  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Lighting

Suggestion to Korean Auto Imports guys - summarize GS300Ricks info on your site with relevant parts. Either credit GS300Rick or offer him royalties :)

Thanks guys, glad I could help.

MattP, those lights look good. can you post pics when you install the wedge bulbs?

crepen- royalties would be nice. But seriously its good to help some members out with their decisions on what lighting to go with. I think these areas were in need of modifying as I think the OEM lighting was just inadequate compared to the rest of the interior lighting

On the trunk lights I had to "modify" the contacts to accept the larger 37mm bulb. [...] The OEM is a 30mm I believe.

Is 30mm the stock socket size just for the trunk bulbs or is it the same for all the other festoon bulbs (license plate, glove box) as well?

I didnt measure but they all seem to be about 30mm. You can get the 37mm bulb in there just fine, the 39mm bulb is more difficult and I had to bend the contacts a bit. 44mm would be just too big.

Thank you, it's much appreciated!

Hey guys! Don't forget, http://www.diodedynamics.com is a sponsor of this site, and we'll be offering some great deals on high-quality LEDs very soon! :)

I know we would all give you more business if your vehicle based search had more than just Tiburon listed.

WHEN you get the angel eyes for the Genesis, I'll likely buy.

Sure thing! I just updated it actually. I need to get festoon bulbs in stock for you guys, but I think the 194 1-watt LED bulbs will work well as courtesy lights. AND my prices are better than anywhere else. :)

Looking at the festoon pics--- they look good. As BayWayRic says, they may require bending the contacts, but that's not too big of an issue.

BTW- the wedge bulbs that eminate light in a tight direction (like a spot light would) like you're showing in another thread, do not necessarily work well under the doors and in the foot wells. I purchased about 5 different types when I was experimenting. While the unidirectional wedge bulbs are guaranteed to be very bright, there are 2 issues. (1) the direction of the light is not always the correct direction. Much of the light is lost within the bulb holder (2) the light that gets out in splayed in a narrow 'spot' area. It really needs to be flooded on the ground and on the floorboard. After trying about 5 different types that work in the wedge connector, I settled on the Pilot unit----

This shows using the Pilot LED panel with the festoon adapter, but there is also a wedge adapter (not shown) that I used. As you can see, the LED panel has 8 LED elements and the lenses help to 'splay' the light.

IF Diode Dynamics can offer something like this to the Genesis Owners... it will sell.

What are the exact dimensions of that board in mmxmm? I stock two different types right now, and have festoon adapters just like that one. Maybe one will fit. Thanks for your help! :)

Paul

Oh and actually those 1W ones are unidirectional, but you may be right, we'll have to see.

for the courtesy lights I found a site that offers many options as far as the high power LEDs and it's called VLEDS. When I get them in I will post pics of the results.

I might be getting a little too finicky, but has anyone looked into replacing the red anti-theft indicator light in the dash with something blue?

A friend just got a new 2008 G35, and one thing I love about the Genesis is the sophisticated, cool, calm and restrained blue LED lighting. The G35 dash and console look like a pinball machine by comparison.

As a result, I wish to eliminate all non-blue lights wherever possible!!

that is a very good idea crepen, although I think getting to it will be the challenge. If its anything like the anti theft light on my GS you have to get at it from inside the dash, which is a huge PITA

Shouldn't be too bad if the area is accessible, which Hyundai usually does make pretty easy. Then it's just a matter, probably, of soldering in a different LED.

Anyone do the vanity mirror bulbs?

Diode Dynamics;

Once you get all your shipments in have you thought about putting a "Genesis Package" together? Something like: 1ea glove box, 2ea front floor, 4ea door bottom, 2ea trunk, 2ea license plate. All in matching bright white. Just a thought!

Anyone do the vanity mirror bulbs?

I looked at doing that. But the color temperature of the existing incandescent bulbs is closer to night lighting that you will find at parties, restaurants, etc. My wife likes to see what her makeup looks like in the lighting where she'll be. The LEDs are closer to the blue-white lighting from the sun so that would only be helpful for a daytime function. And hey... lighting for daytime already exists! They call it the SUN:p

BTW- I LOVE the fact that the vanity bulbs don't blare you in the face. Great design.

Hey GS300rich: Do you know of any way to (I guess the word would be disconnect) the daytime running light so it won't turn on when you turn on the HID lights? I just want the HID lights to turn on not both at the same time.

If you know, or if anone know, please share! Thank you.
