honest review of my 2-week old GV70 build quality. I have the 3.5T Sport Prestige GV70 and I'm loving it. I've owned many brands in the past, most relatable for comparison, Audi, Lexus, and MB. I can say first hand that the build quality and attention to detail is at the level and surpasses both brands.

I work on my own cars and have experience taking apart interiors for improved sound deadening and sound system isolation. I've done so to every car I've owned. Just finished added sound deadening to my GV70 and I have to say that the build quality in the GV70 is the best I've seen. The deadening within the door panels, the way the wiring and switches were neatly concealed and wrapped in felt, and the overall layout of the interior panels was superb. I barely added any extra material of my own, which says a lot! I know most people won't understand but it means a lot to me when a brand/vehicle takes the time to properly engineer and take everything into account. Especially the things you can't see like behind interior panels. It's easy to make the surface materials excellent, but it's another to actually build a solid vehicle from the ground up.

This is something I've always noticed with german brands. The vehicle will look beautiful on the surface but if you ever have the chance or reason to look behind the surface, for instance removing interior panels, you'll see otherwise. Cheap plastic, wires not neatly arranged or wrapped, barely any sound deadening, zero vibration absorbing materials which causes rattles not only from the engine but also the sound system. One of the biggest reasons people hear rattles are from the robust/premium sound systems car brands are shoving into vehicles without the proper deadening or isolation. Yes, these systems are great and have huge potential but fall flat when they do nothing but cause rattles and are over powered for the area they reside in. Again, I am a stickler for things like this as you can tell, so I don't expect people to fully understand.

In a nutshell, this is the first premium branded vehicle I've owned where I was not let down by the "actual" build quality. I am very experienced with seeing vehicles for what they are and I am blown away by the GV70. If anyone is considering this vehicle against a Audi Q5, BMW X3, MB GLC, Lexus RX, etc., do yourself a solid and test drive one. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. All I can say is that I highly recommend the GV70 over the competition and am extremely happy with my decision.

P.s. Some may call me crazy for this rant, keep those comments to yourself. I love cars and get excited about the little things that most take for granted. I figured some of you may love to hear this so I shared! Also not sure if this is the proper location for this post so let me know.

Hey, I like your thinking, attention to detail, and perspective. It's the "paint the back of the fence" philosophy that sometimes gets attributed to Steve Jobs, whereby the inside of a product should be just as beautiful and well-engineered as the outside.

This is my feeling as well. Before deciding on the GV70, we carefully considered the Audi, GLC, X3, and Macan. I agree the build quality is superior to these.

I've always heard Porsches are built relatively well but I do not have first hand experience with that like I do with the others. Plus the GV70 looks similar to the Macan in my opinion haha. A family member has a 2020 Audi Q5 and it does not even compare in quality. The closest in build quality that I know of is Lexus, but everyone knows that already. Hence why Genesis is modeling Lexus's strategy the best they can and I think they are succeeding in doing so.

I agree the build quality and attention to detail are excellent with the GV70. That said, the driving dynamics of the X3 M40i were superior enough to tilt the scale in the BMW's favor in my decision making process. The GV70 is a compelling product though for sure.
