I wanted to give a brief honest review of my 2-week old GV70 build quality. I have the 3.5T Sport Prestige GV70 and I'm loving it. I've owned many brands in the past, most relatable for comparison, Audi, Lexus, and MB. I can say first hand that the build quality and attention to detail is at the level and surpasses both brands.
I work on my own cars and have experience taking apart interiors for improved sound deadening and sound system isolation. I've done so to every car I've owned. Just finished added sound deadening to my GV70 and I have to say that the build quality in the GV70 is the best I've seen. The deadening within the door panels, the way the wiring and switches were neatly concealed and wrapped in felt, and the overall layout of the interior panels was superb. I barely added any extra material of my own, which says a lot! I know most people won't understand but it means a lot to me when a brand/vehicle takes the time to properly engineer and take everything into account. Especially the things you can't see like behind interior panels. It's easy to make the surface materials excellent, but it's another to actually build a solid vehicle from the ground up.
This is something I've always noticed with german brands. The vehicle will look beautiful on the surface but if you ever have the chance or reason to look behind the surface, for instance removing interior panels, you'll see otherwise. Cheap plastic, wires not neatly arranged or wrapped, barely any sound deadening, zero vibration absorbing materials which causes rattles not only from the engine but also the sound system. One of the biggest reasons people hear rattles are from the robust/premium sound systems car brands are shoving into vehicles without the proper deadening or isolation. Yes, these systems are great and have huge potential but fall flat when they do nothing but cause rattles and are over powered for the area they reside in. Again, I am a stickler for things like this as you can tell, so I don't expect people to fully understand.
In a nutshell, this is the first premium branded vehicle I've owned where I was not let down by the "actual" build quality. I am very experienced with seeing vehicles for what they are and I am blown away by the GV70. If anyone is considering this vehicle against a Audi Q5, BMW X3, MB GLC, Lexus RX, etc., do yourself a solid and test drive one. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. All I can say is that I highly recommend the GV70 over the competition and am extremely happy with my decision.
P.s. Some may call me crazy for this rant, keep those comments to yourself. I love cars and get excited about the little things that most take for granted. I figured some of you may love to hear this so I shared! Also not sure if this is the proper location for this post so let me know.
