Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

I've been having tons of problems with the massive Korean-American community in Los Angeles - fortunately, South Korea is a much better place.

For some reason, Korean start to have a rude behavior when they start living in the USA. I've noticed too that Koreans in Korea are so much nicer than the Korean-Americans. It's weird.

1. My street is not on the NAV map. It should have been included because it was on Mapquest in 2007.

Check Google maps and some others. If it is missing on some of them, then go to this website to request a correction:

My Genesis replaced a 2006 Infiniti M35 (which I loved). I had leased it for 36 months and wanted something new and different. I love my Genesis so far (2 days).

The Korean-American community is a much different place than South Korea. However, I do not wish to go into the specifics. I don't want to send sparks flying, as many of the differences are political and religious.

The only thing I will say is that a large Korean enclave stateside, such as Los Angeles's massive Koreatown, is a good approximation of South Korea of the 1970s. Today's South Korea, between its industrial power, its well-educated workforce, its technologies, its new democracy, and its Internet savviness, is a completely different place.

I do know what I am talking about - I am half-Korean (and speak the language at near native fluency), spent much of my childhood in Seoul, and just spent three months again in Seoul (which really helped with the cultural understanding).

Back to a more automotive note, yes, my avatar is Hyundai's first in-house model, the Pony. When I lived in Seoul, half of all cars around were Ponys - including my family car. My new Genesis is the first Hyundai in my immediate family since the Pony was sold - a gap of over 20 years (or as the Koreans would say, two changes in the rivers and the mountains). The Pony was the Genesis of its day, in many ways; both models are rear drive, both represented a huge step forward for Hyundai, and both were manufactured in Ulsan.

I replaced a 2006 Hyundai Azera Limited with Ultimate pkg. I have had 3 Elantra's, 2 Sonata's and a Santa Fe also. I always had drove american made products before the year 2000. I was in awe of the reliability and trouble free performance of all the above Hyundai's mentioned. Prior to my Hyundai experiance I was use to many visits to the shop. After some major repairs I decided to go with Hyundai mainly because of their warranty. I figured if all cars have problems then I want the car company to take care of all parts and labor for repairs and to do it without the purchase of an additional warranty. The only time I had warranty work done in all these years is for a tail light LED lamp assy. replacement for my 2006 Azera and also to have some insulation under the hood of my 2000 elantra re-fastened after coming loose.

Compare that to I could write a book of experiances about my cars trips to the shop prior to owning Hyundai. I'm not saying that the Genesis is perfect but then what car is?
What I am saying is that Hyundai continues to keep me as a repeat customer based on great overall product performace and reliability.

I bought my Genesis Dec 5th and it is replacing my 04 Sonata. I am keeping my Sonata as a second car.

IT's replacing a 2000 Black BMW 740iL (which I love). I was tempted to purchase a 5 Series, but who wants to pay $55K for the pleasure in this economy.

I'm hoping the Hyundai lives up to my aspirations for it

Traded in a 2001.5 Volkswagen Passat Wagon (1.8T, Auto, GLS) with 89,000 miles.

Picked up V8 with Tech yesterday at Lenstoler.com. Platinum Metallic with Black interior. 27 Month lease.

Shopped:
Fairfax, Manassas, Alexandria, Easterns (Leesburg), S&S in Towson MD, Len Stoler (Owen Mills MD) was easy to work with - closed and out the door in just over an hour... PAINLESS....


My first Hyundai and my last VW (owned 2 rabbits diesel, 1 Jetta Diesel, 2 Passats and still have a lease on a 2008 EOS 2.0T)... so this was a major coup d'état for Hyundai.


First impressions - ride is "jittery" on crappy roads (like downtown Baltimore on Eastern Ave) but smooth as silk on the Hwy. (like 95 South of Baltimore headed to 495) I got 25.5 MPG on the highway driving 60 to 80 MPH from Baltimore to Fairfax.. that was surprise... the stereo (HD Radio) is awesome - Satellite XM is good too but you can tell that the signal is compressed - and it sounds like the old FM when compared to HD Radio and CD / DVD. Bluetooth to 8830 Blackberry works well. Haven't tested my iPod yet.

Things I would improve:

1. Bi Xenon Headlights verse Halogen High beams.
2. passenger seat with AC
3. power folding mirrors
4. work on the suspension alittle bit more - it's good but could be really good. (if feels like the suspension was designed for a heavier car and rebound is much more pronounced)
5. more storage space in the passenger cabin
6. Get rid of the Ashtray - make it a sunglass holder.
7. AC Power outlet in center console (back seat area)
8. Paddle shifters on a sport model
9. Get rid of the green lights on the dash that show rear Light status.
10. Use Direct Injection to improve the gas mileage and a seven speed tranny.

do this all in 27 months so when i trade in this lease I can get an Uber-Genesis! You have an opportunity to win a dedicated following - let's see how my 27 month test drive goes... It was nice filling up with regular gas today verses Super Unleaded that all my VW's required (except the diesels). In fact when I did my cost analysis for fuel costs between a 4 banger getting 21 MPG (Using Super Unleaded) and a 8 banger getting 19 MPG (using regular) - my actual cost per Mile driven dropped alittle bit... which was a surprise...

My 4.6 Genesis replaced a 2001 E320 Mercedes that we bought new and put 114k miles on it without any major problems. The car had a good ride and great fuel economy but $50k is tough to fork out these days and I have been very impressed with my 2007 Sante Fe Limited. My wife liked the styling so I offered to buy her a new 4.6 or she could pay for a new MB or BMW. She accepted my offer.

Repaced my 04 Acura tl with a 4.6 Genesis tech. Am really enjoying the added space, the rear wheel drive dynamics and the endless power band from the V8.

My Genesis 4.6 has replaced my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX STI that went to my wife as a Xmas present! It only had 29K miles and lots and lots of "Subaru Bucks".

Subaru Impreza WRX or WRX STi? 2002 had the bugeye STi model only in Japan and other countries. (I know because it's my favorite STi)

US Spec STi's were not sold here in USA till 2004 ~
